Chapter 110 | Self-doubt
Chapter 110 | Self-doubt
Kael explained to Caroline that he was a doctor who would examine Dexson, because Dexson had suffered a serious leg injury.
"So your leg is seriously injured?" asked Caroline with a look of regret on her face.
"I'm sorry," he continued in a soft voice, trying to hold back his tears.
"It's not your fault, Caroline. My injury will heal soon, it was purely an accident. After the doctor examines my leg, it will heal within a few days," explained Dexson, gently stroking Caroline's head.
Caroline looked at Dexson with an expression that was difficult to interpret.
Caroline also felt very guilty towards Dexson, because even though she had hurt him, Dexson still didn't blame her.
"Get some rest," Dexson said with a slight smile.
Dexson then signaled to Kael with his eyes, and Kael, who understood, immediately helped Dexson walk to the next room.
"Dexson is having trouble walking," Caroline muttered.
The doctor also left, leaving Caroline alone in the room. Caroline actually wanted to go with them, but Dexson had told her to rest.
"Why did you tell Caroline that I was seriously injured? That could upset her, you idiot!" Dexson grumbled angrily.
"I didn't think about that because you did have a serious injury. Just focus on getting checked out, I'll explain to Caroline so she doesn't worry too much," replied Kael.
"Okay," replied Dexson.
Kael then went back to Caroline's room.
"Why are you here?" asked Caroline, a little nervous.
Caroline wasn't sleeping; she had just been sitting there staring blankly into space. She was surprised when Kael suddenly entered her room. She felt a little scared when Kael came into her room.
"Can I talk to you for a moment? Don't worry, I won't hurt you or do anything stupid. Besides, I already have a very beautiful wife," said Kael with a chuckle.
"Okay. What do you want to talk about?" Caroline asked softly.
Kael decided to sit on the sofa in Caroline's room.
"How are you? Is everything getting better?" Kael asked casually.
"A little better," replied Caroline.
"I hope you get well soon, and don't ever hurt Dexson's sincerity, he loves you very much. What Dexson did to you was wrong, but what man can resist his desires when it comes to the woman he loves? I'm not justifying Dexson's actions; I admit what he did was despicable. But believe me, you are the only woman who made Dexson fall in love so deeply that he couldn't control his own desires," Kael explained.
"You can see Dexson's sincerity. Even when you were hurt, he still cared about your condition," he continued.
"I feel so unworthy of Dexson. He could have found a woman much better than me," Caroline muttered, trying to hold back her tears.
"I don't think Dexson would care about that. Everything that happened to you wasn't because of your own choices; you were just a victim of them. You're still a respectable woman," replied Kael.
Caroline fell silent, trying to reflect on Kael's words.
"If you still doubt Dexson, you can test him to see how strong his feelings for you are," said Kael.
"But most importantly, you need to focus on your recovery first. Dexson intends to take you to Singapore; I hope you don't refuse Dexson's wish. Dexson really hopes you recover and no longer feel the pain you've been feeling all this time," he continued.
Kael then stood up and smiled at Caroline. "Don't worry about Dexson's injury; it won't weaken him." After saying that, Kael decided to leave and told Caroline to rest again.
"Dexson. Are we really meant to be together?" Caroline muttered.
Kael and the doctor had already left Dexson's house. With a slight limp, Dexson then went to Caroline's room.
When he opened the door, he found Caroline sitting on the edge of the bed with a blank stare.
"What are you thinking about, Caroline?" asked Dexson.
Caroline was a little startled, because she didn't realize Dexson had entered her room.
"Are you thinking of a way to leave me? Don't even think about leaving, Caroline." Dexson said with a sad expression as he held Caroline's hands.
"No, Dexson." Caroline replied as she gently stroked Dexson's hands.
"Dexson, how are you feeling? Is your leg much better?" she continued as she looked at Dexson.
"Don't worry, my injury isn't serious," Dexson replied.
"Thank God," Caroline whispered.
"Why were you daydreaming earlier? What were you actually thinking about?" Dexson asked.
"I was just doubting myself a little. Will I really recover, and succeed in overcoming my fears?" Caroline replied without looking at Dexson.
"Honey, you don't need to worry. We can try going to Singapore. I will definitely accompany you," said Dexson.
"I believe you are a strong woman, and you can recover. We will definitely live happily," he continued with a smile.
Caroline rested her head on Dexson's shoulder, her eyes glistening. "You know, I've had this illness since I was a child. I even almost killed my mother and my brother because of this damn disease. It's so hard to find the happiness I want."
Dexson gently rubbed Caroline's back so that she wouldn't drown in sadness.
"I know this is very difficult for you, but you mustn't give up. Give me one chance to make you feel that happiness, Caroline," Dexson said firmly.
"If I still don't get better after we seek treatment in Singapore, will you still love me and accept me?" Caroline asked, staring intently at Dexson.
"Of course, dear, I will always be with you. No matter what happens, I will always want to be with you," Dexson replied with a smile.
Caroline smiled slightly, then hugged Dexson tightly. "Thank you, Dexson."
"I'll prove to you that these aren't just empty words from me. You are the only woman who has ever made me fall in love, Caroline. So, no matter what happens, I still want to be with you. We will be a happy family," said Dexson, hugging Caroline even tighter.
"Dexson, if I lose control because of this damn disease. I won't recognize myself, or even you. I could hurt you at any time, don't you mind? You could find a much better woman," said Caroline, holding back her tears.
"No! I just want to be with you. I don't care about anything else," replied Dexson firmly.
