Chapter 40 Who Is It?
Chapter Forty
Meanwhile, back at the Graves mansion, Zach successfully managed to help Lucian back to his room.
He was being extremely insufferable, making Lucian feel like an invalid by his extreme care and attention.
“Watch your step there!” He would say affectionately.
“Be careful Lucian, my heart would break if you fall.” He would say a minute later, his eyes wide with pretend alarm.
“Lucian, there’s your room! Just a little more steps and we are there!” He would say, looking overly excited.
“Finally, we are in!” He exclaimed happily as they walked into the room, and went towards the wheelchair sitting by the side of the bed.
Lucian was growing angrier and angrier by the moment, and he felt like kicking Zach’s teeth down his stomach at his antics.
“I swear to God, Zach…” he started, growling in frustration as Zach tried to carry him to the wheelchair in bridal style.
But then their combined weight had them both tumbling to the bed.
They both screamed in horror as they landed on the bed together.
“Zach, what are you doing, you freaking bastard?!” Lucian said as he struggled to sit up on the bed.
Zach had already bolted to the other side of the room, his eyes wide with horror at what had just happened.
“It’s not my fault, you fool!” He yelled back at Lucian from his safe spot, “Why are you so damn heavy?! Hell, you slept for three years! Did all your muscles turn to fat?!”
Lucian could not believe what he was hearing. He closed his eyes in a bid to clamp down on his anger.
He had had enough of Zach’s pranks and unserious attitude.
“I’m going to kill you!” He yelled at him, “Come over here, let me kill you easily!” As he spoke, he started hurling objects at Zach, who dodged them quite easily, “Stand still, let me hit you, you freaking bastard!”
Lucian was frustrated that he could not get up and slam Zach to the ground. The little monkey was laughing as he dodged Lucian’s missiles.
“Alright, that’s enough,” he uttered, snickering, “Stop before you hurt yourself, Lucian.”
“You!…” Lucian was breathing hard, his face red with rage.
But he knew his rage was futile.
Zach would continue to tease him everyday until he regained his ability to walk fully.
If he wasn’t his best friend, Lucian was sure he would have had Zach buried in the mountains long ago.
He glared at the annoying man, “Just you wait until I start walking fully.” He said threateningly, “I’ll make sure I beat you to a pulp.”
Zach smirked, “Yea sure, I can’t wait, your Majesty.” Zach replied, with a mock bow, “How are you going to beat me? At cards or at golf?”
Lucian gritted his teeth as Zach laughed at him.
Whenever they had a bet, they always played their favorite games and sports. Lucian always lost at games because Zach was just really good with them.
Lucian glared at him, “I will beat you with my fists.” He uttered coldly, then smirked in an evil manner, “How about some Judo to let off some steam?”
Zach stopped laughing and swallowed hard.
When it came to physical strength, Lucian was definitely going to have the upper hand. Zach recalled the times they had judo practice and Lucian used those opportunities to throw him down multiple times.
Whenever Zach had been naughty, Lucian had always suggested they let off some steam practicing judo.
Zach swallowed hard again, a shiver running down his spine.
“Alright,” he held up his hand in defeat, “I’m sorry for my monkey behavior.”
Lucian arched an eyebrow at him, “Not buying it.” He gritted out, “We are still having that judo practice. Just you wait until I get back on my feet.”
Zach groaned in frustration when he saw that Lucian was dead serious, and he started to regret what he’d done. He really did not want what was coming to him.
“Damn, you’re so petty, Lucian!” He murmured stubbornly, “I was only playing with you. Dammit, can’t a guy tease his friend a little?”
“We are not kids.” Lucian glared at him, “And why do you always tease me in the most peculiar manner?!”
“I never knew you’d fall on the bed because you’re now so fat!”
“Enough!” Lucian uttered, holding his head in his hand, “I have a headache. Let’s just get this over with.”
Zach leaned against the wall opposite the bed and crossed his arms defensively, “What did you want to talk about?” He said, still pouting.
Lucian looked at him and sighed, “Whatever.” He said, then his voice turned serious, “You know my accident was not exactly an accidental occurrence, don’t you?”
At those words, Zach suddenly came at alert, his gray eyes becoming serious as his dark brows came down in a frown.
“What do you mean?” He uttered, his voice calm and measured.
Lucian leaned back on the headboard of his bed, exhaling slowly, “It was orchestrated.”
Zach let out a shivering breath, raking a hand through his hair as he walked towards the balcony in the room.
His breath was coming out in shaky puffs as his eyes turned red with rage.
It had not been a mere accident?
The accident that had placed his friend in a coma for three years, while also making him live with guilt all that time, had been orchestrated?
“Are you freaking serious?” He asked, his voice gruff with rage.
“Yes.”
His simple answer had Zach turning to look at him, his eyes narrowed as he watched his friend closely.
“Something tells me you know who was behind it,” he uttered quietly, his eyes never leaving Lucian’s face, “Lucian, you know who was behind your accident, right?”
Lucian looked at him, “Did you think I would bring it up if I know nothing about it?”
Zach’s mouth dropped open in shock. The next second he rushed over to Lucian’s side, his throat working as he tried to clamp down on his excitement and anger.
“Who is it?” He asked, his eyes red rimmed already with rage, “Who is it, Lucian? Tell me!”
Lucian looked at him once more, his face calm but his eyes like steel, “Nathan Graves.”
