Going On A Trip

Hazel wasn’t sure how far Rhett’s territory extended, but once she got to Virginia she stopped for the night. She was exhausted. There was a fairly decent hotel along the interstate so she checked in and had a bath.

Hazel flipped through the television channels and settled on a comedy. She could definitely use some laughs right now.

She was starving but the thought of eating anything made her stomach turn. Damn it Rhett! Why had the Fates been so cruel to her? Hazel got up from bed, went to the window and looked out into the darkness. She should be home in bed with Rhett’s arms around her. The thought of it made her eyes tear and her throat burn. As the pain in her chest grew, she shut her eyes and looked away from the window. She fell into the chair in the corner and began to sob.

The people of this world have no honor. She was sure that she had made a mistake coming to Earth. That was easy enough to rectify.

Hazel wasn’t able to travel between worlds on her own though. She’d need Haldir. She hoped he would be in Savannah when she got there.

When Rhett was able to get the women out of his house, he was able to calm down and think.

His mother was always putting her nose where it didn’t belong. Always causing him problems. And Tammy was no one. Just one of the many she-wolves that his mother tried to set him up with.

Rhett had never really been with anyone seriously, although he had been no angel. But, he’s never been with a member of his own pack. That was just asking for trouble and Rhett wasn’t a man who liked drama from women. When he finds Hazel, he was going to teach her to be more obedient. He told her not to leave the house without permission. He wasn’t doing it to be an ass.

Rhett called James and told him to call the Order in Savannah and find out about her safeouse there and to get a trace put on Hazel’s phone. If it was still on, he should be able to locate her.

Over the past couple of days he had been noticing a change in Hazel’s smell. He suspected she was pregnant and even bought a pregnancy test that day. He needed to find her as soon as possible. She wasn’t much better off than a human out there really. The world is a dangerous place and there was nothing Rhett could do about it until she was back in his arms again.

Rhett’s phone rang and he answered. James said, “Hey we spoke to the Order and they haven’t heard anything but said they would let us know if she shows up. And her phones no good. Its either off or somewhere with no service.”

“Shit thanks. I want them to rerun that locator every couple of hours. She’s got to drive through a good spot eventually. And alert the friendly surrounding packs.”

“Will do, Don’t worry Rhett. We’ll find her.”

Rhett stood by his window and stared at the roundhouse thinking about his little princess. Out there in the world defenseless, scared and angry. He wanted to go out and patrol the area looking for her but he wanted to stay home in case she changed her mind and came back. He picked his phone up from the coffee table and tried to call her again but it just went straight to voicemail.

There was no sleep that night for Rhett. Every time he dozed off, he would jerk awake thinking he heard a phone ringing until around 3am, then it finally did.

“Rhett?”

“Yeah what’s going on?” His heart pounded.

“Her phone was located near a small town in Virginia. We alerted the Hexom’s. They’re sending patrols out to look for her.”

“Jesus! Thanks. Keep me updated.”

The Hexom family ran the Blue Ridge Mountain pack. That meant Hazel hadn’t gone very far yet. They were the next territory south. They were a strong pack with a good, fair alpha. It was led by Stella Mason and her husband Teddy.

Stella had taken over after her brother, Logan Hexom, abruptly disappeared several years ago. Her husband had been Logan’s Beta and he was a witch out of Savannah.

It couldn’t be a coincidence that Hazel was there.

After a long night of little sleep, Hazel finally gave up on it and decided to get something to eat and hit the road again.

She dressed and packed her things away then left the hotel. When she opened her car door she heard a voice say ,”Gotcha.”

A hand suddenly covered her mouth and an arm went around her waist. The strong arm pulled her backwards away from her car and into the back seat of another as she struggled against it. It was no use though, she’s just too weak.

“I’m not going to hurt you Hazel,” her abductor said as the driver sped away.

Hazel trembled with fear as she cowered in the corner of the backseat. Her abductor was a tall, thin man with dark curly hair, olive skin and piercing green eyes. He had a smooth Southern accent that sounded pretty good coming from such a handsome face. For a kidnapping bastard, he was hot.

“Don’t be afraid Hazel. I’m Teddy Mason of the Blue Ridge Mountain Pack.Your husband’s been worried sick about you. That was a pretty naughty thing to do, running away like that,” Teddy said as he wiped the blood away from his arm where Hazel had scratched him.

“Right. Worried sick is he?” Hazel said sarcastically as she relaxed a little and sat up straight in her seat.

“Oh British huh?”

Hazel wasn’t in the mood for lying. She was tired, hungry and beginning to feel sick. She stared out the window and watched the acres of meadows and orchards farms pass by outside.

“No. I’m not a goddamned Brit. I’m from the other realm.”

Teddy looked at her and smiled. “Oh do you know Tessa then?”

Hazel turned back towards Teddy and asked , “Tessa Hexom?”

Teddy’s smile got bigger. “Yes, well it used to be Tessa Mason, she’s my sister.”

Hazel laughed out, “Of course I know her. I’m Eliza’s cousin.” Tessa was Logan Hexom’s wife and Teddy’s twin sister. She had gone to the other realm a few years ago with her husband after she had nearly died from an assassination attempt.

Eliza Hexom, used to be Eliza Parker. She was married to Tessa’s son and her mother was Hazel’s auntie.

So, Hazel’s cousin ,Eliza, was married to Teddy’s nephew. Hazel’s kidnapper turned out to be her relative.

Something else occurred to Hazel. She had heard Teddy’s name before. He and Tessa were Haldir’s children. Just the man she needed to see. Hazel thought it funny how Fate puts the right people in your path at the right time, or the wrong one in the case of Rhett.

Small world.
