Chapter 40 - Fate Works Mysteriously
Chapter 40 - Fate Works Mysteriously
Raine
As Joe’s hand closed around her own, Raine was sure she heard someone from the audience growl and then a second growl which for some reason made a shiver run up her spine. She felt her eyes narrow for a split second as she realised it was most likely Joe’s Mate, growling because they were holding hands. And in that split second, she noticed Joe’s hand twitch, confirming her theory. She wanted to turn and stick her tongue out defiantly at the asshole, however there was a major flaw to this plan, she didn’t know what he looked like and even if she did the damn stage lights prevented her from seeing anyone out there. She’d have to wait until after the performance to confront him.
At the moment though, she had to put these thoughts to the back of her mind. She was there for Joe, not some growling ass hat! She concentrated solely on Joe as they sang together, feeling the emotions of the sad song. Joe relaxed the moment their voices accompanied one another and even seemed to forget that his Mate was out in the crowd somewhere.
The song seemed to end far too soon as they sang the last note and they stood waiting for the instrumentals to finish. Joe’s mood seemed to dip as he realised he would have to continue on by himself, only Raine would not allow this. She got to the tips of her toes and whispered into his ear.
“Sing your next number and then we’re switching to set number 12!” She whispered urgently and winked at him once she had pulled away.
At first Joe seemed confused by her words but then they appeared to sink in and a look of absolute relief and adoration melted into his features. He looked close to tears as he mouthed, ‘thank you’ to his friend. She smiled back and as soon as the last note of the instrumentals played, she dashed from the stage back into the wings.
“Trevor!” She called out to her friend as she skidded to a temporary stop in front of the sound tech, causing him to jump in fright. “Joe’s doing his next song, and then we’re switching to set number 12!” She informed him as he stared at her. She proceeded to chuck her microphone at him, which he had both luckily already turned off and caught. “I’m gonna change quick, I need a face-mic, ASAP!” She told him.
Trevor nodded, speechlessly.
“Got that!?” She asked, patting his shoulder, worried he may not have understood.
Trevor shook his head and then grinned up at her nodding before pulling out his walkie-talkie to get the fast prep started. Raine grinned back and then she was off, sprinting to her dressing room.
She threw the door open and flicked the lights on. She had no time to get ready! She ripped her hair from its pony tail and fluffed it quickly with her hands. Good enough! She thought before running to her wardrobe, flinging her clothes from her body as she went. She grabbed the first piece of fabric that touched her fingers and threw it on, she had no time to match shoes, so she made the snap decision that this would continue to be a bare foot performance tonight. She quickly checked her reflection before running back to Trevor at the sound tech booth; he was stood ready for her with a face-mic in hand. He strapped the battery back to the back of her dress as she slipped the mic over her head and did her best to hide the band with her hair.
“Ready?” He asked her, as she puffed for air.
“As I’ll ever be!” She laughed between gasps for air.
He signalled for her to enter the wings again and Raine caught her breath as she waited for her queue to re-join Joe on stage.
Axel
Once they finished their song Axel waited patiently for his love to start singing again, but to his surprise before the music began again she dashed away from the stage, leaving Lunarr behind and disappeared behind the side curtains.
He nearly dashed from his own seat as well, but hearing Oscar stopped him.
“Where is Luna off to in such a rush?” He asked seeming as alarmed as Axel when she suddenly ran off.
Axel gripped the seat to stop himself storming the stage, to reach backstage, to find her again. He didn’t like seeing her dash away from him again!
“To change.” They faintly heard Ray murmur.
“Huh?” Oscar looked at him, as did Axel; choosing to put his attention on his Delta to stop himself from doing something stupid.
Ray sighed, but never took his eyes off of his mate who was still on stage and looked to be taking a moment before his next song started.
“She’s likely run to change.” Ray explained. “From the outfit she had on I don’t think she originally had the intention of performing but after seeing…” He swallowed hard. “Joseph struggling she must have rushed in to help him…she’s a good friend.” He whispered the last part and Axel didn’t miss the moment where he choked out his Mate’s name.
Their conversation was cut short when the music began to play again and Lunarr sang. Ray was completely absorbed in his performance and Axel noticed that Lunarr seemed to have been performing with some kind of new found confidence and resolve.
“Mate helped him!” Leon told him. “Mate is so caring and thoughtful.” He practically was drooling inside Axel’s head.
Axel agreed and despite Ray’s comforting words that she had run off to change; he still felt himself on edge when she wasn’t right in front of him. Terrified that she had noticed him somehow in the crowd and had made a run for it before he had had the chance to speak to her.
