Chapter 141 Her Weakness

Chapter 141 Her Weakness

When Wendy gave her name, Sophia's eyes lit up instantly.

She hurried over and sat down across from Wendy, so excited that her voice trembled. "You're really the Mitchell family's adopted daughter? You're not messing with me, are you?"

Of course, Sophia had heard of Wendy.

Within the same city's social circle, Wendy was practically the most elite socialite.

Since returning to the Brown family, Sophia had attended several galas but had never met Wendy in person.

Even so, she'd heard plenty of praise and envy directed her way!

Rumor had it that although Wendy was only the Mitchell family's adopted daughter, she was extremely favored—practically drowning in their affection. Countless girls in Sovereign City were dying to get close to her, to win her over.

To gain her favor was to elevate one's station an entire rung up the social ladder.

So all along, Sophia had dreamed of becoming friends with Wendy.

Unfortunately, for some reason, Wendy had suddenly vanished from the social scene a while back and stopped showing up at any events.

Sophia had been disappointed for ages, even tried digging up information about Wendy, but came up empty-handed.

She never expected to actually meet Wendy now!

But thinking it over, Sophia quickly figured out why Wendy had disappeared.

If she counted back, the timing matched perfectly with when Eleanor returned to the Mitchell family.

Eleanor's arrival must have squeezed Wendy out of her place in the Mitchell household.

Realizing this, Sophia's face took on a knowing expression.

Seeing that look, Wendy's brow furrowed, a flash of disgust crossing her eyes.

She'd always hated people looking at her with that self-satisfied, 'I see right through you' expression—like she was some pathetic thing.

Still, right now, she wasn't about to waste energy on Sophia's attitude.

Wendy spoke coldly, cutting straight to the point. "You know exactly why I asked you here. Since we both want the same thing, let's skip the small talk."

She lifted her chin slightly, her posture haughty. "I brought you here to deal with Eleanor. I despise her just as much as you do. Since we have a common goal, why not join forces?"

Hearing this, Sophia nodded eagerly. "That's perfect! Ms. Mitchell, if you'd told me this sooner, we could've started working together ages ago."

As she spoke, she couldn't help fawning over Wendy, her tone dripping with flattery. "Since Eleanor came back to the Mitchell family, things must've been rough for you, right? If you ask me, the Mitchells have no taste—choosing that trashy Eleanor over a carefully groomed heiress like you."

"The Mitchell family should just throw her out and never let her set foot in Sovereign City again!"

As Wendy listened, her expression grew colder and colder.

She had zero interest in hearing someone inferior to her in every way pass judgment on her life.

Who did Sophia think she was, pitying her?

"Enough of that."

Wendy cut her off sharply. "What matters right now is figuring out how to deal with Eleanor. That's why we're sitting here."

She fixed Sophia with a piercing gaze. "Eleanor lived with the Brown family for over a decade. You must know more about her weaknesses than I do."

"So—do you have any ideas?"

Sophia lowered her head, thinking seriously for a moment.

When she looked up again, hatred churned in her eyes as she smiled coldly.

"Actually, I do."

Sophia spoke through gritted teeth, each word deliberate. "What Eleanor cares about most is her grandmother."

Mentioning Nova, Sophia's face filled with contempt. "She's not even part of the Brown family, but who knows what act she's putting on—always keeping that old woman in her heart, running off to the assisted living center every few days."

"Let's be real, she's just after the old hag's inheritance. That woman holds thirty percent of the Brown family's shares—of course Eleanor's got her eye on them."

"But still..."

Sophia's tone shifted, taking on a vicious edge. "I can tell she does genuinely care about the old woman to some degree. If something were to happen to her, Eleanor would completely fall apart."

"When that happens, she won't have the headspace to fight us anymore."

Wendy froze for a second, then couldn't help letting out a contemptuous laugh.

"That's your own grandmother, and you don't care about her at all?"

A look of disgust crossed Sophia's face.

"That old woman has never liked me!"

"I'm the actual Brown family granddaughter, but no—she only has eyes for that trash, Eleanor. Every time I visit her, she puts on this cold face and can't even be bothered to talk to me!"

Sophia's anger built with every word, venom practically spilling from her eyes. "I'm not in the habit of throwing myself at someone who couldn't care less. If she doesn't treat me like her granddaughter, why should I treat her like my grandmother? Whether she lives or dies has nothing to do with me!"

Wendy raised an eyebrow slightly.

She hadn't expected Sophia to be just as vicious and cold-blooded as herself.

In a way, they really were cut from the same cloth.

Selfish, greedy, willing to do whatever it took to get what they wanted.

As long as she got what she was after, anyone could be sacrificed—even so-called family.

Still, that didn't make Wendy respect Sophia any more.

She just figured that working with someone like this meant she wouldn't be held back.

"Since you don't care what happens to your grandmother, then I'm going to make my move." Wendy's tone was casual, but carried an icy undertone.

Sophia waved her hand dismissively. "Ms. Mitchell can do whatever she wants. No need to worry about me. Even if the old woman dies, it'll just mean her luck ran out. After all... I've never had any obligation to grieve for someone who doesn't like me."

Wendy nodded, then stood up and picked up her handbag from the side.

"That's settled, then. Go home and wait for word. I'll contact you if I need you."

Seeing this, Sophia quickly stood up as well.

With a fawning smile plastered on her face, she carefully extended her hand toward Wendy. "So Ms. Mitchell, does this mean... we're friends now?"

Wendy glanced down at the outstretched hand and smirked with contempt.

"Friends? Hardly. Right now we're just partners. If we actually manage to take Eleanor down, then we can talk about friendship."

With that, she picked up her bag and walked away without looking back.

Sophia's hand hung frozen in midair.

She watched Wendy disappear down the hallway, her fawning expression instantly replaced by irritation.

"How dare she!"

Sophia muttered bitterly under her breath. "She's just the Mitchell family's adopted daughter, and she really thinks she's somebody special? At the end of the day, she's no different from me—both of us are pathetic things humiliated by Eleanor!"

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. She kicked the arm of the sofa beside her, then winced at the pain shooting through her foot.

But angry as she was, Sophia knew she had to keep it together.

Right now, Wendy was her only lifeline.

As long as she could team up with Wendy to bring Eleanor down, she'd be able to make a comeback.

When that happened, no one would dare give her attitude again.

Sophia took a deep breath, forcing down her anger. She grabbed her bag, turned, and left the private room.

That same afternoon, Wendy drove alone to Sunrise Assisted Living Center, where Nova was staying.

She parked her car outside the entrance but didn't get out right away.

Nova and Ava were at the same facility!

Wendy let out a cold laugh.

Eleanor must have been scheming to get close to Raymond from the very start.

Her manipulation ran deep.

Thinking of this, the coldness in Wendy's eyes intensified.

If that was the case, there was no way she'd let Eleanor off the hook.
