Jane
I intentionally told Raymond’s friend about my wolf, Amber. I was sure he would tell his alpha about me. I was planning my revenge slowly and would deal with him.
At least there was one bright spot in all this darkness. Ella had finally found her mate, and seeing her happiness gave me a small measure of peace. But even that joy was tainted by worry.
My ex-mate was ruthless, and with Ella living in Raymond’s pack now, would he hurt her to get back at me?
The shrill ring of my phone interrupted my spiraling thoughts.
“Hello, Mom.”
“Hi, sweetheart. How are you?” Mom’s voice sounded scared. Something was wrong.
“Mother, what’s troubling you?”
“Nothing, baby,” she said. But I knew she was lying.
“Mom, I can tell something is wrong. You can tell me anything.”
She took a deep breath. “Jane, it’s about your ex-mate. He came to our house looking for you. He said he wants you back now.”
I got very angry. “What! Are you serious? How dare he! We’re not mates anymore. He rejected me!”
“I know, honey. That man is no good for you,” Mom said. “Your father told him I might know where you are. When I said no, he said he would hurt me if I didn’t tell him.”
“He threatened you? Did you tell him where I am?”
“Never! I would die before telling him where you are,” Mom said strongly. “I won’t let you go back to someone who hurts you.”
I loved my mom so much. She always protected me.
“Mom, he will find me anyway. Raymond knows where I live. He will tell his Alpha.”
“What? But how?” she questioned. “How did he find out where you were staying?”
“Mom, do you remember Uncle Tommy’s beta daughter, Ella?”
“Yes, I do. That lovely angel,” she acknowledged.
“She’s Raymond’s mate,” I let out. “They met each other at the club, and he drove us home. I’m sure he’ll inform his alpha of my whereabouts.”
“Don’t worry, darling. I’ll protect you from that monster,” she reassured me. “I won’t allow him to harm you.”
“Thank you, Mother. I can defend myself. I won’t let him harm me.”
I took a deep breath. “Mom, I need to tell you something bad. I killed someone.”
Mom was quiet for a long time. “You did what? Who did you kill? Why?”
“I killed him because he tried to hurt me at the club. He tried to force me.”
“Who was he? What pack was he from?”
“He’s an Alpha,” I replied. “Alpha Jason.”
Mom went completely quiet.
“Mom? Are you there?”
“Yes, I’m here. Jane, do you know what you did? You killed an Alpha. Your ex-mate will judge you. He might kill you. You’re my only child. I can’t lose you.”
“Mother, is it that serious?” I was scared, as she was frightening me.
My mom started crying. I had never heard her cry like this.
“I’m sorry, Mom. But if I didn’t kill him, he would have killed me.”
“I know, baby. I need to tell your father. Maybe he can help.”
“You can do as you wish, Mom. I will talk to you later.”
After talking to my mother, I kept thinking about what she told me. My mother seemed very frightened. Would I be killed? Would they hurt me because I was protecting myself from him?
I hated these damn werewolf rules. They only favored the strong, not the weak. No one would hunt him down if he killed me instead. I fucking hated it. I would never bow to the rules. My life, my rules.
“That’s right, girl,” Amber agreed. “Our life, our rules. I’ll never regret what you did. I’m incredibly proud of you.”
Suddenly, Ella and Amira ran into my room. They looked very scared.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Who’s chasing you?”
“Jane, we’re in big trouble,” Amira said, crying.
“What trouble?”
“They’re looking for you. Alpha Jason’s pack wants revenge. They want to kill you,” Ella said. “Blood for blood.”
“I regret taking you to the club. I’ve brought this upon you,” Amira lamented. “It’s my fault.” She was shaking, her body trembling on its own.
“Don’t cry. You’re not to blame, and I don’t regret killing him. He deserved it,” I uttered. “I’m only concerned about my family. Will it affect them?”
“You don’t understand, Jane,” Amira lamented. “Your mate will be the judge. He won’t favor you. You’ll be at his mercy. I caused this. None of this would’ve happened if I hadn’t taken you to the club.”
I hadn’t considered that I’d be at his mercy. How could I seek revenge when I was in trouble?
