Chapter 32 Speak!
Chapter Thirty-Two
Later that morning, Zach returned back to Lucian’s room.
Aria had been called upon by Madam Graves because they had something very important to discuss about.
She wondered if it was about Lucian’s healing.
Well then, she had good news for the Madam. If Lucian was able to stand that morning, then they only needed a bit more work with an actual professional and he’d be walking in no time.
So when Zach came back into the room, he was relieved to find only Lucian there.
For all his playfulness and humorous disposition, Zach had been truly mortified when he’d stumbled upon them that morning.
He had never seen Lucian in that position before and had literally been gobsmacked.
Now he stood before Lucian, a contrite look on his face.
“Lucian, bro,” he began after clearing his throat nervously, “I’m so sorry about what happened today, man.”
Lucian gave him a dark look, “It’s fine,” he uttered coldly, eyeing his friend, “Just don’t try it again. You always walk into rooms without knocking. Don’t you know that’s disrespectful?!”
“Ehh?” Zach scoffed, rolling his eyes heavenward. His stance had immediately changed from an apologetic person to a pissed off person, “I walk into this room previously every single time without knocking ! You never had any complaint about it back then!”
Lucian scoffed in exasperation as well as he set out to school his frowning basic courtesy, “Well, at least you should know that things are different now,” he said grimly, “I am married now.”
“Hah!” Zach shot back, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips once more, “I never thought I’d live to see the day Lucian would say words like this with pride. “
Lucian realized that Zach was just going to start teasing him, so he turned his face away while Zach laughed his head off.
“Awwn, are you shy?” The odious man asked as he sat on the bed, batting his eyelashes at Lucian.
Lucian turned to glare at him, exasperated at his friend’s behavior. Zach can really be a monkey sometimes.
“Say what it is you have to say and leave.” He uttered through clenched teeth, “I have to rest. You’re giving me a headache.”
“Wow! Because you’re married now, you no longer want my company?” Zach uttered, turning away from Lucian and pretending to be hurt.
Lucian closed his eyes in frustration, “What on earth do you want, Zach?”
“Oh my god, dude!” Zach finally answered, throwing his hands in exasperation as well, “Didn’t you ask me to get information on your lovely wife? Did you forget?”
Lucian blinked, as his brain actually rewired and he recalled the task he’d asked Zach to carry out for him.
“You told me to do that yesterday, and I said I was coming today.” Zach mumbled, a bit miffed that Lucian had forgotten all about their conversation.
He’d hurried to carry out the task because he wanted to see Lucian so badly, but the jerk was not even expecting him.
He gave Lucian a sly look, “I thought you didn’t like her, which was why you requested the background check “ he uttered with an idiotic grin, “Hell, I thought you didn’t like marriage at all, but what was that this morning?”
Lucian simply looked at his friend, then scoffed slightly at that statement as well.
It does seem very strange.
Only yesterday, he’d been so suspicious of Aria that he’d asked Zach to run a background check on her to see if she was really who see said she was.
Or rather, why she did not seem like who she said she was.
But today, he realized he did not care about anything regarding her background at all.
He did not care if she could eat like a heiress when she grew up in the countryside.
He did not care to know if there was anything suspicious about her.
He just wanted her to be near him at all times. He wanted to feel the softness of her lips again, and the way her body came alive at his touch.
She was doing something to his insides that he’d never felt for anyone else.
Well…anyone except Elara Vaughn.
At the thought of Elara Vaughn, his face became expressionless. He felt an unusually kind of peace that he’d never felt before.
Previously, if Lucian had been involved with any woman in any way or even mistakenly, he’d immediately feel guilty.
As though he’d desecrated himself and Elara would never want him.
But he’d kissed Aria that morning, and even though there was the familiar pricking of guilt in his heart as he thought about Elara, it was not that prominent and he wondered why.
At that moment, Zach snapped his fingers in front of his eyes.
“Hello o. Earth to Lucian!” He called out, waving his hand in front of Lucian’s face, “What the hell were you thinking about, man? I was asking you a question.”
Lucian blinked as he came back into focus, clearing his throat slightly, “Nothing important.”
Zach gave him a mischievous smile, “I know you ere thinking about a certain someone, but I won’t say much.”
Lucian glared at him, “Shut up.” He stated simply, then crossed his arms across his chest, “Now tell me, what did you find out about her?”
“Nothing much.” Zach uttered as they both got down to business. He brought out his iPad from his coat pocket and handed it to Lucian, “She’s a country bumpkin.”
Lucian glared at him and he immediately raised his hands in apology.
“I’m sorry about that “ he apologized, laughing slightly, “Man, you really like this girl! I thought you were going to remain single all your life because of…”
Suddenly, he paused as his face fell and he gritted his teeth in regret.
Lucian’s brow arched at him questioning, “What’s wrong?” He asked, “What’s the matter?”
Zach was chewing his lips in indecision as he looked at Lucian. After a while he uttered, “Everything’s fine, Lucian. Do not worry about it.”
Lucian looked at him, his neon eyes cold as ice, as a sense of foreboding enveloped him, “Speak. What the hell do you have to say?”
