CHAPTER 251
Thank you, Milly.
MILLY

“I am excited for your Prom.” Rose beams at us the next weekend.

I glance at my best friends and smile at her. “Why are you so excited though?”

“Charlie is still a girl, and Romeo is a boy.” She grumbles, shaking her head in disapproval.

“Hey! You had me.” Romeo chides from the kitchen.

“And I love you very much, but you never play dress-ups with me again.” She gives him a look.

“Wait, again? He used to play dress-up?” Darcy asks, eyes twinkling with delight.

“No.” He blurts as his mom chuckles, “Oh, a lot. Would you like to see pictures?”

“Definitely.” Pandora jumps up, and Romeo groans, “Mom, don’t.”

Rose ignores him and rushes upstairs. I glance at my boyfriend. He is making us salad. “I want to see you as a cute little boy.”

He softens, and I walk to him. I press a kiss to his shoulder, and try to help, but he shoves me away softly.

“Found it,” Rose announces, and Pandora lights up like a Christmas tree. She sits on her right, while Darcy sits on her left. I grab Romeo’s arm, and pull him to the couch. I exhale softly, staring at the pictures from six-month-olds. With every page she flips, his face changes; he is a combination of his family, looking like Rose, Finn, and his siblings. How did Rose have the same children four times?

“We were home alone a lot.” She whispers fondly. “It put a strain on our marriage. Finn hated leaving us behind, but I understood that he needed to work. He wanted us to have more than enough. We both knew what it meant to struggle, and when he got lucky enough to find what worked, we couldn’t risk losing it. It was Romeo and I for a long time. He was my sweet boy.” Her voice trembles.

I step out of the way so he can go to his mom. He presses a kiss to her forehead, and my heart warms.

“Florence had Kai at the same time, so they grew up as brothers. I am glad they are friends again. We couldn’t figure out why they stopped hanging out.” She frowns, staring at a picture of her sister and Kai. She glances at me and takes my hand. “Thank you, Milly.”

My eyes widen, and my cheeks heat. “I didn’t do anything.”

“Here’s our little fashionista.” She flips the picture book, and my mouth parts in surprise. She has his little hair in a ponytail, and blush on his cheeks. He looks so much like Charlie.

“Fashionista, indeed.” Pandora giggles, and he flips her off, with a smile on his face.

“ Finn and I tried for another baby for five years, and nothing worked. On his tenth birthday, I saw this picture and broke down. I needed a daughter. I wanted more children, so we decided to try IVF. Now, here we are, almost ten years later, with three troublesome children. I have the daughter I wanted, and some more.” She looks at the three of us softly.

She is so sweet and makes me feel welcomed. She has always made me feel welcomed from the first day I stepped foot in here.

“We do need your help with our dresses,” I say slowly.

“We haven’t figured out what to go with.” Darcy agrees.

“Or, where to get it. It is a mess. You have a legendary closet, so you definitely know what to do.” Pandora nudges her shoulder.

“You want me to come with you?” She stares at us, eyes wide.

“Of course we want you to come with us. We can go today if you want. The day is still fresh.” I glance at the huge wall clock.

“Oh!” She claps her hands, all giddy, and jumps up. “I’ll go get ready. I’m sure Lilah and Florence will love to join us.”

I nod and reach for my phone. “I’ll call my mom and have her drop the kids here. Is that alright?”

“Perfect. The triplets will be awake soon, and will love to find their friends here. Today is going to be a wonderful day!” She blows us kisses and goes upstairs.

“Do I continue the salad?” Romeo frowns, returning to the kitchen.

“Chop, chop, fashionista.” Darcy grins at him, and I laugh.

I call my mom, tell her what we are doing and join him in the kitchen. This time, he grabs me by the waist and places me on the counter when I try to help. He cups my cheeks and presses his mouth to mine. Heat explodes in my belly, and I melt against him.

“Thank you.” He whispers against my mouth, and I frown, confused again. “I did not do anything.”

He ignores me, as his mother has done, before pulling out his card. I stare at it and bite my lip hard.

“I know you have your own money, but can you please take this? Put all the dresses and other expenses on it. I’ll collect it when you return. You don’t have to worry about the money. Mom is taking you to really high-end stores, and I want you to have it.” He says carefully.

I look at him, trying to figure out how to say no.

“Put your card away, Romeo. Do not insult me. All bills are on me.” His mom walks down the stairs in a stunning dress.

He sighs and slips the card back into his pocket. I know that eventually, I’ll have to use his card. He’ll always have more money than he can spend, and so will I. This is a new reality I am adjusting to. Despite this, I intend to get a job when I get to Oxford – not menial jobs, but something that aligns with Law, or other fields. I am always ready to work.

“You can watch the kids, right?” I ask, changing the topic smoothly.

“Yes. I’ll have Jordan and Kai over. I need their input on something.” He tells me with a smile.

“On what?” I frown, getting off the counter.

“You’ll see.” is all he says, and I already know he is planning my Promposal. He doesn’t have to ask me, but it doesn’t hurt either. I need to let him take care of me. I have a lifetime to get used to it.
