Chapter One Hundred And Two
The people stood around whispering behind their hands while shaking their heads in disapproval at Aria.
Some even had their phones out and was recording everything that was going on.
Nathan stepped forward, shaking his head and clicking his teeth in disdain, “Aria, you just can’t resist causing trouble wherever you go, can you?” He asked in an exasperated voice, like an elder brother who was extremely frustrated with a younger one, “It’s okay if you bully my wife at home but why do the same thing here in public?”
The gasps increased and the people literally clutched their pearls when they heard that.
They stared at Aria with judgemental eyes, shaking their heads at her.
Aria turned to glare at Nathan, “Shut up!” She uttered, “Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be more worried about how your project is going to fall through?!”
Nathan’s smile drained off from his face, and it contorted with rage, “You!…”
“Sister, don’t try to change the subject. You know he’s only saying the truth,” Selena chipped in, eager to humiliate Aria completely in the event. She knew her mom would be definitely proud of her later on when she recounted the night’s event for her.
So she crossed her arm and continued, “You’re so rude and all this change happened as soon as you married into the Graves family,” she uttered then sighed, lowering her eyes, “And to think that you were just a substitute for me, but here you go prancing about like you’re the real thing!”
“Okay first of all, shut up!” Zach uttered, stepping forward in defense of Aria, “Second of all, if you’d indeed gotten married to Lucian, he’d have had a divorce the moment he woke up. You’re not worth seeing your stupid mug every morning.”
Selena’s mouth dropped open in shock at those words. No one had ever said words to her like that and it seemed to shatter her into two.
She could do nothing at that moment but stomp her foot on the ground like a child and yell, “What did you just say to me?!”
“Enough Selena!” Aria ordered, giving her a scratching look.
“Don’t tell me what to do!” Selena shot back, baring her teeth.
Aria stepped forward towards her to say in her ears, “I still have the recording where you and your mother set my husband up back at the Beaumont family home,” she uttered in a calm drawl, “Do you really want to go down this path with me, Selena? Huh? Right here and now?”
Selena turned pale and she quickly stepped back from Aria, retreating away as fast as she could.
“That’s enough!” Kurt thundered as he stood up from where he’d been crouching with Era in the ground. He glared at Aria but somehow still managed to make his eyes filled with hurt, as though he was disappointed with her.
Aria almost puked when she saw it.
“Aria Beaumont, I ever expected you to be like this!” He said passionately, holding Vera close to him, “But even so many people, your family even has such to say about you. There’s no doubt you did this deliberately to Vera. Apologize immediately to her!”
Nathan stepped in, “Apologize immediately or hand over the contract for the Nexus project.”
Aria let out a bark of laughter, “What?!”
Nathan puffed out his chest and raised his voice as he continued spouting rubbish, “The Vaughn Empire was the one who was supposed to have the bid, but then you stole it.” He glared at her as he said those words, “So now we have all seen that you’re not deserving of it, why not give it back to its rightful owners?”
“That’s right,” the crowd agreed, “If she has the contract, she would bring a bad name to the Nexus Logistics Company.”
Kurt and Vera had a very smug look on their faces as he listened to what the crowd was saying.
They raised their chin, a haughty look on their faces.
“Aria, just apologize to Vera and we will forget all about what happened here,” Kurt uttered, his eyes and tone soft as though he was uncomfortable with the request he was making.
Vera stepped forward as well, blinking innocently with tear stained eyes, “Just apologize, Vera. If you don’t, then we will all know you’re not fit for the project and the company which you just acquired. You will ruin their values and good works!”
Selena stayed in the background, too scared to utter anything at this point. The video which Aria claimed to have had scared her senseless.
Her dad would kill her if it was revealed that the video recording appeared in public.
However, she could not help but smile maliciously.
Nathan stepped forward, however, “Aria, what are you waiting for?” He asked out loud, “If you think you’re above apologizing, then hand over the acquisition contract!”
“Oh my fucking god!” Aria exclaimed in exasperation, unable to stand the idiocy of the people around her.
She turned to Zach who had stayed quiet by her side all along since that first time, “Did you get it?” She asked him in a succinct tone.
Zach produced his phone with a flourish, “Yes I did,” he uttered with a monkey grin.
While all the commotion was going on earlier, Zach had very cleverly gotten a hold of the CCTV recording of what happened earlier.
Aria took the phone from his hands on which the video was playing. She held it out to the crowd so they could see what exactly had happened.
They saw that Vera had been the one who rushed forward and had grabbed Aria by the arm, turning her roughy and getting the wine spilled all over her in the process.
“What?! She lied?! What a crook!” One person from the crowd yelled.
“What the hell? Vera is such a horrible person! Why would she do that?!”
“Vera Hale, you were the one in the wrong all along but you dare to sit and cry and play the victim?!”
“I can’t believe they also tried to collect the contract from her! The Vaughn Empire has become so shameless after Elara Vaughn’s death!”
“Oh what a shame. Elara Vaughn must be turning in her grave now. Shame on you two!”
