Chapter 57 An Unfilial Daughter

Chapter 57 An Unfilial Daughter
Chapter Fifty-Eight

Aria had been led by Clara through the long hallway to George’s study. Clara practically shoved her through the door, all too eager to get her to talk with her father concerning whatever it was that he wanted to tell her.

“You go meet your father now.” Clara said, smiling a little too brightly, “I need to check up on dinner. Have a nice time.”

The door closed behind her with a sharp click before Aria could even say anything.

She however smiled, and crossed her arms, not bothered about whatever it was Clara was cooking up behind the scenes.

She was well prepared for it.

“Well, are you going to be standing at the door all day?” George asked from where he sat behind his desk.

He had on a pair of spectacles perched on the bridge of his jaw and he looked at her over the rims of it.

His expression was stern and slight irritation furrowed his brows. It was clear that he would rather not be doing what he was doing at the moment; talking to his daughter.

Aria smirked once more, and walked calmly towards the desk, “I’d have thought you’d be so eager to see me,” she uttered, “Seeing as you and stepmother were practically begging me to come to the Beaumont mansion.”

George’s mind went back to the night of the Chairman Graves birthday ceremony, and how the Beaumont family had almost gotten into deep trouble.

George believed everything that had happened that night was all Aria’s fault. If things had escalated even farther, it would have still being Aria’s fault.

“How can she be so unfilial? Trying to bring so much trouble to her family already,” George thought using displeasure, “I never should have given her wings by making her marry into such a wealthy family.”

George forgot that they had actually thrown Aria to the Graves family, believing that she was worthy to be stuck with a disabled husband for life.

They had expected the Graves family to make her life miserable, and was even ready to disown her if she returned to the family with shame.

George had forgotten these was what the family had in mind towards Aria when she’d been brought from the country back to the city.

Now, all he could see was a child who was unfilial and headstrong, all because she was being favored by her in-laws who had made her as powerful as they were.

The thoughts made him clench his fists in anger.

His beloved Selena should have been the one to be basking in such glory.

What bad luck that it all fell on this unfilial child?

“Just say what it is you have to say,” he said to her harshly, his fists still clenched, “Then leave immediately!”

Aria laughed softly, her fingers involuntarily digging into the soft flesh of her arms, “I thought you were the one who had something to tell me. Weren’t you going to give me your blessings for my marriage?”

George’s eyes widened slightly at that statement, “Well…uh…ahem…” he spluttered, “Well…uh…I have nothing much to say…but uh…”

Aria laughed in derision, disgusted by their sheer wickedness. She had known all along that George actually had nothing to say to her.

But since Clara had insisted that they both talked, then whatever this meeting between her father and her was, it was only going to benefit Clara.

What on earth was her bitch stepmother up to now?

Whatever it was, Aria was sure that it was to separate her and Lucian.

But she was not worried about Lucian.

If Clara Beaumont dared to cross Lucian, it would backfire and affect the Beaumont family severely.

Speaking of that, she had to quickly put her issue across to George now that they were alone.

Suddenly, she switched expressions, sighing wistfully with one hand placed over her chest, “We’ve been far away from each other since I was only a child,” she said softly, lowering her eyes and looking regretful, “It must be difficult to try to relate with me now, but I know that you have only good wishes for me in your heart. I accept your blessings for my marriage, Father.”

George was astonished by her change of attitude, but his foolish self saw nothing wrong with it.

He only assumed that Aria had surely reflected on her bad behavior and was now trying to connect with her family.

This thought made him raise his head haughtily, and clear his throat ominously, “Well, there’s no need to mention that you’ve been away from the family since you were a child. That was all your fault for being difficult!” He said with a sickening self righteous air.

Aria’s fists clenched with rage as she listened to him but George was oblivious to this as he continued, “But it’s good you’ve come to your senses now…”

“The reason I asked to see you…” Aria interrupted, sick of seeing George’s stupid mug, “…is to tell you something important.”

George frowned, angry that he’d been interrupted.

Aria arched an eyebrow at him, a calm smile stretching her lips, “It’s about the Beaumont Empire.”

George’s eyes widened at that statement, then they became clouded with wariness, “Why are you asking about the Beaumont Empire?” He asked with a frown, his gaze shifting from hers, “Leg me tell you, better not have any ideas concerning it. You know nothing about managing…”

“I heard the Beaumont Empire is also vying for the MKO construction project,” Aria interrupted once more, making George pause in surprise.

“How do you know about that?” He asked and Aria smiled all the more.

“The Graves family can actually help you with it, Father,” she continued, “And since I’m the Graves family miracle worker, they really attend to my wishes. I can help the Beaumont family get that project. How about that, father?”

George’s mouth hung open in astonishment and pleasant surprise at those words but before he could say another word, an ear splitting scream rent the air.
