Chapter 119 Chapter 110
Rosemary
The hidden passage was narrow and winding, the air thick and damp as I moved forward. The faint light from my conjured orb flickered, casting long shadows against the uneven walls. Every step echoed ominously, the sound swallowed quickly by the oppressive quiet. The pull of the blood magic was stronger now, almost a physical force, tugging me deeper into the labyrinthine cave.
My senses were on high alert, my fingers twitching as I prepared for anything. The tension in the air was suffocating, thick with latent energy. Andromeda was close - I could feel her presence like a thorn in my mind, sharp and unrelenting.
The passage widened abruptly, opening into a massive cavern. Stalactites hung from the ceiling like jagged teeth, glinting faintly in the glow of the magic swirling through the air. At the center of the cavern was an altar, carved from black stone and etched with intricate runes that pulsed with a faint crimson light. The energy radiating from it was dark and insidious, crawling over my skin like a living thing.
And there she was.
Andromeda stood before the altar, her back to me. Her dark robes billowed slightly as if stirred by an invisible wind, and her hands rested on the stone surface. The air around her seemed to ripple, the faint hum of her magic filling the cavern. Her presence was suffocating, a storm of malice and power that made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.
“You’re persistent,” she said, her voice cutting through the silence like a blade. She didn’t turn to face me, but I could feel her smile, cold and cruel. “I’ll give you that.”
“And you’re predictable,” I shot back, stepping into the cavern. My voice echoed, the sound bouncing off the walls. “Hiding in the dark, clinging to your schemes. You can’t keep running, Andromeda.”
She laughed softly, the sound low and mocking. “Running? Oh, my dear Rosemary, I’m not running. I’m preparing.”
I took another step forward, my hands clenching at my sides. “Preparing for what? You can’t win this. Whatever power you think you have, it won’t be enough.”
Finally, she turned, her lilac eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. Her face was serene, almost serene, but there was an edge to her expression that sent a chill down my spine. And then I saw it - the unmistakable curve of her pregnant belly.
“You still don’t understand,” she said, her voice soft but laced with menace. “This child isn’t just my legacy, it’s the beginning of a new era. The end of your world and the rise of mine.”
My chest tightened, anger and fear twisting together in a volatile mix. “That’s where you’re wrong,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging within me. “I won’t let you do this. I’ll stop you, no matter what it takes.”
Andromeda smiled, a chilling expression that didn’t reach her eyes. “You can try,” she said simply. “But you’re too late, Rosemary. The pieces are already in motion. The threads of fate are woven. You can’t stop what’s coming.”
The air between us crackled with tension, the weight of her words pressing down on me. My magic stirred, a simmering energy just beneath the surface, begging to be unleashed. I met her gaze, unflinching, my resolve hardening.
“This isn’t fate,” I said firmly. “This is your delusion. And I’m here to end it.”
Her expression darkened, her eyes narrowing. The cavern seemed to shudder as her magic surged, a palpable force that sent a wave of pressure rippling through the space. The ground beneath my feet trembled, and I steadied myself, my magic flaring in response.
Andromeda raised a hand, the air around her warping as a sphere of dark energy coalesced in her palm. “If you want to stop me, Rosemary, then prove you’re worthy of the challenge.”
Before I could respond, she hurled the sphere at me. I reacted instinctively, raising a hand to summon a barrier. The two forces collided with a deafening explosion, the impact sending shockwaves through the cavern.
The battle had begun.
