Chapter 118 More Wrath

Chapter 118 More Wrath
Chapter One Hundred And Sixteen

Nathan’s heart slammed in his chest as he heard those words. It was as if his greatest nightmare had just come to pass.

“Wh…what?!” He uttered in disbelief, his eyes wide with shock, before crying out in desperation, “Father!”

“Shut up!” The Chairman thundered back at him, “You dare to still refer to me as your father?! No son of mine is such a disgrace!”

Nathan’s heart clenched at those words as did his fists. Tears burned his eyes and he had to look away from the Chairman in order to get his emotions under control.

The entire boardroom was quiet as well, with no one daring to say anything. The Chairman’s earlier outburst just proved that he was really livid.

For the Chairman to say those words, meant that he’d been pushed to the brink.

Director Nathan was not going to be getting out of this predicament so easily.

Aria sat back on her chair, turning slightly back and forth in her swivel chair with a faint smile on her face as she watched Nathan through her lashes.

He looked done for, the poor thing.

“He should not have dared to mess with me in the first place,” she muttered to herself, “He should have just remained quiet and taken my good advice. Good thing he didn’t anyway. It just made it all the more easy to get rid of him.”

Nathan finally turned back to the Chairman.

“I can’t pay that much money back,” he said through gritted teeth, looking at them all with red rimmed eyes.

“What are you, deaf?” Lucian uttered, his cold voice slicing through the air and leaving no room for arguments, “You’d be paying back with your personal assets. You have shares in the company, don’t you? I think they will suffice as well.”

Nathan’s eyes widened in alarm, and he turned even paler, “Why would you do this…Just give me another chance!” He uttered in a desperate tone, his pleading gaze cutting to the Chairman once more, “Father!”

“Director Nathan, please,” Aria said crisply, her lips curbed in a hint of a mocking smile, “We’re at the company. Let’s be conscious of that, shall we?”

Nathan whirled on her, his nostrils flaring, “I don’t have to do anything you say!” He growled at her.

“Nathan Graves!” Lucian leaned forward, his grey eyes as dark as stormy clouds, “You do not get to speak to her that way!”

“Oh yeah? Spare me that shit, Lucian!” Nathan shot back, his eyes wide and darting about crazily.

The entire boardroom gasped audibly, everyone shifting uncomfortably on their seats.

Nathan had spoken without any ounce of fear in his eyes or voice.

Lucian’s eyes narrowed at him, cold fury brewing underneath but at the moment, Nathan was not in the mood to be civil or even remember his place in the family.

He was about to lose everything so there was no need to be so scared of Lucian or what the board would think of him.

He ran a hand through his hair, making it stick up every which way, as he relaxed back on his seat and let out a bark of laughter.

“You all are so fixated on my case, you seem to forget that I was not the only one who took on a project.” He suddenly pointed at Aria, his gaze vicious, “What about her? Do you have any idea how the Nexus project is doing now? Huh?!”

Before anyone could say anything, he slammed both palms on the table and bounded to his feet, looking pissed as hell.

“Aria Beaumont who came into the company through nepotism without any experience or education even!” He continued, his voice becoming higher and higher with each word, “This country bumpkin also took on a project at the same time I did, didn’t she?!”

The Finance Director realized that Nathan was directing his questions at him and he immediately started, jerking up to attention on his seat as he coughed nervously.

“W..why yes…” he stammered, “if you’re talking about the Nexus project, Miss Beaumont did head that project and is still running it three months after.”

“What does that have to do with anything?” Lucian inquired calmly, his cold eyes never leaving Nathan’s face.

“Everything!” Nathan was fuming.

He was not going to be the only one going down. If he went down, Aria was going to as well.

Her project probably flopped as well, and she was probably hoping to get away with it.

Well, not on his watch!

“I’m sure Lucian must be thinking he’d pull strings for her.” He thought vindictively, “The Chairman would probably think of letting her go because it’s her first time and she’s inexperienced. I cannot let that happen. If I go down, she does too!”

He turned to the Chairman, a sly little smile on his face, “I think you should be more worried about how she’s faring and what she’s caused the company.” He uttered.

“Oh really?” The Chairman uttered, eyeing Nathan in anger and irritation.

Nathan ignored the look and inhaled deeply, his chest puffing up with ignorant pride. He glanced at Aria who still looked remarkably calm, and smirked.

“Just you wait. I’ll make sure I destroy you single-handedly before I go down!”

The Chairman nodded slightly at the Finance Director, “tell us about the logistics startup.”

The Finance Director hesitated, “Well sir, valuation tripled,” he announced, “The government subsidies have been confirmed. And also, our competitor, the Vaughn Empire, has had their patent blocked.”

Nathan’s jaw dropped open in shock, “Th…that’s impossible!”

Aria laughed then, shaking her head slightly at Nathan’s foolery. The fool probably thought her project flopped and he wanted to use that to draw attention away from himself.

Too bad he’d brought on more wrath on himself.
