Chapter 141
Chapter 141
“He is the Alpha of Sun Crest, Alpha Beck.” Her father said further, introducing Beck to her, unaware of what was going on.
Even Ben, who was standing beside Beck, was completely shocked. Never in a million years did they imagine that the princess who they came to attend her birthday would be Veronica. The one they had been searching for for years and had thought she was probably dead.
Soon enough, Alpha Charles noticed the awkward silence between them. His eyes darted from Beck to Veronica and back to Beck. “Do you two know each other?” He asked, curiously.
“Yes.” Beck answered immediately. “No” Veronica answered sharply, with both of them speaking at the same time.
“Okay, now this is weird.” Alpha Charles commented. “What is going on?”
“Please, excuse me.” Veronica immediately ran out.
Beck was also about to run after her when Alpha Charles caught him by the arm. “What is going on? What did you do to my daughter?”
“I promise we’ll explain everything to you, but I have to talk to her right now. Please.” Beck replied, and as Alpha Charles let go, he ran off too, following after Veronica.
As he left, Alpha Charles’ curious eyes fell on Ben. “Start explaining immediately.” He said coldly.
Veronica kept running, and didn't stop to look back.
“Vee… wait up. Please wait up.” Beck shouted, following her as she ran further away from where the majority of guests were.
He soon caught up with her and grabbed her arm.
“Get your hands off me!” She snapped, snatching her arm from his grip with an unusual strength, leaving Beck completely stunned.
“Let me explain. Please.” He pleaded.
“Explain what? Explain what exactly?” She asked furiously.
“I have no excuse. I'm sorry.” He said, refusing to give up. “Please just hear me out.”
“I don't want to hear anything from you!” She spat angrily. “Just leave me the hell alone and go back to wherever it is you crawled out from!”
“I can't. I can't go back. Not after I have finally found you.” He said, following her closely.
“Back off, Beck. Else, I'll ask the guards to lock you up and throw away the keys.” She warned, not stopping.
“I don't care, Veronica. You can tell them to throw me into a fiery furnace. I know I deserve it.” He replied, jumping in front of her.
“Get out of my way!” She shoved him aside, and kept walking away angrily.
He didn't give up and kept following her. Seeing that she wasn't ready to give him a listening ear yet, he began to speak in a hurry, trying to catch his breath as he spoke.
“My position as the Alpha was being threatened. My father threatened to strip me off everything if I kept seeing you. There was nothing else I could do. I beg you. Please forgive me. I had plans of finding you once I became the Alpha. I swear to you I have been searching for you since the—”
Veronica scoffed, cutting him off.
“Veronica, I messed up. Yes, I know I messed up big time, and treated you badly. I was a fool back then. I should have stood up for you back then. I promise you that I regret it so badly. I've been regretting it right from the moment you left. I'm sorry. I was just scared then, but I know better now.” He kept following her everywhere since she still refused to wait to hear him out.
“I've searched everywhere for you. I swear by the moon goddess. I've searched everywhere in the last two years, but we couldn't find you, and I was told that maybe you had been killed by some wild animal or something.” He said in a rush, without thinking, making Veronica stop for a split second to glare wildly at him.
“I'm sorry. That came out completely wrong.” He pursed his lips.
She hissed loudly, and kept walking further and further away.
“I swear to you, I have never been the same since you left. I've missed you every single day. I've been a shadow of myself in the last two years. You don't know how I feel right now that I've found you.” He refused to give up, and kept following her.
“Liar! You expect me to believe your lies? Oh wait, So you think you can just show up in my life after almost two years to fool me again? You think you can just say sorry, and sweet talk me, and everything will just go back to normal just like that? Is that it?” She yelled at him.
“You must be the biggest clown alive if you think I'll just take you back just like that!” She hissed, and took a shot of strong alcohol from the tray of one of the passing waiters.
“No, that's not it. I'm sorry for taking you for granted. I swear to you, I'm not trying to fool you again. I'm sorry.” He kept apologizing.
“Do you know how you made me feel? Do you know what the past two years have been like for me?” She asked, heartbroken. “Of course you can't know because you were not there.” She hissed. “Stay away from me!”
“I'm sorry. Please, I'm so sorry, I was foolish. I was scared of what my father was capable of doing to me and to you if I didn't do his bidding. Please, I'm begging you. Just forgive me.” He pleaded, relentlessly.
“I swear to you I’ve searched every single place I know.” He insisted.
“Look at this.” He pointed at Veronica’s bracelet, which she had lost when she was attacked by the gray wolf in the cave.
“While searching for you, we found this…” He showed her the bracelet, which was now on his wrist, alongside his own.
Seeing it, Veronica's eyes began to well up with tears, as she realized that he truly went out in search of her, but she quickly blinked it away instantly.
“And so? What should I do with it?” She asked coldly, to Beck's surprise.
“You think you can show up here with this mere bracelet and everything will go back to how it was?” She asked, her expression nonchalant.
“If you don't know where to put it, thrash the damn thing!”
He had thought she was going to give him a listening ear or maybe calm down when she saw the bracelet, because of how significant it was for them back then, but he was wrong. Instead of giving him a listening ear, she got more mad at him.
“I just want you to find a place in your heart to forgive me. Please, I want—”
“Cut it out, Beck!” She cut him off. “If I was still that worthless and useless omega that you all thought I was, would you ever look me in the eye and give me a chance right now? Huh?” She asked.
“Yes, Veronica. I will. I swear to you, that's why I've been searching everywhere for you. Ben is my witness. I’ve been determined to find you regardless of your rank. I still love you, Veronica.”
“And so? What should I do with that information?” She asked, intentionally giving him cold shoulders.
“Please just hear me out. I swear to you. I have never for once forgotten about you. I have blamed myself for—”
He was yet to finish talking when she took another glass of alcohol from the waiters and downed it in one gulp, squeezing her face as its sour taste took over her taste buds.
Surprised, Beck said, “you know your alcohol tolerance is really low. Please don't drink anymore.”
“What I drink is none of your business!” She snapped, her voice rising in defiance. She grabbed three more glasses and downed them in quick succession, her eyes blinking rapidly as the liquor began to take hold.
Her gaze started to blur, and her words slurred slightly as she spoke. “I can handle my drink, so mind your own business!” The atmosphere around her began to spin slightly, and she stumbled slightly, but she quickly shook her head, shaking the effects off.
“Just look at you now. You’re getting drunk. Please stop. Please, I'm begging you.” Beck pleaded as he tried to stop her from drinking more.
“Leave me alone! You mean nothing to me! Stay out of my business! Stay the hell out of my life!” She snapped, holding up her dress as she stormed off.
“I have moved on with my life. Move on too!” She yelled at him, and started running away from him, but he immediately followed after her.
