Chapter 45 You Vicious Woman
Seeing Jasper being dragged into adult matters again, I frowned slightly as a surge of anger rose within me.
I stepped forward, pulled Jasper over and wrapped him in my arms. "Don't drag the child into adult business."
Hearing me say this, Jasper hugged my leg and stayed silent.
But in Isla and Liliana's eyes, my action was deliberately going against them. I heard Isla demand, "Sophia, is this how you raise a child? What's wrong with the child wanting to stay with Liliana? Are you, as a mother, really not letting your child get close to the Thompson family? You need to know your child's last name is Thompson! This is the Thompson family's child! Not just yours alone!"
My expression darkened, my clear voice suppressing anger. "I haven't taught the child anything. You've repeatedly dragged the child into adult matters. What are you really up to?"
Liliana's voice was shrill. "Sophia, what are you saying? Why are you talking to Isla like that! Isn't she your mother-in-law?"
"Weren't you the one who started this? Kids don't have the ability to tell right from wrong. Jasper is kind-hearted, he'll like anyone he meets. You just want to use Jasper, don't you? Well, sorry, but Jasper is here to enjoy his childhood, not to be used by people."
At these words, Liliana's face looked terrible, and Isla's was equally unpleasant.
Tyler frowned. "That's enough, everyone! Jasper is still here!"
Gray also had a stern face. "This is Sophia and Tyler's home to begin with. What's the point of all this fuss about staying here? Liliana, Sophia and Tyler are married, they need their own space. When you get married later, would you want a relative living in your house?"
"I..." Liliana couldn't find words and could only glare at me viciously.
To prevent Jasper from being affected by the adults, I had a servant take Jasper back to his room first.
Watching this scene, Isla got even angrier. "Sophia, what do you mean by this? I feel like you're deliberately keeping Jasper from getting close to us. You keep saying it's for the child, but is this really for the child?"
I often felt that Isla's behavior didn't seem like that of a well-bred wealthy person at all - she had less class than ordinary townspeople.
"If that's what you think, then I have nothing more to say. You all talk, I'm going upstairs."
With that, I went upstairs without looking back.
Isla wanted to say something more, but Tyler stopped her. "Mom, that's enough. It was wrong of you to say these things in front of the child in the first place. Besides, why are you interfering in my and Sophia's home?"
Then Tyler scolded Liliana, "You just got back and you're already causing trouble? Do you want me to tell Mom and Dad about what you did abroad?"
Instantly, Liliana's face turned very ugly. She hurriedly gave Tyler meaningful looks.
Gray frowned. "What do you mean? What happened abroad?"
Liliana quickly said, "Nothing happened, it's just... just that I failed a few exams and the teacher criticized me. I was complaining to Tyler about it."
As she spoke, Liliana kept making faces at Tyler, signaling him not to say anything.
Tyler showed no expression, just said, "It's nothing. I'm going upstairs. You all talk."
Standing at the corner on the second floor, I witnessed all this and wondered what Liliana had done abroad. Why was she so scared?
But seeing Tyler about to come upstairs, I quickly tiptoed back to the room.
As expected, Tyler came looking for me.
I should have locked the door earlier.
"Don't take what just happened to heart. Mom and Dad just haven't seen Liliana in a long time," he explained to me.
I showed no expression. "It's fine. If they insist on staying here, I'll take Jasper and move out."
Hearing this, Tyler frowned. "Is it really that serious? Do you really not want Jasper to have contact with my parents?"
This made me want to laugh. Why didn't I want Jasper to have contact with them - wasn't Tyler the one who knew best?
Playing dumb with me?
"You know perfectly well."
"What do I know?"
I was too lazy to waste words with Tyler on things we both knew, so I said, "Liliana can stay temporarily, and as your mom said, this is your house. But I don't want to fight with them. I know they don't like me, but Jasper is here, and I don't want Jasper to experience these things."
When it came to Jasper, except for not listening to me about keeping Ava away from the child, Tyler would consider Jasper in other aspects.
"I understand what you mean. I'll talk to them later."
"I hope they'll listen to you. Also, your mom went to pick up Jasper a few days ago without telling me, and we almost got into a fight. From now on, I'll pick up Jasper. If I really have something going on, you can pick him up or let your mom pick him up - I have no problem with either."
Tyler's expression became serious, with severity hidden in his tone. "What exactly are you trying to do? Why are you being so extreme about picking up Jasper?"
I knew he wasn't happy with my decision, so I said directly, "It's because you all have close contact with Ava, because Jasper is about to call someone else mom. So this is my right as a mother. Fine, since you can't do it, from now on no matter how busy I am, I'll make time to pick up Jasper. I don't need any of you to pick him up."
The air around us seemed to freeze. In the oppressive silence, you could almost hear both our heartbeats. His brow was tightly furrowed, his gaze sharp as a sword, cutting through the calm.
After a moment, he spoke. "What could you possibly be busy with? I don't even know what you're busy with all day - busy chatting with Zachary? Why does he contact you about work? Even if you studied law, you haven't worked in so many years. Your abilities can't even compare to college students. I think he's just using work as an excuse because he has designs on you."
Hearing Tyler bring up Zachary again, the anger I'd been suppressing finally couldn't be held back anymore. It surged up fiercely.
"You're being completely unreasonable! Yes! In your eyes I can be as useless as you want, I can be trash! But don't drag Zachary into this! The issues between you and me have nothing to do with Zachary. Don't go making up imaginary enemies for yourself! It's disgusting! Also, your surveillance of me has already broken the law. Even though we're husband and wife right now, I have the right to hold you accountable. Don't forget you're keeping a mistress on the side! Push me far enough, and even if I die, I won't let you off easy!"
My words made Tyler's face darken like storm clouds before a downpour, so oppressive you couldn't breathe. His voice was low and powerful, each sentence like the warning of distant thunder.
"Sophia, you vicious woman. How did I never realize how vicious you were?"
Vicious...
My heart was already so numb with pain I felt nothing, so I laughed coldly. "Vicious? Yes, I'm vicious. Just hope you don't push me to show you my vicious methods!"