“We could eliminate them all,” my wolf suggested. “I have the power.”
“Let’s not resort to that. How many can we kill?” I stated. “Can we exterminate the entire werewolf race?”
“What’s our plan now?” Amira suggested. “Let’s inform my parents.”
I groaned, “Agreed.”
We headed to the Alpha’s office, where Luna and the beta were present.
“Why are you here, girls?” Luna asked.
“Father,” Amira began. “There’s something you need to know.”
The Alpha abandoned what he was doing and focused on us. “What is it, darling? You can confide in your father. I’m all ears.”
“Alpha,” I spoke up. “I killed someone.”
I noticed shock on their faces, particularly Luna’s.
“Who did you kill, Jane?” Luna questioned.
I started to feel anxious. Would it affect them too? I had considered them my family. They had treated me like their own since I arrived.
“I killed an Alpha,” I confessed.
“You did what?” the beta cried out. “Come again, Jane— you killed an Alpha?”
“Yes, I met Alpha Jason at the club, and he tried to force me to sleep with him. When I refused, he threatened my life,” I said quietly.
“He deserves to die. That bastard,” the Alpha slammed his desk. “You did the right thing, dear.”
“I’m scared,” I let out. “I’m so scared.”
“You are scared of what?” he demanded. “Why are you scared? Everyone knows he was a monster, and you did a great job by killing him. If you hadn’t killed him, you would have been the one to be killed. Don’t be scared, darling. I promise to protect you.”
“Come here, child.” My aunts hugged me. “I promise to protect you. You have nothing to be worried about. Every wolf member in the pack will protect you.”
I began to cry. The pack promised to protect me, while I was sure my father would hand me over to them to do whatever they liked with me. These people here would protect me.
“About the Alpha King,” the Alpha said. “We will explain how it happened to him. I know he is a reasonable man. He won’t judge you. You did a good thing.”
I guessed the Alpha never knew him well. That’s why he said he was reasonable. Who was reasonable? That piece of trash. I was worried he was going to sentence me to death along with my loved ones.
I smiled and thanked him.
“Is that why you’re worried? Don’t be worried about that. We got you,” the beta told me. “With me here, no one dares touch you.”
We left the Alpha’s office.
“Oh, my goddess. I was just worried about nothing,” Amira said.
“I will be able to eat now,” Ella announced. “Let’s get something to eat. I’m really hungry.”
We left the Alpha’s office for the kitchen.
“Nora, is there something we can eat?” Amira asked the head maid.
“My princess, my ladies,” she bowed. “Please sit. I will make some food for you.”
We took our seats and started chatting. Ella never stopped talking about her mate. She said he never allowed her to rest since he kept calling every minute.
“He’s so cute anytime he does that,” she blushed. “He told me he refused to tell the Alpha King about your whereabouts last night. I laughed when he told me he lied to him by saying that we were still at the club when we were already home. I like him already.”
No wonder he was unable to find me. Why was he looking for me? What did he want? Did he truly want me back?
“I think so,” Amber replied. “Parker told me he was wildly searching for me; he said he wanted us back after his beta told him about me. He wants us because of how powerful we have become.”
I knew it. I knew the Alpha King wanted something from me, and that was why he was searching for me. Was he in his right mind? Did he think I was going to accept him after he rejected me? He was full of himself.
“Don’t mind him. We won’t accept him no matter what,” Amber noted. “He didn’t deserve us. We only have to accept his rejection when next we see him and then start looking for our second-chance mate.”
“I agree with you, Wolffy. We will do just that.”
My ears hurt. Amber had no other topic to talk about except her mate.
“My ladies, the food is ready,” Nora announced.
“Thank you,” we said together before we began to eat.
“Mmm,” I grumbled. “It tastes good.”
“You can say that again,” Amira wailed. “It’s super delicious. Thank you, Nora, for making this delicious food.”
After we finished our food, we headed up to Amira’s room.
Ella never stopped talking about Raymond. I wished he were here to take her away.
“Can you stop talking about this mate of yours?” Amira yelled. “It’s so annoying, girl.”
I guessed I wasn’t the only one who found it annoying.
“What?” Ella suddenly screamed. “The Alpha King is on his way here.”
