Chapter 47: Weight of Her Silence

Williams POV

While we slept, I thought the only thing a love like this can bring was peace. Thought I was going to be free but I was wrong.

Waking up the next morning, I rolled on the bed, stretching my hand to find Amelia on the bed with my eyes closed but she was nowhere to be found. I quickly opened my eyes, placing my hand on the spot she had laid on the bed, it was cold. I wondered where she had gone.  There was no sound coming from outside the room so I wasn't sure she was somewhere around.

I was worried. “Amelia?" I called. My heart begins to pine against my ribs. " If she had left, she should have at least dropped a note.”

My mind ran wild, while panic set in fire. I wondered if I  had said something wrong last night. Different thoughts were beginning to come in. I stormed through the apartment, while I threw on my jeans.

I heard a sound. Seems like the front door creaked open. I quickly walked towards there then I found Amelia walking in. What was she doing outside? It was still so early in the morning. Her cheeks were srInss6wuth tears and her hair messy. She was putting on my black hoodie. I also found her phone in her hand.

There was something in her expression that cracked me open. She stood there, frozen and shocked.

“What's wrong , Amelia.” I asked, finally.

“My dad called, I wasn't sure if I should pick up but I decided to. I couldn't ignore him anymore." She said with a trembling voice. While her lips curled.

“What about him?" I asked.

"He's back and he's really sick, he has cancer. He said the doctor said he would not  survive it “ she said crying.

I moved closer to her.

“He's dying." She muttered.

I've never heard Amelia say anything about her Father, I was stunned. She has never spoken about him, but one thing I knew for sure was that there was trauma, lots of them she had gone through.

“So tell me, Are you thinking of going to see him?" I asked.

“I'm confused. I don't know which decision to take. He's been happy all this while without me and now he's back because he's sick and he wants me to pity him. He ruined my life, leaving me with my mother. But when he called just now, I heard his voice so clearly. It was just as if I was six again and I'm begging him to stay.”

I held her face in my hand as I walked closer to her. “You don't owe a second of your peace to him. You should know you don't owe him anything.”

“I know." She muttered. “I just need to ask him one thing, I need to go see him, look into his eyes and then ask him why he was so mean to me. Why did he leave me after all the promises he made to me when I was six?  He could have a reason for abandoning me just like this. I took all the weight alone all my life.”

My heart twisted from fear as I looked at her. I was scared that I was going to lose her to the past that I've always been scared of.

The past seems to push her away from me.

I sighed. “Ok then, let's go. I'm coming with you."

" You don't have to.” She said,

" You can talk to your dad while I'm there, you don't have to go alone, you're my woman now, and it's my duty to protect you.’ I said with a firm voice.

She started crying, a son that caught between relief and pain. She hugged me tightly, not wanting to let go.

I knew the storms that were going to come were more,it was just the beginning of it. I was so eager and ready to burn the world down before I let her go through it without me.

I was really in love with her, I only wished this gs like this to stop coming her way.

I held her hand as we walked to sit on the couch.

“You sit here, while I go to the kitchen to prepare dinner." I said.

“I'm coming with you, I wanna help out." She said,

" Nah, I won't let you do that. I want to do it for you. I don't want to stress you, last night was a lot.” I said smiling. I then saw her hugging the pillow tightly like a child, I could see how tired she she was but she was still radiant.

I toasted bread some bread and fried some egg as I got to the kitchen. I moved my hands on autopilot. While I was doing that, my mind was somewhere else, I was just imagining her father's reaction if he sees her. I just hoped it will be the beginning of something healing and not wound.

“Why are you staring at that egg like that?" She asked, behind me.

“I told you to sit back there, I was just thinking." I said.

She then walked closer to me, wrapping her hands around my waist while she presses her cheeks into my neck.

“You know sometimes no matter how we try to be strong we get weak." She muttered.

I had no idea how much I held in. What she said actually hit deep.

I placed my hand on her waist. “I know what you're trying to say but to be sincere, I want to be strong. Strong for you."

I saw how watery her eyes was, while she looked up at me. " You don't have to lose yourself trying to carry me, you know right? I should be your partner, not your burden.”

Gosh, I love her.

“You're not a burden to me Amelia, right now you're the only thing that makes sense to me." I said, kissing her forehead.

I was done preparing the bread and egg. We sat on the couch while we shared bites. We laughed through our tired lips. Just then, I felt the world had losed it's grip on me.

After some time, her phone rang again.

She ignored the call, and u noticed it was her mother calling.

“You should pick that up." I said.

"Nah, she will see me and say whatever she wants when I get home.” She said.

I picked up the phone from the table. “She's with me, we'll be on our way soon." I said, before hanging up the call.
