Chapter 138 I Want to Examine the Entire Body
Chapter 138 I Want to Examine the Entire Body
Black Claws watched her, utterly devastated, and felt a dull ache in his chest.
He knew Eleanor must be in more pain right now than anyone.
But clearly, she had already made her decision.
"Boss, what do you plan to do next?" Black Claws asked in a low voice.
Eleanor slowly lifted her eyes.
The grief from moments ago had vanished, leaving only icy coldness.
"Spread the word. From today on, the Nightingale Syndicate and Jagger are mortal enemies. Any organization, any person who dares provide Jagger with help will be considered an enemy of the Nightingale and will be shown no mercy!"
As her words fell, Black Claws's pupils contracted sharply.
The Syndicate Kill Order!
This was the organization's highest-level execution order since its founding.
The last time the Syndicate Kill Order had been activated was years ago, when a foreign force attempted to steal core data from the lab and staged a terrorist attack.
Within three days of issuing the order, they had completely erased that force from Galaxy District—not a single survivor left.
Since then, the Syndicate Kill Order had never been used again.
Black Claws knew this situation wouldn't end well, but he hadn't expected Eleanor to be this ruthless.
Yet his shock lasted only a moment.
Immediately, Black Claws dropped to one knee, his expression solemn. "Yes! Whatever Boss wants to do, I'll give it everything I have!"
Soon, everyone began cleaning up.
Eleanor turned and walked out, wanting to be alone for a while.
Raymond looked worried and started to follow her.
Suddenly, a cool voice came from behind.
"Mr. Carter."
Raymond stopped and turned around.
Black Claws stood not far away, his usually stern face showing something almost like gratitude.
"About tonight..."
Black Claws cleared his throat, as if unaccustomed to saying such things. "Thank you. If you hadn't arrived in time, Boss might have been in real danger."
Raymond was slightly stunned.
Then he laughed.
"Why thank me? I told you before—for Eleanor, I'd give anything."
He glanced past Black Claws toward where Eleanor had disappeared. "Besides, everything we're doing is for the same person."
"So Black Claws, you don't need to thank me. If anything, I should thank you for trusting me enough to call when Eleanor was in danger."
Black Claws's expression became somewhat dazed.
Right... when had he started trusting Raymond?
Perhaps it was seeing his genuine feelings for Eleanor.
After a long moment, Black Claws said quietly, "Mr. Carter, take good care of her."
Raymond nodded solemnly.
"I will. I swear it on my life."
With that, he left.
Outside, Eleanor had already gotten in the car.
She was leaning back in her seat with her eyes closed, as if asleep.
But her brow was furrowed and her lashes trembled lightly—clearly not resting peacefully.
Raymond didn't say anything. He started the car and slowly drove away from the cold, dark woods...
The entire drive passed in silence.
After some time, Eleanor felt the car stop.
She drowsily opened her eyes to find them parked in front of a white building.
A hospital.
"Why are we here?" She looked at Raymond, confused.
Raymond opened the car door and held out his hand. "You're injured."
Eleanor shook her head. "It's just minor. I don't need a hospital."
"Minor injuries still need treatment." Raymond remained insistent.
Eleanor sat in the car, locked in a stalemate with him for a while, before finally letting out a long sigh.
"I'm really fine!"
Seeing her persistence, Raymond stopped pushing.
He suddenly leaned down and said softly, "Eleanor, if you don't want to go in, I can take you home right now."
"However..."
A smile flickered in his eyes. "Once we're home, I'll treat your wounds myself. And when I do, I'll need to check your entire body."
Eleanor whipped her head around, staring at him in disbelief.
"You... what did you just say?"
Raymond raised an eyebrow, his expression innocent. "I said I need to check your entire body. What if you're hiding injuries somewhere and won't tell me? Of course I have to examine you thoroughly. How else can I be sure you're okay?"
He spoke casually, but his eyes gleamed with obvious amusement.
Eleanor's cheeks instantly flushed red.
"Raymond!"
She gritted her teeth. "Are you threatening me?"
Raymond didn't deny it. He simply held out his hand again. "So, do you want to go in, or go home?"
Eleanor glared at him fiercely, but eventually, reluctantly placed her hand in his palm.
Raymond's lips curved upward. He gripped her hand and led her into the hospital.
In the ER, the on-duty doctor was a middle-aged woman in her forties wearing gold-rimmed glasses. She looked gentle and kind.
She had Eleanor sit in a chair and carefully examined the injuries on her arm and shoulder.
Fortunately, they were all superficial wounds. Though they looked alarming, nothing had damaged the bone.
As the doctor treated Eleanor's wounds, she couldn't help commenting, "Honey, how did this happen? These bruises are huge—looks like you got in a fight."
Eleanor said nothing.
Raymond, standing nearby, remained equally silent.
The doctor glanced at Raymond and noticed he was injured too.
Instantly, her expression grew meaningful...
She sighed helplessly. "It's normal for couples to argue, but don't get physical. Whatever the problem is, can't you talk it out instead of letting it get this bad?"
Both Raymond and Eleanor froze.
Seeing their silence, the doctor turned to lecture Raymond. "Young man, your girlfriend is so beautiful—you should treasure her. How can a grown man raise his hand to a woman?"
Raymond opened his mouth to explain.
But the doctor didn't give him a chance. She turned to Eleanor instead. "Sweetheart, don't just put up with him. If he's really hurting you, call the police. You can't just keep taking it."
Eleanor couldn't help but laugh softly.
Raymond looked at her helplessly, only to meet her smiling eyes.
They held each other's gaze for a moment, then both burst out laughing.
After her wounds were treated, they left the hospital.
As Raymond started the car, he asked, "You've been through hell tonight—you must be starving. Want me to take you somewhere to eat?"
Eleanor didn't refuse.
Actually, she wasn't hungry. More accurately, she had no appetite.
But she also knew better.
Now was not the time for self-pity!
Jagger could appear at any moment. She couldn't let her guard down for a second.
She had to maintain her best condition to handle whatever came next.
So even without an appetite, she had to eat.
The car drove through the night. Half an hour later, it stopped beneath a luxury apartment building.
Eleanor was somewhat surprised. "Where is this?"
"My place."
Raymond parked and opened her door. "It's close to the office. I stay here sometimes."
Eleanor followed him upstairs.
When they entered, the apartment's décor was simple yet elegant—black, white, and gray tones throughout, everywhere reflecting the owner's cool, restrained taste.
Eleanor looked around, then couldn't help asking, "Didn't you say you were taking me to eat? What food could possibly be here?"
