Chapter 45 Struggles
Naomi
"You are going back to school tomorrow." I looked up at Ma'a over my plate of food.
Going back to school? "I have been expelled." That was no joke. I showed her the letter. Did she think I was joking when I brought that letter home?
"I told you I was going to fix it, and I meant it."
She dragged something from under her tights and slid it across the table to me. It was a letter as well, with the official school stamp on it.
I raised my brows at her. Was she being serious right now? She rectified it?
How did she do it? She had no connections.
"How is this possible?"
"No need for long questions, Naomi. Just do as you have been told and avoid whatever got you expelled in the first place. If this happens again, I wouldn't take it lightly with the person who started it. Be careful."
I opened the letter and it was indeed from our school. I couldn't argue with her.
"Okay, Ma'a. Thank you."
Yet, the question remained. How did she do it?
Connections, she had none. People in high places, she had none. How was she able to do this all by herself?
Nonetheless, I thanked her for taking me back to school. It meant a lot.
"Oh, lest I forget, who is that man—or teacher, per se—who has been giving you personal training? Do you need him that much to trust him?"
I spun around with the speed of lightning and stared at Ma'a. What did she just ask me?
"What are you talking about?"
She raised her brows. "Rex. Don't act like you don't know who I'm talking about."
Oh! Rex. How did she know about him? Had she been spying on me or had someone else do it?
What would be her reason for going to such lengths? Sending a spy after me?
"How did you know about him?"
"I'm just looking out for you, Naomi. You have to be careful with the people you interact with. You don't even know this man that well and, besides, you are not supposed to be doing all that with your teacher. It is dangerous."
"Okay," I said and walked back up to my room. She must have done something, but she was not going to tell me. That is why I didn't push further.
She must have sent someone after me after the incident at Xylos. A lot of security, including police officers and the army, had been sent out to watch the city.
Maybe she was doing the same for me. But she didn't have to go to that extent. Even if werewolves wanted to attack, they wouldn't come to my house to find me unless I stepped in their way. So, what exactly was she protecting me from?
Work at Dean's Diner was the only thing keeping me sane; if not for that, I wouldn't know what to do right now.
Why had Ma'a put people to follow me? To know my every move?
How did she even do that? She had no money to hire someone to start tailing me. What for?
Again, how was she able to get me back into Sandalwood? It was an elite school; not just anyone could get that kind of opportunity, but she did it like it was nothing.
I had been working since I arrived. "Two guys just walked in. See to it that you take their orders," Mandy said as she dropped some dirty plates into the sink.
I nodded as I quickly rinsed those that I had been washing. I took the plates to Alice and hurried to the reception. Yeah, two guys had just entered. I walked to their table.
"You are welcome. Here is the menu. Tell me what you want and I will get it right away," I said, all with a smiling face.
While one extended his hand to get the menu, the other looked at me with a smirk on his face. I acted like I didn't see it.
"I will have this, this, and this." He tapped on the menu.
"I will have whatever he is having," the one with the smirk said.
"Okay. Just relax while you wait for your orders."
I returned with the orders on a tray. I stood on the opposite side of the table and carefully placed each dish in front of them.
Just when I was about to leave, the one who was smirking at me grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards him, so much so that I almost pushed over the jar of water I had just set for them.
"Hey beautiful, do you mind providing extra services? Beautiful lips that can take my cock."
What? Disgust filled me and I tried to yank my hand away from him, but he held tight.
"Let me go," I warned, anger already taking over me.
"What are you going to do if I don't let go?" he challenged.
He was really testing my patience. He wanted to see how far I could go. But not here and not right now.
I struggled to stay calm, to act like it was just some silly accident on his part.
"Let her go, just like she said."
Tingles flushed over my body before I could fully comprehend the voice.
Mr. Rex.
Before I could fully spin around to see what he was doing, he grabbed my wrist and dragged me behind him. Then, without warning, the guy's wrist snapped in two.
My hands reached up to my mouth. People in the diner turned to look at us, while others scurried away in fear.
"What? You broke my wrist!" the man yelled in pain as he supported his limp wrist with his other hand.
"And I will break your neck if you don't leave this place. And when you do, don't ever come back here."
The guy and his friend ran out without even looking back.
"I get that he was harassing me, but breaking his hand was extreme."
"Whatever you say." He took my hand and made me follow him outside.
