Chapter 47 The Trap
Chapter 47 The Trap
Lira’s POV: The Trap
The man’s words hit me harder than any of Lyra’s punches.
Your mother sends her regards.
My mother was dead. She had to be. This was a trick. It had to be.
Riven stood like a wall in front of me. I could feel the tension in his body. We were surrounded. There were too many of them.
The man with the scar smiled. He looked at Riven. “You are very strong to break the serum. And to find this place. I am impressed.” His voice was like oil. Slick and dangerous.
“Who are you?” Riven growled.
“My name is Kael,” the man said. “I was your mother’s most trusted guard, Selene.” He looked at me again when he said it.
“Stop calling me that,” I whispered. My head was spinning. Nothing made sense.
“But it is your name,” Kael said. He took a step closer. His men moved with him, closing the circle. “Your mother, the Rogue Queen, faked her death to protect you. And to protect the Moonstone.”
He pulled a small, glowing object from his pocket. It was a stone, pale and shimmering like the moon. It cast a soft light on his cruel face.
The Moonstone. It was real.
“She gave this to me for safekeeping,” Kael said. “But it is only half of the key. The other half… is you.”
He pointed at me. “Your blood is the only thing that can unlock the stone’s true power. With it, I can become the true Alpha King. No one will be able to stop me.”
Riven let out a low growl. “You will not touch her.”
Kael sighed, as if he was bored. “You are brave, boy. But stupid.”
He nodded to his men.
They attacked.
Riven fought like a demon. He moved faster than I could see. He broke bones. He threw men across the room. He was trying to protect me.
But there were too many. While he was fighting three men, a fourth came from behind. He hit Riven on the head with the butt of his gun.
Riven stumbled. His eyes went blurry for a second. It was all they needed.
Three men jumped on him, pinning him to the ground. He fought, but he couldn’t get up.
“Riven!” I screamed.
Kael walked over to me. He knelt down. He was so close I could smell his cologne. It made me sick.
“Don’t worry, Selene,” he said softly. “This will only hurt for a moment.”
He took the Moonstone in one hand. With his other hand, he grabbed my broken arm.
I cried out in pain.
“Your blood is the key,” he whispered.
He pressed the Moonstone against the bloody cut on my arm from Lyra’s knife.
A blinding white light exploded from the stone. It filled the room. It was so bright I had to close my eyes.
I felt a strange warmth spread through my body. The pain in my arm faded. The fog in my mind cleared. Memories, long forgotten, rushed back.
I saw my mother. Not as the kind omega I remembered, but as a powerful queen with silver hair like mine. She was handing me a small, wooden toy. She was smiling. Then men in black clothes came. They took her away. She was screaming my name. Selene!
My real name.
The light faded. The room was silent.
Kael was staring at the Moonstone. It was now glowing with a steady, powerful light. He laughed, a sound of pure triumph.
“It is done!” he shouted. “The power is mine!”
He stood up, holding the glowing stone high. “With this, I will crush the Alpha King. I will rule everything!”
He looked down at me, his eyes full of a terrible joy.
“Thank you, Selene. You have served your purpose.”
He turned to his men. “Kill the boy. Bring the girl. She may still be useful.”
One of the men standing over Riven pulled out a knife.
“No!” I screamed.
But it was too late. The man brought the knife down.
A gunshot rang out.
The man with the knife fell to the floor, a hole in his chest.
Everyone froze.
We all looked toward the doorway.
Cael stood there, leaning against the broken door frame. He was pale and covered in blood. A bandage was wrapped around his middle where the spear had hit him. He held a smoking gun in his hand.
His eyes were burning with a cold fire. They found mine across the room.
He was alive.
He looked at Kael, at the glowing Moonstone, and then at me as I lay broken on the floor.
His voice was weak, but it filled the room.
“Get your hands off my mate.”