Before he even knew it, Lunarr had finished the song he had been singing and had started the next. He was only a few verses in when that angelic voice which gave Axel goose bumps and made Leon howl with joy in his head appeared. Axel felt the relief wash through him; she hadn’t run away.
A few seconds after they had heard her sing again, she appeared from the side of the stage and once he saw what she was wearing; Axel felt the growl rip through his lungs before he could stop it.
“What is Mate wearing!?” Leon growled.
She had appeared in a wine red mini dress that barely covered the top of her thighs, it hugged her body tight and her curvaceous sides were on clear display as it looked like someone had cut the sides out of her dress! And to top it all off, she still wasn’t wearing any shoes! She had remained bare foot!
“Mate looks hot!” Leon drooled in his head as they both drank her in; half aroused and half raging.
Axel agreed, he loved how delicious she looked in that dress. He wanted nothing more than to have the privilege of ripping it from her beautiful body. However, he also had the urge to rip out the eyes of every male in the room who had also seen her, he wanted to be the only one to enjoy her. Leon huffed in agreement to this thought; even if he ended up with a blind Beta and Delta.
Her mesmerising performance with Lunarr on stage managed to distract him from gauging anyone’s eyes out luckily. He and Ray sat simply staring and smiling and following their Mate's every move on stage as they sang and danced with one another. Meanwhile, Oscar seemed to be enjoying ordering as much liquor as he could from the little pixie waitress Flit; since he had yet to find his mate and still had brain function unlike the others.
They were so absorbed in watching their mates on stage that they didn’t sense a certain club owner approach them from beside Axel.
“Amazing, aren’t they?” Sigmund asked, making them tense for a moment from the surprise of his silent approach.
No one answered; they simply continued watching the duo on stage. Axel could sense where he was standing though, he was right behind them between him and Ray.
“Amazing how fate works so mysteriously sometimes, isn’t it?” This peaked Axel’s interests a little more, but he still kept his eyes glued on his beautiful Mate as she sang.
“What do you mean?” Oscar asked; after taking a huge gulp of his drink.
He received an amused chuckle from Sigmund before the Vampire explained.
“What are the odds that the future Luna of your pack would not only rescue and save the life of the future Delta’s mate but that they would bond and become the best of friends; as close as siblings. The man who will share the responsibility of protecting her has already been doing so for years.” Sigmund told them.
Axel felt the information sink in and suddenly he realised what Sigmund meant. It was true. Ray’s mate was already doing his future duty and he didn’t even know it. Axel felt his chest rise with pride, not only was he gaining his Luna but one of her protectors as well.
“She saved him?” Ray asked Sigmund; for only a moment Axel glanced at his Delta and saw how wide his eyes had gone.
“Yes.” Sigmund answered. “She found him in a wasteland dying of dehydration and attack wounds.” Ray growled at this information. “She healed and took care of Lunarr until he was healthy again, Lunarr swore to pay her back and look after her.” Sigmund informed them.
“Mate is amazing.” Leon whispered and Axel agreed.
“Luna…I have to thank her…” Ray choked and Axel saw tears threatening to spill.
He didn’t blame Ray, he would be upset if he had heard something like that had happened to his mate as well and he would be forever grateful to the person who had saved her.
“After the performance, may I ask to have a word with you Alpha?” Sigmund asked Axel. “It can wait until after the show, but please meet me at the bar once the lights go on.” The Vampire finished.
Axel grunted a ‘yeah,’ not wanting to miss a single second of his mate on stage. The vampire chuckled in response before disappearing again.
They sat never moving from their booth as they watched mesmerised by their mates; except for Oscar who seemed content to drink on Axel’s dime.
Axel felt himself starting to feel nervous as each song moved to the next. He was going to get a chance to speak to her tonight, even if he had to camp out in the VIP lounge. He was going to talk to her!
Before they knew it the final song was performed, Lunarr and Siren did their final bow and the curtains closed making them vanish from the crowds sight. As the lights came back on, Axel stood and was ready to storm the backstage to finally speak to his mate when he was waylaid by a certain Pixie waitress.
“Woah, hold it there Alpha!” She said, raising a hand to stop him. “Sigmund is waiting for you by the bar!” She reminded him and just as Axel was about to growl his protest, Flit giggled and continued. “Trust me, you’re going to want to speak to him. You’ll both get your chance with Siren and Lunarr, Sigmund is having us chase everybody out early so you actually have a shot at a semi-private meeting.” She smirked at him before gesturing towards the bar.
Leon growled inside of him, but Axel made the decision to follow the Pixie’s orders. If it meant he would get to see her without having to storm the backstage and possibly scare her before they had even had the chance to speak, then he would try it.
He would see her soon…
