Chapter 213 Old Friend

Chapter 213 Old Friend
Hosea’s POV

I mumble a string of curses under my breath, my two hands folded behind my back. One of my hands was wrapped tightly around Laurette’s wrist, while the other was wrapped tightly around the grip of my pistol. The life I lead makes it impossible for me to be completely dressed without one of these stuck in my belt.

I feel Laurette’s fingers graze my hand that is holding my gun, and even before she jumps back, my grip on my wrist tightens, pulling her closer. I hear her sharp intake of breath behind me, but before I can turn to attend to her, the big fat bastard in front of me speaks up.

“Well look at that… I guess I do have good eye sight. I knew it was you the moment I saw you”. He laughs, rubbing his wobbly belly.

I was very familiar with the gangs in Brookston. Especially since they did everything in their power to get me to notice them. I don’t know when the obsession with me started but I know I want it to end tonight.

My only regret is having Laurette here to watch it happen. Especially with how sensitive she is to violence.

“If you’re done paying your unneeded homage you can fuck off”. I point behind him.

Big Dante, the leader of the Crows gang here in Brookston was a fierce man. He never looked it— even now, as I look him over, he seemed like a regular pedestrian in his sports shorts and flip flops— but he was a menace. A menace that I would love to tickle.

Dante had tried to recruit me into his gang a few years ago, but I was already in too deep with the Roadboys. And I also had no interest in standing by to laugh at his mind numbing jokes all day long, like the guys behind him are currently doing. They waited like sheep for him to look behind him with a smile and as soon as he does, they bust out laughing. It  was their cue.

Pathetic.

Dante had agreed to let me go without facing the consequences of saying no to him, but only on the condition that I stayed far away from Brookston.

Which I was dutifully violating at the moment.

Dante barks out a laugh at my jab, his wussy guards following suit. “You haven’t changed. You and that potty mouth of yours”. He takes a step forward, making me grip my gun tighter. “Well kid, a deal is a deal. You weren’t supposed to step foot in my turf after little stunt— oh”. I watch the exact moment Dante’s eyes go behind me, at the head peeking out from behind my shoulders. “What do we have here?”  He smiles.

“The exact reason I’m about to kill you, that’s what.”  I clip, eyes following his every move.

I see the flash of confusion in his eyes as he ponders on my words before he blinks and its gone. “Kid, I’ll have you know that my offer is still on the table. Given you wanna take it. But for now, I can’t let you leave without a few broken bones. Not after you broke my heart.”  His palm finds his chest, and I roll my eyes at his cheeky theatrics.

He regards me with a smile, then steps back and flicks his wrists at his guards, who suddenly begin to charge towards me with a roar. I had counted about seven of them as soon as I saw them and usually, it wouldn’t take me up to half an hour to sweep through them, but fighting with just one hand slows me down.

I dodge the punch of the first guy and throw mine to the spot beneath his armpits, sending him stumbling back. The next is a kick, that has me raising my hand to protect my face. But I’m also quick to grab the foot after the first hit and twist it so the guard lands on the floor with a thud.

I feel Laurette repeatedly jerking against me, and I suddenly want to hurry things up and get her out of here, which is why I march towards my next victim myself.

About an hour later, all the guards lay groaning in pain on the floor in front of me, and I’m staring into the eyes of the fat pig who ruined my date.

He doesn’t bat an eye at the fact that his boys are scattered like chickens on the floor, and casually strolls to me with a blank look on his face. “I didn’t expect any less, kid. Run along now, and don’t let me set my eyes on you again.”

I stare him down for a few silent seconds, making sure there is no deceit in his words to me. Once I’m sure he is honest, I tighten my grip around Laurette’s wrist and pull her with me, hurrying out of there.
