Chapter 86 Two Power Houses
Chapter Eighty-Five
Nathan slammed a hand in the desk in front of him, his control slipping rapidly, “Aria Beaumont!” He screamed in rage.
Aria remained calm, looking him dead in the eye, “Address me in a threatening manner once more, Director Nathan, and I’ll make sure you’re not in a position to ever try that again.”
There was a sharp intake of breath from the employees around. They glanced at each other, their eyes speaking volumes.
“Did she just threaten to make the Director lose his position?”
“Just how much power does she have?”
“Does she think she can do this because she’s Lucian’s wife? She’s just a country bumpkin either way!”
“Yes, the Director is only looking out for the company. What did she mean by we should drop the crown avenue project?”
“She knows nothing about business’s and leading projects. This is one of the most vied for projects this year and we are the most eligible ones for it.”
The employees were torn between loyalty to Nathan and fear of Aria. They watched to see what the two power houses would do but Nathan and Aria just glared at each other, their eyes making the air between them cackling with tension.
Nathan had always known that Aria was not going to be easily defeated, but he’d always believed that her power lies with Lucian.
However, Lucian wasn’t here now and she dared to still be this bold?
“Could it be that I underestimated her?” He thought to himself in a panic, his eyes darting from side to side in deep thought, “But I made my research and thoroughly investigated her. There was nothing.”
Aria had been a girl who grew up on a pig farm, not to mention the animosity against her from her own Beaumont family. He had assumed she had gained some backbone, because she happened to marry Lucian and found favour in his eyes.
But that favour was giving her a lot of nerve, Nathan thought with gritted teeth.
He knew Lucian and the Chairman had agreed to give Aria the position of the head of marketing team. But they would also be expecting something from her, some spectacular act or commendable improvement in the department.
Nathan was determined to break their expectations, but he had not expected Aria to be so determined.
He had thought she only came to the company to spite him and his wife, and play the wife of the CEO.
Why was she being so serious and actively trying to ruin his plans?
“Could it be…” his eyes narrowed in disbelief as his thoughts went darker, “…she knows everything we intend to do with the Graves Empire?” He looked at Aria, his jaw clenched, “Then I have to be more careful.”
He straightened up, and adjusted his clothes. He took a deep breath and smiled tightly at Aria, “Sister in law…” he started.
“We are at the company, Director Nathan.” Aria retorted sharply, “It’s Team Leader Aria to you.”
Nathan froze for a second, his eyes twitching from uncontrolled rage. The next second he inhaled once more and calmed his nerves.
The employees held their breath once more
“Team Leader Aria, I know this is so sudden for you, being new to the office and all that,” he uttered ,”But it’s not advisable to do things without thinking.”
Aria arched an eyebrow at him, “What?”
“You said we should drop the Crown Avenue project.” Nathan reiterated, his voice rising, “On what grounds should we do that? Your shopping experience?”
There was a murmur of laughter around the room, which died down quickly when Aria gave a cold glance around.
She turned back to Nathan who was looking very smug with the reaction to his little joke.
“Funny now, are we?” Aria asked sarcastically.
“Team Leader Aria, do you know how many months of work went into preparing for this project?” Nathan uttered once more, “We can’t just drop it because you want to go on a power trip. Besides, you have no reason why we should follow your lead.”
His words hung in the air long after he said those words. Aria looked round at the rest of the employees. They had their eyes lowered, but she could see from their demeanor that they agreed with what Nathan had said.
Not only was Aria not fit for the position which she was heading, they also thought she lacked the right credentials or qualifications to be giving her two cents on a project like this.
It was like an insult to the employees who had worked long hours on the project.
They felt they were being mocked now.
Aria rolled her eyes. Fucking idiots.
She learned back in her seat, “You’ve been working on the project for months now, right?” She asked, giving them all a cold look, “So you spent months putting up this rubbish?”
There was a sharp intake of breath as the employees murmured and shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
“Aria, what right do you have to say it’s rubbish?” Nathan asked harshly, forgetting to address her properly in his anger.
He gritted his teeth when Aria gave him a hard look and he corrected himself, “Team Leader Aria, please do not say anything about the project anymore. With your lack of qualifications, you’re just holding us up while looking stupid yourself.”
“I only pointed out inefficient work, Director Nathan,” Aria replied coolly, “Don’t you think you’re the stupid one to spend months on something so futile?”
Nathan was breathing hard now but he could not bring himself to say anything. It was like whatever he said to Aria was going to be thrown back to his face with more savagery, and he could not afford to lose his temper to her this early.
Aria sighed once more, then picked up the reports before her once more, “Take up your reports and make sure you open your eyes clearly to see the loopholes in this goddamn project.”
Nathan scoffed in disbelief and picked up the reports grudgingly, “What loopho…” he started saying but at that money, his eyes widened in alarm as he suddenly saw what Aria was talking about.
