Chapter 150: The Rise of a New Moon

Chapter 150: The Rise of a New Moon

Melissa’s POV

The world was different now.

Through the sounds of children dancing under the sky, the whispers of the wind, and the prayers carried on petals strewn across rivers, I witnessed it. I could feel everything, even if I was no longer a physical person.

The kind of peace that came with blood, sorrow, and too many farewells had returned.

The realms were one. Witches, vampires, fae, and wolves all came together to remember the fallen rather than to fight. To pay tribute to me. Their melodies rose with the moon, but I never wanted to be worshipped. "The Moon's Blessing Festival" was the name given to it.

And they used my name to light lanterns.

I wanted to reach out sometimes. I'm still here to say that. In a different way, though.

However, I had already decided. I went with love. and I had transformed into something less than human and more than a legend as a result. Something halfway.

I watched, though.

I saw the tranquillity grow. Slowly. With caution.

I also hoped.

Selene's hands glowed in the moonlight as she stood beneath the goddess tree's silvery limbs. She donned robes sewn by every race and clan as a sign of solidarity; once feared, she is now trusted.

She was not crowned.

"Melissa never wanted a throne," she added. All she desired was peace. In her honour, I shall construct that peace.

She presided over the newly formed supernatural council, and I observed. Not with force, but with equilibrium. Many pathways, one council, a variety of voices.

To her right, Zephyr was standing. Lydia is on her left.

She was pardoned by them. Not without difficulty. Not in a hurry. But really.

Even now, when no one was around, Selene still cried occasionally. I caught sight of her.

She would plant a single white flower and mutter, "I'm sorry, sister," as she passed the ancient shrine with our names engraved there, mine in brightness and hers in shadow. I'm still learning.

I also granted her my forgiveness. Again and again.

Because love does just that.

I was never forgotten by Kane.

He would ascend the cliff where we last touched once a month, at the full moon. His hair would get tangled in the wind. Like he could see me lurking beyond the stars, his look would dart over the sky.

During those visits, he remained silent.

He merely sat.

And between us, the stillness sang.

However, something changed tonight.

He had a lantern with him. He had a lovely, silver paper ribbon with my name printed on it in his hand.

Kneeling close to the brink, he whispered, "You know, I still feel you." "In the dreams. Throughout the storms. In the way the trees are illuminated.

The wind blew.

My spirit touched his face.

He shuddered.

"Kane," I said in a whisper. Only once.

He raised his head. Melissa?

His eyes welled up with tears.

"You remain here," he said, inhaling.

I was unable to touch him. I leaned in, though.

Always.

Like he could hold me again, he reached up into the air.

And above all else, I hoped that I could.

There was a new moon that night.

Not like any moon ever before.

It was a symbol of balance, shimmering with both gold and silver.

Selene called the kingdoms to watch as she held her palms up to the heavens.

On the precipice, Kane stood.

And I stood somewhere in the middle of eternity and remembrance.

I wasn't complete. Not as it was.

I wasn't gone, though.

A part of the divine that was no longer restricted to one realm had reawakened in me, something old.

The stars shuddered.

The worlds were swept by a warm breeze.

And a new voice murmured inside of me.

The dark deity, no.

The goddess, no.

However, something older. Deeper.

"This is just the beginning, not the end."

I smiled.

Since I thought it was true.

I then waited to see what would happen in the silence of the moon's breath and the starlight.
