Chapter 15 She…Left?!
Chapter Fifteen
Lucian recoiled at her words, “Say that once more,” he growled, “And I’ll rip your mouth out.”
Aria scoffed, “How are you going to do that?” She asked, smirking, “You’re still confined to the bed.”
Lucian’s face hardened immediately, words failing him, “You!…”
Madam Graves looked from Aria to Lucian and immediately decided to trust Aria .
She turned to the rest of the family, “Alright, let’s take our leave. Aria is right,” she gave Lucian a sly smile, “We should give the newlyweds some privacy. It is their wedding night after all.”
“Mother!” Lucian yelled in frustration, his ears turning red at the tips.
Even Aria cleared her throat nervously as color crept up her neck in embarrassment.
Madam Graves saw all this and she broke out in a fit of giggles.
Despite his hard edges and external appearance, Lucian was actually a soft hearted and loving soul.
Madam Graves knew this, and given Aria’s remarkable intelligence, she was sure that they would fall for each other sooner or later.
The words she’d just said was meant to heighten the mood, and push them together a bit.
With those thoughts, she started shooing the rest of the family outside the room, “Alright, get out all of you! We should all retire for the night. I and the Chairman need our rest as well.”
The rest of the family reluctantly made their way to the door, under Madam Graves shooing.
Nathan looked back at Aria and she could not mistake the hostility in his eyes, “Aria Beaumont, don’t you dare do anything more to Lucian, do you hear me?!”
Aria looked at him, her eyes filled with disdain.
“What an hypocrite. Acting as though he actually cares for Lucian,” she thought, her eyes narrowed at him in annoyance.
“What are you talking about, you fool?!” Madam Graces snapped at Nathan, smacking the back of his head hard as she pushed him out the door, “You are speaking as if she had done any harm to him in the first place!”
Soon, the room fell silent as the bickering and shouting outside the door faded more and more.
Aria inhaled deeply, then turned back to Lucian.
She blinked, when their eyes met, his blue-green gaze moving over hers in such a way that she felt like she was being stripped.
God, the man was beautiful.
Aria found herself clearing her throat nervously once more.
It was okay when Madam Graves was the rest of the family had been in the room. Who would have thought she would be so nervous now that she was alone with him?
Damn it, she had even forgotten what it was she wanted to say.
“Let’s keep our heads about us now, Elara,” she muttered to herself, “I know he’s supposed to be your husband, but he is still your biggest rival.”
Lucian was now sitting up on the bed, having being helped to that position earlier by the doctor.
“Let’s get this done and over with,” Lucian suddenly spoke up, startling her, “I really want to have nothing to do with you, Miss Beaumont. I know the Beaumont family must have expected something in return for letting you marry me, but that will still be granted to them so no worries about that.”
“Oh is that so?” Aria cooed, her face scrunched up in a cute manner, “How very kind of you.”
Lucian’s expression hardened all the more. He suspected strongly that she was teasing him, “I will arrange for the divorce tomorrow.” He uttered coldly, “Get out,”
Aria shrugged, then turned on her heel and walked out of the room.
Lucian found himself exhaling deeply, a breath he did not know he had been holding.
Who the hell is this woman, that she had him up in stitches like this?
And did she actually leave just because he said so?
Lucian doubted that.
He looked at the door, waiting for it to open after a few minutes and for Aria to return.
A few minutes passed and it was still locked.
She was not returning.
Really?
“Huh? Well, that was mighty easy.” He muttered to himself, “Glad I got that out of the way.”
He sighed, leaning back against the head board of the bed. He did not know why he was feeling the way he was at the moment, and why his eyes was straying to the door time and time again.
It was as though he was…waiting for her to come back.
“Impossible!” He said outbound to himself, “She’s just a woman that’s been forced upon me. And besides, she’s not Elara Vaughn. I cannot be with any other woman in this lifetime when there’s Elara.”
He lifted his hands or rather tried to, because they were shaking so badly.
But it didn’t matter.
He would be fine.
Now that he was awake, he should take advantage of his good fortune and try to recover the years which he’d wasted.
He paused, as a thought crept into his mind.
The thought of Aria Beaumont, the woman whom he’d just sent out, the woman who had actually caused him to awaken.
He suddenly felt apprehensive, the room suddenly too stuffy for him to breathe in.
He fell back on the bed, breathing weakly.
Aria Beaumont.
Had she really been the one to cause him to wake up, though? Was everything not just a coincidence, though?
Lucian closed his eyes, thinking back, trying to recall what it had been like lying on this damn bed for the past three years.
It had been the most frustrating, the most painful and the most heartbreaking experience that he’d ever had.
For while everyone thought he was comatose, he was actually covertly conscious.
He could hear everything that happened in the room those three years.
He could feel extreme sadness whenever his mom came into his room and cried by his bedside.
He could feel the helplessness and rage he felt whenever that person comes into his room and mocks his inability to wake up.
He had sensed Aria’s presence when she’d stepped into the room, and for the first time in years, he felt extremely at peace.
When she’d touched him, it was like a surge of electricity had passed through him, giving him the jolt he needed to open his eyes.
“So…did she actually wake me up?” He muttered to himself.
Just then, the door knob twisted and the door to the room was pushed open.
