Chapter 70 070
Chapter 70 070
Rayna
Shock rooted me in place..Not just because Zero had finally walked into the room like a man instead of a shadow, but because he hadn’t gone to his place. He hadn’t put distance between us. He hadn’t retreated into silence across the room where I could pretend I was safe from him.
He came to me. He had chosen to come find me, he'd stood directly in front of me, close enough that my knees brushed the fabric of his trousers when I shifted. Close enough that I could see the faint tension along his jaw, the careful control in the way his shoulders were held just a little too rigid.
My breath caught, and for a heartbeat, or what seemed like more than it was, neither of us moved.
The world narrowed until there was only him and the quiet hum of the room, the air thick and expectant, like it was holding its breath along with me. My pulse thundered so loudly I was sure he could hear it.
I tried to focus on anything else that wasn't zero, but it was impossible at this point. I Pulled my eyes from where they'd met his face just s couple of seconds ago, before forcing them on something else.
Ever since the first night I stepped my feet in here, I wasn't sure I'd taken time to really appreciate the beauty of this place, but now I was.
My gaze skimmed over the bed, the clock, the bedside table, and even the mirrors, but nothing, absolutely nothing could shake off the feeling of his gaze boring holes into my side. After minutes of telling myself that this was useless, I gave up, just to be met with another surprise.
Like that wasn't already traumatic and emotionally nerve wracking, our eyes locked.
Something passed between us then, something raw and unguarded that neither of us was willing to name yet , but I wasn't complaining. His gaze wasn’t cold tonight, and it wasn’t distant either. It was dark, with a hint of something that made my stomach churn. His eyes were searching, and frighteningly intent, like he was standing at the edge of a decision he didn’t trust himself to make.
Something tugged at the back of my mind then. If he wasn't going to break the silence, then I would. What the hell could go wrong, right?
“What are you doing?” I asked softly. I almost didn't recognize my own voice. It was hoarse and dry, like I hadn't used it in ages.
The words barely made it past my lips, fragile and uncertain. I hadn’t meant them to sound like a plea, but they did anyway.
“Zero, I'm talking to you.” I let out again. I knew for a fact that he'd heard me, but I decided to give him the benefit of doubt. “I know you can hear me, so what are you doing? Why are you here? Why are you so close to me?”
Zero didn’t answer, he never did. But instead, he moved. It was just a fraction at first. Nothing short of a subtle shift of his weight, but it was something. And in the same breathe, he took another step, slow and deliberate, until the space between us disappeared entirely. My breath hitched as his presence closed in around me, overwhelming in its quiet intensity.
I froze.
His head dipped slightly, just enough that I felt it, his breath brushing the shell of my ear.
“Zero…..” his name slid past my lips in something that could easily pass as a groan and a moan all wrapped into one. “what are you…”
I never got to finish, not with his breath skimming over me. It was warm, controlled and devastating all at once, and just what I needed to make my thighs clench. I'd always known my pussy tended to misbehave around him, but tonight was entirely on another different level.
Wherever muscles that were in charge of my pussy clenching and what not, seemed to be working overtime. I tried to fight it, I really did, but nothing was helping. Even zero's cologne was wafting into my nostrils and dealing with me from all angles.
Zero still didn't answer or react, so I did it for him in my head. I imagined him enjoying that he had this effect on me. That he could shut me up just by standing beside me with his breath fanning the shell of my ears. No one had done this and gotten this reaction from me before, and if this piece of information were to ever get out, then I was cooked.
It wasn’t a touch, not really, but it might as well have been. The sensation shot straight through me, lighting every nerve on fire. My body betrayed me instantly, a tremor rippling through me that I couldn’t hide no matter how hard I tried.
Fear and desire collided violently in my chest.
I was scared, because now, and in this moment, there was no denying the moment.
I wanted him, but at the same time, I was scared of the man he really was behind his facade of staying quiet, but that wasn't all. Both truths existed at once, tangled and impossible to separate.
My fingers curled into the fabric of the chaise beneath me, grounding myself as my heart raced out of control. I didn’t know what he was doing. I didn’t know what he was about to do. And that uncertainty, it thrilled me and terrified me in equal measure.
He stayed there, close enough that I could feel the heat of him, silent but powerful, like a warning whispered without words.
I didn’t move. I didn’t breathe, and somewhere deep down, I knew…
Whatever happened next would change everything.
The million dollar question that bordered on my lips though, were was I ready for what was coming? If Zero were to somehow cross this line that I'd brought on myself, what was going to happen, and was I going to be able to live with it?
