Chapter 268 There Is Another Surprise for You

The man shuddered and quickly nodded his head like a pecking chicken, "No problem, no problem! I'll do whatever Ms. Montgomery says! Whatever you tell me to do, I'll do it. I wouldn't dare say a word out of line!"

After speaking, he couldn't help but rub his numb, bound wrists. He carefully lifted his eyelids and cautiously asked a question.

"But Ms. Montgomery, there's something I don't quite understand. Why won't you let him come back to the country for the transaction? Trading abroad has too many variables, and you won't be able to control the situation as well. If you made him come back home, you could just grab him directly. Wouldn't that be easier?"

Catherine turned her head and looked at him with the kind of look you'd give an idiot. She stared at him until his scalp tingled and his back went cold before slowly speaking.

"Let him come back home, and then what? The moment he lands, he'll realize that Yvonne is in your hands, the shares are in your hands, even the transaction location was set by you - from start to finish, the Montgomery family is controlling everything. Do you think Tobias is stupid enough not to have even that much awareness? He's afraid of me, but what he fears is the evidence and methods I have, not some border he doesn't even need to cross. Once you make him come back for the transaction, he'll immediately suspect it's a trap, and then he won't even answer your calls anymore. Mark my words."

The man shivered and waved his hands repeatedly, "Ms. Montgomery, you're so smart! I absolutely didn't mean anything by it! I was just asking casually, please don't take it to heart!"

Catherine didn't waste any more words on him. She stood up and walked toward the door, throwing an instruction to the bodyguard without looking back, "Keep an eye on him. Confiscate all communication devices. No one is allowed to contact him. Make him stay here quietly and not cause trouble for himself or for me."

A string of oaths and promises immediately came from behind her.

Catherine didn't look back and pushed open the warehouse door to walk out.

Outside, it had started raining at some point - not heavy, but the fine rain threads wove densely into a gray net, shrouding the entire suburban area in misty moisture.

She looked up at the sky, about to hurry to the car, when suddenly it darkened above her head.

A black long-handled umbrella appeared from somewhere, steadily held over her head, blocking the fine rain.

She turned her head and found Charles standing behind her.

"It's raining. I was worried you'd get wet, so I came."

Catherine blinked, and the corners of her mouth couldn't help but lift slightly.

Charles was confused by her smile and looked down at himself.

Buttons were done up correctly, zipper wasn't forgotten, and there shouldn't be anything on his face either.

He looked up, asking suspiciously, "What are you laughing at?"

Catherine put her hands behind her back and tilted her head to look at him.

"You're not worried about me getting wet. You're worried that I'd get busy and forget about the engagement again, so you specially came over to remind me, right?"

Charles froze for a second, then his ears visibly turned pink.

He turned his face away and coughed lightly, smiling helplessly.

"Can't hide anything from you. Since you've figured me out, I'll just say it - I picked a venue, a really, really good one, and I want you to see it. Are you free now? You're not going back to the company again, are you?"

Catherine looked at him, clearly nervous but trying to act casual, and her smile spread from her lips to her eyes.

She reached out to link her arm through his, leaning closer under his umbrella, her tone carrying a rare hint of playfulness.

"Let's go. The rest of today is all yours."

The car drove through the rain and entered the street in the old downtown district lined with French plane trees.

Catherine had originally thought he would choose one of those top-tier luxury hotels in Starlight City. After all, with the Davis Group's resources, booking out any luxury hotel ballroom would be no problem.

But the car slowly stopped in front of an old-style building - a castle from the last century, though it had clearly been renovated in advance, with the exterior walls looking quite fresh.

The greeters at the entrance had already been notified. Seeing the two get out of the car, they immediately came forward with umbrellas, respectfully calling out "Mr. Davis, Ms. Montgomery," then pushed open the door and made a welcoming gesture.

Catherine stepped over the threshold and her footsteps involuntarily stopped.

The entire hall had been decorated in advance.

Charles hadn't chosen any ready-made ballroom, but had the place completely renovated from top to bottom according to her vision.

The original hall partitions had all been removed, making the space much more open. The dome retained the ornate plaster moldings of the old building, with those time-worn patterns carefully restored by craftsmen and re-traced with gold leaf.

Catherine was somewhat surprised, "You - you're planning to have it here?"

"Ready-made ballrooms are nice, but I felt that wouldn't show how much I care," Charles said with a smile.

"So I thought, why not start from scratch and do every brick and tile the way you like it. This place isn't far from Ravenwood Estate, just a ten-minute drive, so it's convenient for guests to come and go. Plus this street is quiet at night, so it won't disturb you."

Catherine turned to look at him, her eyes slightly misty, but her words were still sharp, "Charles, you put in so much effort and spent so much money - that's really going overboard."

"Spending on you isn't going overboard." He reached out to pull her into his arms, lowering his head to place a gentle kiss on her forehead.

"From now on, whatever you like, I'll do my best to bring it to you. You like this castle, so I'll turn it into what you want. Whatever you like, I'll give you, as long as it makes you happy."

Catherine buried her face in his chest, "If you keep this up, you're going to spoil me rotten."

Charles smiled and released her. Suddenly, as if remembering something, he took her hand and headed toward the corridor on the side of the hall.

"Almost forgot, I prepared a surprise for you. Come with me."

He led her through the corridor and stopped in front of a carved oak door. He reached out to push it open, then stepped aside to let her enter first.

Catherine walked through the door. Her gaze swept casually around, and she froze in place.
