My bed is large enough for two people
Carissa let out a low, annoyed sound as she pushed her hair back with a rough hand. The room felt unbearably hot, and she could not stand it any longer. She rose from her seat, picked up her laptop, and headed toward the living room. Before stepping out, she shot a long look at the air conditioner in her room, her eyes narrowing with irritation because it had stopped working at the worst possible time.
She entered the living room and moved straight toward the space in front of the television. She placed her laptop carefully on the table, then lowered herself to sit on the floor, leaving the sofa untouched behind her. She did not turn the television on because she wanted quiet. She knew that if the television was running, her attention would scatter and she would not finish her assignment.
After some time, her hands paused above the keyboard. Her gaze drifted toward Leon’s room. The door remained closed, and the lights were off. He was still not home. Carissa exhaled slowly when she checked the time and saw that it was already ten at night, yet there was still no sign of him returning.
She lifted her hand and ran it through her hair in frustration. Why was she even thinking about him? Her assignment, which was due the next morning, mattered far more than anything else.
“Focus, Carissa,” she told herself while tapping the table lightly, as though the sound could bring her attention back.
She had barely resumed working when the loud sound of a car engine broke the quiet outside. Carissa clicked her tongue in annoyance because she already knew what it meant. He had returned.
The car door slammed shut, and the sound reached her clearly. In her mind, she began counting down from five. At the final count, the flat door opened with a creak, and moments later Leon’s voice filled the room.
“Car, why are you still awake? Were you waiting for me?”
Carissa let out a small scoff and replied without turning to face him. “Do not assume things that are not true. I am working out here because my AC is not working, and my room is too hot.”
Leon gave a slight nod, though she did not see it. He did not respond right away. Instead, he walked into his room, switched on the light, and placed his bag and jacket carelessly on the bed. After that, he returned and stopped behind her.
“You should sit on the sofa instead of the floor. You might fall sick,” he said as he took a seat on the sofa and looked at her back.
Carissa ignored him completely and continued working without replying or moving.
Leon stood up again and went back into his room. The sound of the air conditioner turning on followed soon after. From the doorway, he spoke again while leaning against the frame and undoing the buttons of his shirt one by one. “Will you be long with your work? Do you want to continue inside my room?”
Carissa glanced up from her laptop, and the moment her eyes landed on him, she quickly turned her face away. He had removed his shirt, leaving only a sleeveless inner shirt that revealed his arms and shoulders clearly. She swallowed and forced her thoughts to move away from the sight.
She shook her head slightly and said, “No need, sir. I will be done soon.”
Leon responded with a small nod and did not insist further. “Alright then. I will take a shower first,” he said before walking toward the bathroom with a white towel resting over his shoulder.
Once he disappeared from view, Carissa finally let out a long breath. The way he had casually removed his shirt made it seem almost intentional, as though he knew exactly what reaction it would cause in her. It irritated her that her eyes had reacted at all.
Leon stepped out of the bathroom later, humming softly while drying his wet hair with the towel. He paused when he noticed Carissa still working on her laptop.
“It is late, Car. You should finish this tomorrow and get some sleep,” he said as he sat down on the sofa again.
His eyes briefly moved toward her screen, and he confirmed that she was still typing.
“Have you ever seen me sleep this early?” Carissa replied without stopping her work.
Leon placed his hand on his forehead and let out a small groan. He had forgotten that Carissa never followed normal sleeping hours. For her, night and day were almost reversed.
“It does not make sense for me to go to bed now. I would not be able to sleep anyway,” she added.
Leon remained quiet for a moment before asking, “Since when have you had trouble sleeping at night?”
Carissa’s fingers stopped moving across the keyboard. A faint, bitter smile appeared on her lips as she answered.
“Since I found out that someone used to enter my room at night without telling me,” she said, her voice losing its usual strength.
Leon closed his mouth, realizing he had touched on something he should have avoided. Without saying anything further, he reached forward, took her laptop, pressed a few keys, and then shut it.
“I have saved your work. You can continue tomorrow morning. Now you should sleep.”
He placed his hands on her shoulders and gently guided her to stand. With a slight turn, he faced her toward him. His movements were controlled and careful, not rough, yet they still caught her off guard.
“From now on, try to sleep before ten. Staying up like this is not good for you. It will affect you over time,” he said, his tone carrying concern. His hand moved up and tucked her hair behind her ear.
“If you want to sleep, then go ahead. I will sleep here. My room is too hot,” Carissa said, reminding him again about the broken air conditioner.
“I will call someone to fix it in the morning,” he replied without delay. Then he paused briefly as if considering something.
“For tonight, you can sleep in my room.”
Carissa’s eyes widened immediately, and she just stared at him without saying anything.
He was asking her so easily, as though it meant nothing. It made her wonder if he had done this many times before with other women.
“Then where will you sleep?” she asked.
Leon lifted one eyebrow slightly. “My bed is large enough for two people,” he answered in a casual tone, showing no hint of concern.
Carissa straightened her posture and gathered her thoughts, determined not to give in. She knew she had to refuse him without hesitation.
