Chapter 51: Boundaries

Lucas POV

I sat on the couch, with a glass of whiskey on the table, I poured a little in a glass cup,  I was thinking about Mrs. Annabelle. I had given her my personal card to call but she didn't. “Does this mean she's not interested in me?" I muttered.

It was as if I had thought about her at the right time. My phone rang, and it was a call from her.

I smiled. “Oh wow, she actually did call.”

I hesitated before picking up the call.

“Hello." I heard Annabelle speaking.

I thought she was claiming though. I need to calm down, maybe she just called to turn me down.

I Didn't know how I was going to take that. It's either she accepts me then we keep it a secret from Amelia or she rejects me then ends up telling Amelia about all I said to her.

“I had no idea you were actually going to call." I finally said.

With the look of everything, I couldn't hear or see what she was doing at the other end of the call.

“I didn't plan to call, so I came to a conclusion, that you were drunk when you said all of those things, you are obviously joking.” She admitted.

“You think I was joking?" I said, before getting out a bitter laugh. “I meant all those things, and you know I wasn't drunk."

There was silence for a while. No one  uttered the word.

“I must say, you crossed the line.” She muttered. “There's no points in all of those stores to me when you love my daughter? With what you have done I don't think you ever loved her."

" I know I did Cross the line, but not telling you that was driving me insane, I had no choice.” I spat, with a low voice.

“Can you just stop this? You really don't have to act like this is a romantic discussion. You have no idea what you are doing." Her voice cracked.

My heart was pounding with my eyes closed. " You've been Amelia mother, does not stop me from loving you. I really can't help the way I feel right now. I just want you all to myself.”

“Well, in my opinion you need to try harder, because this is not only just messy but so dangerous. I don't know what's my daughter would think of me if she finds out." She said, sounding furious.

" That's the main reason we won't let her find out.” I cut in. “The only way she can find out is if you tell her."

"Secrets like this don't stay buried she will obviously find out one day, my daughter notices things so well, I won't be surprised if she finds out on time. I have hurt her a lot.”

"Stop acting like you care about him, we both know you don't care about your daughter.” I spat.

“You don't really have to decide anything now I just need you to tell me the truth right now, what do you feel? You don't feel anything?"

Miss Annabelle didn't answer.

“Hello….” My throat tightened.

“I guess I shouldn't have called, I have to go now.” She said, sounding distance all of a sudden.

“Come on, hold on—”

But the line went dead, the silence in my room was louder than anything I was expecting her to say, staring at my phone, I was stunned.

Authors POV

Just then, Annabelle's husband came in.

“Hey sweetheart, who are you talking to?" He asked.

"I don't see how that is any of your business.” She said.

Annabelle's husband still there while is ice flicked between her and the  phone on your hand. “You were obviously talking to someone, who is that?"

"No one.” She said quickly. It could feel a heart racing.

“I could tell you were arguing with someone on the phone."

But  Mrs. Annabelle tilted her head. "I told you to mind your business, it wasn't with no fucking body.” she didn't stood up abruptly.

Husband could sense suspicion, but immediately they know what it was all about. Mrs. Annabelle had always talk to him rudely, that was one of the reason you have left her.

“Who is Lucas? And why were you both talking about Amelia in the call? I don't know whatever you're doing but if you do any more thing to hurt my daughter I won't take it likely with you."

"What? Have you been eavesdropping in my calls? You are unbelievable.”

Mrs. Annabelle tries to compose herself. “I still see you as nothing, I hope you didn't forget we are divorced, I only let you come back here because of your illness, you had nowhere to stay, the wife you had gone to marry who you claim loves you abandoned you and you came running back to me. We expected me to welcome you it's an open arms."

“Jeez, you just so unbelievable. I really can't imagine I'm leaving in the same roof with you.” He spat.

“If you add some other place to stay you can go, I'm not forcing you to stay here, I was just trying to help you. The got no single money to even buy an apartment right now.”

Just then, there was silence, they both looked at each other in confusion.

“You can leave." She breathed, “go be with you damn wife." She said, backing up a step.

"Are you sending me out of your house?” He asked.

“I can see you lost your damn mind! She left me, but she's better than you."

Just then the doorbell rang, the both of them said as each other wondering who was going to open the door.

"Are you expecting someone?” Mrs  Annabelle asked.

"I should be asking you that? I really don't think I'm going to invite anyone over, to come and see me here.”

Mrs. Annabelle sighed. “Nonsense."

She walked towards the door, to her surprise, it was Agnes, her husband's Wife.

“What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to take my husband back home.”

Annabelle laughed out loud. “Really? Are you talking about the same man you abandoned, you left in the hospital, because he was suffering from cancer, you both are just unbelievable."

"Who is there?” Jason, her Ex-husband asked.

“Why don't you come and see for yourself." Mrs Annabelle hissed.

Jason struggled to get to the door. He was surprised on seeing Agnes. “What are you doing here?" He asked the same question Annabelle and asked earlier.

“Sweetheart, just take your things, I came to take you out of here. I realized my mistake,  and I'm here to make it up to you.” Agnes said.
