Chapter 184
Freya
The driver's face showed genuine fear and distress as he continued his interview, painting a perfect picture of a victim who'd barely escaped disaster.
"This reporter is someone I arranged," I said quietly, my voice cutting through the stunned silence. "The driver's appearance fee? I covered that too."
Peter nodded approvingly, clapping his hands. "Well done!"
If I hadn't orchestrated this entire plan, Morgan Group would have been finished.
That's when Iris suddenly stood from the back row, pushing past seats with her eyes locked on Ben's back like a predator. Her hands were clenched tight in her jacket pockets.
"Iris," I said sharply, standing. "Come with me."
She froze behind Ben, who turned around startled to find her there.
"Out. Now," I commanded, my voice carrying Alpha authority.
She followed reluctantly, head down.
In the dim stairwell, two security guards rushed forward, quickly restraining Iris.
"Take out whatever's in your pockets!" one ordered.
Iris went pale, trembling. One guard twisted her arms while the other pulled out a sharp silver blade. The metal gleamed coldly.
Silver—the one weapon that could permanently scar our kind.
"You wanted to kill Ben?" I demanded. "Because of you, this company almost went bankrupt. Do you understand what that means for our pack?"
Iris stood frozen for a moment before lowering her head in shame. "Alpha Freya, I'm sorry!"
"Sorry doesn't fix anything," I snapped. "You're fired!"
"It's not fair!" Iris broke down completely.
Her voice echoed, triggering the motion sensor lights on the ceiling. The harsh fluorescent glow cast her face in even more tragic shadows.
"Alpha Freya, I worked so hard to get into Sean's research lab. I've spent my whole life fighting for this position. You can't just dismiss me so easily."
"I want to see Sean! I want to see Sean! You don't have the right to fire me. I belong to Sean—only he has the authority to make me leave!"
Iris refused to give up. Of course she wouldn't—once she left here, she truly would have nothing. Everything she'd worked for would be destroyed.
I responded, "You say Sean has the right to fire you, but you need to understand—because of you, he nearly became a global laughingstock."
As regret overwhelmed Iris, her heart surged with endless hatred.
She shouted, "Alpha Freya, Ben is the spy! He's working for Lekstar! This is all his fault! "
"I can leave, but before I go, I have to make him pay with his life! I can't just watch him get away with this! He has to face consequences!"
Iris's body shook violently as she cried out: "Alpha Freya, let me kill him! I have nothing left to lose anyway. At least let me do something for the company—eliminate this villain!"
I looked at her, my eyes filled with sympathy.
I sighed deeply. "You've done good work supporting Sean all these years. Before you leave the company, I'll give you money—compensation for your service. Enough to pay off your debts and find another job. As for everything else, don't mention it again. Live your own life well. If you destroy yourself over him, it's not worth it."
Without doubt, I was genuinely offering her a proper path forward.
Iris quieted down, hope lighting up her tear-filled eyes. She straightened up, her eyes brightening.
"Alpha Freya, I can help you kill Ben."
She wanted to repay my kindness.
I didn't turn around, only shook my head slightly and walked away from the stairwell.
Iris called after me. "Alpha Freya, are you really going to let this go? Aren't you angry? Don't you want revenge?"
I turned back to her: "Iris, I'll say it one more time—live your own life well."
Only by living successfully could one truly strike back at enemies.
I paused, then said lightly, "Besides, what makes you think he won't face consequences?"
I smiled softly.
Right—I was Freya Welch. How could I possibly let an enemy escape so easily?
"Iris, I've always been someone who repays every debt." With that, I truly left. The two guards escorted Iris out of the company.
When I returned to the conference room, my assistant approached with a report. "Alpha Freya, the interview room is ready, and all the reporters have arrived."
I nodded, beckoning to Sean, Peter, and several other executives. "Please come with me for a moment."
Then my gaze turned to Ben. "I need to speak with you later. Wait for me in the reception room in thirty minutes."
Ben had regained his composure, nodding calmly at me. He could guess why I wanted to talk privately.
But he wasn't afraid. Without evidence, he would deny everything.
The press conference was held in the reception room. I truthfully described everything that had happened at Morgan Group.
I remarked, "Actually, I didn't do much. The real hero is one of our employees. When Lekstar approached him, offering enormous incentives to steal company secrets, he refused. He came to me, confessed everything, and ultimately helped me plan our strategy. Without him, Morgan Group wouldn't have today's victory."
Everyone was stunned. There was actually someone like that in the company?
The reporters grew excited, pressing. "Alpha Freya, is this unnamed hero here today?"
Cameras swept across everyone's faces.
Peter looked at me in confusion.
I smiled playfully, then addressed the reporters. "This unnamed hero is right outside. I'll have my assistant bring him in."
Several cameras focused on the door.
My assistant opened it, stepping aside to usher Ben inside.
Ben was completely bewildered, slowly walking in. The reception room was full of people and cameras.
I stood and walked to the door, embracing Ben warmly. "This is the man I mentioned—Ben."
Cameras immediately captured Ben in close-up.
"I'm sorry," I interjected. "Ben has been cooperating with the investigation for several days without rest. Perhaps we can schedule the interview for next time."
My face wore a gentle smile.
But to Ben, though I smiled so warmly, my eyes were filled with cold, murderous intent.
The reporters didn't sense our subtle battle, didn't press further, offered Ben a few words of comfort, then ended the interview.
Throughout the entire exchange, Ben had no idea what was happening. His mind buzzed, completely unable to think clearly.
After the reporters left, Hugo finally exploded, slamming the table. "Freya, you and Ben conspired to fool us? No wonder Peter dared sign that agreement. You had this planned all along!"
He kicked over a chair, furious beyond measure.
I smiled lightly, looking directly at Hugo. "Ben and I didn't conspire together."
I continued, "This is the interview video from just now, Ben. Take a look."
I had the reporters' video displayed on the large screen.
I smiled, my expression lazy and confident. "I'll have the reporters post this interview online. Our pack will praise you, calling you a hero. But which pack do you really belong to?"
"When this video goes public, every wolf will know you betrayed your pack for money. There's no forgiveness for pack traitors. You should know that sometimes, pack justice is far more brutal than human law."
Ben stood rigidly for a long time, his face growing paler as the full weight of my words sank in. In the wolf world, being cast out from all packs was a fate worse than death.
Then he dropped to his knees before me with a thud.
