Chapter 38 Suspicious Friends

Chapter 38 Suspicious Friends
Chapter Thirty-Eight

“Who knew he would suddenly do something like this, after so many years?”

Lucian thought to himself, keeping his face perfectly neutral as he ate his breakfast.

He was silent at the table but that was not unusual. The others talked to themselves and Lucian was satisfied that he could brood on his own.

He could not let Nathan get away with this.

That accident had nearly ruined his life, taking three years away from him, and rendered him useless.

“Because of that accident, I was not able to protect Elara,” he thought to himself, his hands gripping the fork he was using.

If Nathan had been a little smarter, instead of just plain hateful, he would have even tried to take over the Graves Empire and killed him off as well as his parents.

But the fool had been content with just being petty, making Lucian paralyzed while torturing the rest of his family with his incompetence.

He was still savoring his meal without actually taking a real bite.

Lucian smirked coldly, “Well, too bad, the meal’s burnt now.” He muttered to himself, “What are you going to do now?”

Lucian knew Nathan had not expected him to suddenly wake up that day. The morning of his recovery, the fool had walked into his room once more and mocked him.

As was his ritual for the past three years.

Lucian had glimpsed the look of pure shock on his face when he awoke.

Nathan had not expected his recovery at all, and now there was nothing he could do.

He could not go back in time and try to kill Lucian in his bed, nor could he immediately take over Graves Empire. He had been taking his time with everything, convinced he had the whole family under his thumb.

Since their shining star was paralyzed, he thought that he had hit them where it hurts the most.

But now, Lucian had awakened and ruined that plan.

Lucian knew Nathan must be sweating now, thinking of ways to correct his mistake. Nathan might try to rush whatever plans he had now, but that was perfect for Lucian.

Because that way, he would slip up and make a mistake. That way, he could hold be able to trap him in whatever scheme he was cooking up.

Suddenly, Aria turned to him, blinking in uncertainty, “Did you say something, Lucian?”

Lucian looked at her and calmly shook his head, “No.” he uttered simply, “Continue eating.”

He glanced over her head and his eyes met that of Zach’s, who was also at the table.

Zach paused in his meal, then resumed eating seconds later, as he understood the message that Lucian was trying to pass across.

He wanted to talk. And it was urgent.

Soon, Lucian pushed back his chair and reached for his crutches, “I’m full.” He announced simply, “I have to get back upstairs.”

The family looked at him in surprise. Aria quickly reached for his crutches and handed it to him, “But you’ve barely eaten anything,” she exclaimed, looking at his still full plate.

Lucian shrugged, “I don’t like salads.”

Aria frowned, “It’s very good for you. It’s what your body needs at the moment.”

Lucian was already moving away from the table towards the elevator in the house. The mansion was so big that it had elevators AND stairs in the house to get around with.

Lucian thought it was really convenient as he could not get up the stairs with his crutches at the moment.

“But Lucian, we still have some discussion surrounding your father’s birthday,” Madam Graves uttered in alarm as she watched Lucian leave the table, “How would you like to come back into society using that event?”

Lucian shrugged once more, “Okay. Whatever,” he uttered not really bothered by it.

Coming back into society was the least of his worries right now.

All he wanted to do right now, was to get to his room and have that discussion with Zach.

But Zach, that idiot, had not even studied up from the table. Lucian turned to look back at him and sighed in frustration when he saw Zach still stuffing his face with his meats and greens.

Madam Graves could not help, but call out once more, “At least, let Aria help you with going upstairs.”

Lucian gritted his teeth, glaring fixedly at Zach, “You are right mom. I could really use some help now,”

Aria was already getting up from the table, when Zach finally understood the message Lucian was trying to pass across with his glare.

He quickly got up from his seat, “I will help you, Lucian.” He uttered loudly as he ran towards his friend before Aria could get to him.

He placed a hand on Lucian’s shoulder, with a dramatic flair, giving him a wide toothed smile.

Lucian sighed in exasperation, but he allowed Zach to continue leading him slowly towards the elevator.

“See, I have help now,” Lucian uttered dryly, giving his mom and Aria a bland smile, “There’s no need to get up. Continue with you meal, Aria.”

Aria stood back, watching the two men walked off into the elevator with narrowed eyes.

They definitely looked suspicious.

From the way, they were giving off fake smiles, to the fact that Lucian had chosen Zach to accompany him upstairs instead of Aria.

Aria was a bit miffed at that but her curiosity overrode every other thing.

She wanted to know what they were discussing, but unfortunately she could not get up from the table at that moment as well.

Madam Graves might find it very strange.

And whatever Lucian wanted to discuss with Zach, his best friend and business associate, it had to be very important and Aria did not want to drag every other person at the table into the matter.

She sat down with a sigh and was about to resume her meal, when she felt the hair at the back of her head stand up on end.

She paused, looking up to find Nathan and Monica glaring at her.
