“Hazel where the fuck are you!”
Hazel jerked awake and jumped quickly from her warm bed as the words of her husband came into her mind. They were as clear as glass and ripped at her gut. They sounded pained and hateful. She could feel the sense of grief wash over her and knew that her mate was in pain.
She climbed back into bed and pulled the warm down comforter up over her head and began to cry. She cried for herself for being so foolish and careless with her heart and body. For bringing life into such a fucked up situation. How could she ever live with him? Or was he going to live with his chosen mate? Or would he want both. It’s not uncommon for harems for their kind. But, she could never bear to share Rhett with another woman. And she definitely wasn't going to share her child with another woman.
She cried for Rhett because she could feel his anguish. He must be riddled with worry over his baby. His heir. As angry as she was with him, she ached for him. Her body longed to feel his touch again. Her baby longed to be in the presence of it's father. She wanted to ease his pain and worry, but she also wanted to rip his heart out. Love can be complicated like that.
She had never had any psychic abilities until now. They were always dormant, buried deep inside and waiting. Maybe it was the bond that she now shared with Rhett. His alpha DNA strengthening her weaker cells. Hazel placed her hand on her lower abdomen and felt the faint heartbeat pulsing through her fingertips. She gasped and put her hand over her mouth and began to sob. She knew it was time to go home and face whatever was going to happen. Her baby, her little alpha, demanded it.
After breakfast that morning, Hazel gave the ok for Stella to call her husband and tell him she was on her way back to him.
As Stella left the table, Teddy spoke. “So I’ve been thinking about your situation Hazel. Do you mind if I give you some advice?” asked Teddy.
“Please,” said Hazel
”You know I thought back about my sister, when she first met her husbands. There was a lot of drama. A lot of bumps in the road. Tessa was a strong witch, a strong woman. She knew her value in this world. So when her husbands inevitably fucked up, she punished them accordingly. She had once been a runner too, until the day she had enough. She decided to stand her ground with them and with the pack. My point is Hazel. You’re a fucking witch. A Parker. One of the oldest lines in all witchcraft. You’re the heir of Daniel the fucking Darke for Christ’s sake. You’re not some weakling. Your blood is every bit as strong and precious as that Alpha you're married to, if not more so. So be like Tessa. Don’t take any shit off your mate. Rule him like the badass Princess that you are. Just don’t forget that he’s the King. You can make him miserable privately but running off like this damages his reputation with his pack. Ultimately it weakens it and endangers you and that baby your carrying. That is unacceptable.”
“So I’m just supposed to accept all this?” she asked.
“You’re not helpless Hazel. You’re husband is bound to you through that love bite. Addicted physically and mentally to you. Use that to your advantage if you catch my drift. You know for a witch, you have a lot to learn. We’re cruel and manipulative creatures. It’s just who we are, don’t be ashamed of it. We love a bit of well earned revenge. So what I’m saying is, make him pay for his transgressions in a suitable way. My Tessa once deprived her husband of his needs for almost three months. He was eating out of the palm of her hand before it was over. Killed hundreds of people just to please her. Pussy is a powerful weapon.”
Hazel nearly spit out the coffee she just drank. She swallowed and then began to laugh hysterically. “Oh you’re just too much Teddy.”
“Yes, yes I am,” he said. “It’s not easy marrying into this pack life. They’re just not like us and obviously we aren’t like them. But, that doesn’t mean it can’t be a good match. Fate chose him for you for a reason. You complete some part of him as he does you. Find out what that is dear. That is the key to your happiness.”
“What was it for you and Stella?” Hazel asked.
Teddy smiled and said, “I had been a particularly whorish witch, I admit. Was hustling older, powerful human women for easy jobs that let me travel around the world when I was passing through town here and ran into Stella. But when Stella and I locked eyes, it was like there was no other woman in the world. I saw in her eyes everything I had missed my entire life. A family. Stability.” he looked around the room. “I fell in love with all this as much as I did Stella. A warm home at Christmas time. Children. Picnics. All the things I didn’t think I ever wanted until she showed me I did.”
Hazel teared up and nodded. “Rhett he’s amazed by me. I see it in his eyes when he looks at me. It’s like I’m the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. He looks at me like I’m a miracle. That’s why all this hurts so much. I just don’t understand any of it. I don’t understand why this is happening.”
Teddy said, “ Maybe he had dated this woman before he met you and always being by your side, he just hadn't dealt with it yet. Or maybe this whole thing is just some big misunderstanding. Ask him, Hazel. At least hear him out.”
Hazel nodded then swallowed back her tears and wiped her face as Stella came back.
“I told Rhett that I was sending you back. He wanted to come get you but I figured you could use the drive back to think so I told him you already left. You should get going before he comes looking for you.”
“Thank you madam,” said Hazel. "Thank you both for everything."
Hazel went back to her room and packed up her things then left the house. She rubbed her belly as she walked to her car and got in. Hazel took Teddy’s words to heart. All of them. She was stuck with Rhett now for better or worse. She needed to learn how to survive life in his pack, life with him. If he wanted to make her look foolish, to have other women, she was going to make him pay for it.
Hazel started her car and drove away from the farmhouse. She was feeling stronger. Wiser.
