Chapter 29 Strange behavior.
Rex.
She didn't even pause to think about her answer. She said she was going to kill them. If she ever came across a werewolf, she was going to kill it. Probably killed it just like she did the one at City Bay. Was she going to do that to him if she ever found out who he was? Going to kill him just like she said. He shouldn't be angry at this. It shouldn't even bother him, but here he was. Unable to sleep. Tossing and turning on the bed like someone with constipation.
How could she even be like that? He tried to go to sleep that night, but couldn't.
He had to stay up all night until he was ready to go to school.
He shouldn't be in school except on the days they had trainings, but he was told that they had to grade the trainings.
He spent the entire morning and afternoon filling the class records, until he heard a knock on the door. His eyes moved to the door.
Was it Naomi coming to apologize for what she said? Coming to tell him that she would not kill any werewolf if given the chance to.
Some relief filled his chest, but it was immediately crushed, the moment the door opened and the last person he expected to ever show up in his office walked in.
Hands on her waist and eyes scanning the room as she walked.
"I know. I didn't think I'd come in here too."
Calix. She smirked as she walked to stand in front of his desk. After which she leaned against it, and poked her chest forward.
Even from where he was sitting, he could smell the scent of cigarettes on her breath. Was she that much of an addict? Her eyes were a bit red.
He closed the record in front of him. Folding his arms, he leaned back into his seat.
"What do you want?"
"Mr. James never asked this much questions, you know. He always had something for me whenever I came to his office."
She picked up a pen from the table and flipped it between her fingers.
Mr. James. He had to scoff internally. Was she expecting him to give her the same treatment? Of course not, he wasn't Mr. James.
"Here is the funniest thing." She dropped the pen and pinned him down with accusatory eyes.
"He suddenly disappeared without a trace. Even his family doesn't know where he is."
"And out of a sudden, you showed up and quickly replaced him."
Give people the right amount of money and you could buy their loyalty. But then, what was she getting at?
"Tell me what this is all about."
Hopefully she wasn't pointing accusatory fingers at him.
"Nothing." She shrugged. "A lot of things happen. A lot of coincidences." He just had to wait for her to finish with whatever story she was announcing so that he could then ask her to leave.
"If you loved him so much, you should go and find him. As you can clearly see, he is not here."
"All right, I will leave. But I will come back again."
She turned to leave, but turned back.
"About that girl Naomi. How much do you know about her?"
She surely had some nerve today to come to his office to ask him about that.
"She is my student. You might want to meet her if you have any questions."
"No offense here, though. Just asking because it seemed like you two have something in common."
His brows knitted as he waited for her to go ahead and explain to him what she meant by that.
"I think that's enough. Just get out of my office."
He didn't want to have anything to talk about with her. And if he ever found that she had been disturbing Naomi, then she was going to pay for it. She seemed like just the type to do something like that.
She left his office. He went ahead to finish what he was doing. Talking about Naomi. He hadn't seen her after their first training.
Was she avoiding him? He shrugged. He was going to see her tonight.
When school was over, he packed everything he needed and left the school premises and headed home. Since he didn't come here to sleep around, he changed into some normal clothes and made his way around to see if he could gather some information.
His shift didn't start just yet. He went to her house. There were no lights.
They should be asleep by now. It was late in the night. He decided to let her sleep and come back another day.
Just after he made his way out of the narrow road that led to their house, bright headlights met his eyes, almost blinding him.
He looked for a dark corner and stood there, watching. A man got out of the car with an umbrella; it was only dripping. He went to stand in front of the passenger side of the car.
The door opened and a woman stepped outside and into the umbrella.
He immediately recognized the woman. That was Naomi’s grandmother. Was Naomi staying at her house with just this woman or was there another person?
He saw her last time leaving the house late in the night, and this time around, she was coming back late at night. There must be something going on with her.
She was definitely up to something.
He was going to ask Naomi about this if they met.
He left that area. He gave Tim a call to check on Nina. How she was doing. The kind of drug that had been used on her.
He had been told that she was still in a comatose state. This meant that it was something strong and dangerous.
It could be the humans' newest development to use on werewolves, to try and get rid of them. And guess what, he was not going to let that happen.
Tim told him that the doctors were still trying to extract some of it out of her system.
Hopefully, they did something.
