Chapter 50 A Scheming Woman!

Chapter 50 A Scheming Woman!
Chapter Fifty

“The Graves family miracle worker?”

The crowd erupted in gasps, murmurs flying everywhere, while Clara staggered backwards in shock. She turned to look at her daughter and husband, her shock mirroring theirs.

The Graves family miracle worker?

What the hell did that even mean?

Madam Graves stepped forward this time with more confidence. She hooked her arm with that of Aria’s free one and smiled shyly at Clara.

“My son, Lucian, regained his health and body back as soon as Aria stepped into the doors of our house,” she announced, her voice loud and clear.

Despite the murmurs of the crowd, she continued, ignoring the Beaumont family’s glare, “She’s actually a blessing to our Graves family, and we are not giving her up for anything,” she gave Clara a sly look, “Thank you so much for letting Aria come to us. We will take her off your hands now, thank you.”

The crowd erupted in a huge applause, whistles and clapping filling the air.

Clara felt like she was going to explode. She was livid. “you!…”

She wanted to yell and pull out Madam Graves hair from the root but she dared not move. She could only sputter about with her face red and her hands clenched tightly against her sides.

She glared at Aria who was giving her a smug smile. Aria was standing between her husband and Mother in law, both arms hooked with theirs.

They were giving her a very adoring look, like they literally loved her and could not breathe without her.

That Lucian especially, who was said to be cold hearted, could not just stop staring at her.

He was completely smitten, with his silly lopsided grin. Aria was basking in their adoring gazes.

She looked content.

Happy.

Gorgeous….just like her mother.

Clara had worked so hard to alter the fate of that bitch’s daughter but it was to no avail.

Aria was now married into the most influential family in all of Crestmont, leaving her own daughter in the mud

“This can’t be happening,” she thought to herself. She was trembling, her eyes red rimmed with fury, “This can’t be happening. I just do something to stop this. I can’t let her be happy. She cannot be happy without my permission.”

As the crowd clapped for heads off, George stepped forward with a hearty laugh. He proceeded to hug Aria so tightly that Lucian had to push him off after a few seconds.

“I’m so sorry, my dear son-in-law!” He said, giving Lucian a big grin, while the couple eyed him coldly, “I was just so happy to see my daughter settling well in the Graves family.”

Clara wanted to roll her eyes so bad, but she knew this was not the time to be antagonistic. She had to gauge the situation and think of what to do.

She was however, disgusted with George’s attitude, however. Did he not see that he was making a full of himself in front of the entire city?

George continued, unaware of the disgusted look that Clara was throwing at him, “She had had such a difficult life since she was younger. We desperately hoped that she’d be able to settle down well here and now, our wish had come through.”

Aria scoffed, a sly smirk on her face, “Didn’t you just throw me under the bus a few minutes earlier?” She asked arching a brow at him, “you were ready to sacrifice me to save yourself from the minister earlier this evening!”

“What!…” George stammered, swallowing hard at the accusations.

He had never thought Aria would talk back to him. This country bumpkin daughter of his had really changed.

She was so much like her mother now.

Fearless, beautiful and with the same intimidating aura.

George swallowed once more, looking around for help. His eyes fell on Clara and he pleaded with her with his eyes to help her.

Clara gritted her teeth for a few seconds before forcing out a smile.

She stepped forward, her hands clasped in front of her in humility, “Aria dear, don’t be so hard on your father,” she said softly, making sure her eyes were lowered, “You know that he was only scared your actions would harm the family. He only said that to the minister because he loved you. He wanted to see what your actions would do to the family. Would you rather have destroyed the family with your actions?”

Aria smiled beautifully, “Didn’t you and Dad throw me out of the Beaumont family?”

“Curse this child!” Clara swore inwardly as she bit her lip to keep her anger down, “It seems like she wants to mock me. I have to bear it if I want my plans to work.”

She immediately fell on her knees in front of Aria, her expression contrite and apologetic, “Oh Aria! I am so sorry. Please forgive your mother and father!”She uttered in a loud voice which was almost broken with sobs, “We really did not mean to say that to you! Please find it in your heart to forgive us!”

She then proceeded to start banging her head on the floor, making everyone alarmed.

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” Madam Graves uttered as she and George quickly stopped Clara from going any further.

Clara shook her head weakly, looking at Aria with teary eyes, “I just need to make her forgive me!”

Aria stared down her nose at her, her eyes cold and her lips turned down in disgust.

She could see right through Clara’s act and she was not buying it one bit. Clara was trying to push her into a tight spot, forcing her to behave like a pious daughter.

One who would still look upon her parents with favour even after they offended her.

If she did not actually help Clara up and forgive her, the crowd would think she was proud, unruly and arrogant all because she was a Graves family daughter in law.

Selena, seeing her mom actually kneel in front of Aria, who was still looking smug, could not take it anymore. She gave an enormous sob and fled from the room.

“Selena!”

Clara tried calling her back, but she weaved her way through the crowd and ran out of the hall.

Clara gritted her teeth in frustration, “Stupid girl,” she muttered to herself, “Always acting weak. Have I not raised her well?”
