Chapter 39 Untitled Chapter
Axel Calloway; I won't be surprised if it's him. That guy must have done a lot of things he has done in this Pack. And since he was involved in the manager’s death, he could be the one who helped Rowan and the rogues leave the forest.
His killing the manager was to keep him shut so his secrets wouldn't be revealed. Hmm, Axel is in soup.
“Get him out of the prison and bring him over to my office.”
We returned to the Pack, and the General had Axel brought to the office as I had ordered earlier.
“Where did you hide Rowan?”
His eyes bulged out, and his jaw dropped as if I had said something he didn't know.
“Don't you even think of lying right now, Axel; we already know who you are and what your mission in this Pack is!” Hans thundered.
Oh, yes, but not all. And I would like to know who he is and who he is working for.
“I don't know what you guys are talking about,” he sniffled, lowering his head sadly.
Seriously? Even after the torture, he is still pretending to be innocent?
I got up from the chair, grabbed his chin, and forced him to look at me.
“Do I look like someone you would lie to?” Blue light flashed in my eyes, but instead of fear, his eyes lit up and his lips curled into a smile.
He looked astonished, or rather, ecstatic that he had found what he had been chasing. I released his chin, but he didn't stop staring at me that way, and it annoyed me.
Pak!
Hans smacked him on the face, sending him to the floor. Then he angrily grabbed Axel’s collar, punched him in the face, and slammed his head on the wall.
“No one looks at my mate that way!” He thundered, then kicked him on his tummy.
I didn't know Hans saw the way Axel was looking at me; I thought he was focused on something else. And he did well because that was the exact thing I wanted to do to Axel.
The old Axel would have been screaming in pain, pleading for mercy, but this one, he only lay on the floor, holding his tummy, while still looking at me.
“Your mate?” He scoffed, slowly lifting himself. “Do you think I don't know the stupid games you guys are playing?”
Wow! So he knows what is between Hans and me? Fantastic.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Hans stepped towards him, rolling his sleeve up.
“The nonsense you two are playing!” he yelled, dragging his butt towards the wall. “Amelia and you are not mates; she doesn't have your mark…”
Pak! Pak! Pak!
Hans slapped him three times, breaking his lips with his mighty fingers.
Axel’s audacity baffled me and made my blood rage. I couldn't control my emotions this time; I jerked towards him and kicked his head on the wall.
Has he been spying on us all this time? I have a mark on my neck, a temporary tattoo to make them believe Hans has marked me. How dare he dig into my personal life?
“I will kill you for poking your dirty nose into my matter, Axel!” I took his neck in between my hands, pressing it so hard that his eyes popped out red.
“And when I am done with you, I will track down Rowan and kill him for the second time, and this time, I will burn his body together with yours!”
“Don't kill him,” Hans said, holding my hands. Wasn't he the one who wanted to kill him just now? Why the sudden pity? Axel deserves death, and I must kill him.
“He hasn't told us yet who he is working for and where he hid Rowan and the Rogues.”
Isn't it obvious that he is working for Rowan? He helped them get into this Pack by plane; the omegas he gathered in the packhouse are a great clue for that.
“Whoever I am working for is none of your business. Amelia!” Axel yelled, holding his throat. “One thing I know is, your days are numbered. You have already awakened the magic within you, and in no time, they will come after you.”
What!
“Who will come after her?” Hans grabbed his neck again, pinning his head against the wall.
“Those who will conquer this Pack. Those who killed your parents and her parents.” He cracked up, his eyes glinting with mischief.
As soon as Hans’ attention drifted away from him and his hands loosened, Axel kicked him back, jumped on his feet, and shifted into his wolf, a big, brown wolf, the rogue that he is.
The deep woody scent filled the room, and before we could react, he took off and galloped out of the office.
“Chase!” I called out to Amy, and then she took control and chased him.
Hans followed us, letting Kael take over. We chased Axel across the street, scaring off the Pack members going about their daily activities. However we ran, we couldn't catch up with him. He was so fast, like the wind.
“Go back, we will chase him and bring him back,” Kael called out in between breaths, but we wouldn't go back.
Unfortunately, we lost him in the woods, but his scent still lingered, showing he was still inside the woods.
“I will inform the troops at the borders not to let Axel escape from this Pack,” I said to Hans after shifting back.
And if they dare let him go away, they will regret ever doing that. I can't be working day and night to see that this Pack is living in peace while they will be working with the enemies instead of carrying out their duties at the border.
“Go ahead, I will go deep into the woods and find him.”
“Amelia, use your magic!” Amy snapped,
I had almost forgotten I could capture that guy with my magic if Amy hadn't reminded me. He wouldn't have even gotten to run out of the company if I had used it on him.
I stepped back, spread my arms, and shut my eyes. My feet lifted off the ground, and I rose until I could see the tall trees beneath me. Then I snapped my eyes open, blue light glinting out of them. I zoomed through the forest, turning from left to right, and then I saw him galloping towards the border.
“That's him! Now bring him back!”
