Chapter 83 Eighty Three

Chapter 83 Eighty Three
Mira swallowed hard as she watched Salvatore’s face, the faint grin playing across his lips making her stomach twist because she knew that expression too well. He was up to no good, and judging by the way his eyes remained fixed on Anna, she had a feeling he was enjoying every second of this.
“Anna was just visiting to say hi,” Mira said quickly, forcing a smil. “Right, Anna?”
Anna turned toward her with a confused look before looking back at Salvatore, her expression becoming serious. “Mr. Corvin, I didn’t come here to say hi. I came to take Mira back with me.”
Mira froze.
Salvatore’s grin disappeared. For a moment, he simply stared at Anna before slowly shifting his gaze toward Mira and then back to her. “Take her back with you?” he asked calmly. “What exactly do you mean by that? She works for me.”
“Drop the act,” Anna said firmly. Mira’s heart began pounding.
Anna took a small step forward, refusing to let Salvatore intimidate her. “I know you already know who she is, and I know you know exactly why she’s here. So there’s no point pretending.”
The room went completely silent.
Salvatore’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he said nothing.
Anna continued, her voice steady despite the tension hanging heavily in the room. “I’m not leaving her here with you for another second.”
Mira felt her stomach drop. She glanced at Salvatore.
He wasn’t smiling anymore. His expression had become unreadable, his hazel eyes fixed on Anna with a dangerous calm that made the entire room seem colder.
“Anna,” Mira whispered. But Anna didn’t look at her. “I came here to get you out,” she said. “And I’m not leaving without you.”
Salvatore held Anna’s gaze for several seconds, the silence stretching between them until it became almost unbearable. Mira could feel the tension radiating through the room, and she knew one wrong word could turn the entire conversation into something far worse.
Then, just as suddenly, Salvatore smiled.
“Who’s starving?” he asked casually, as though Anna hadn’t just announced that she was taking her away from him. “I know I am.”
Mira blinked, caught completely off guard by the sudden change in his mood. Salvatore turned toward the dining room. “Let’s get something to eat.”
“Salvatore…” Mira began.
He ignored her and raised his voice. “Antonio!”
A moment later, Antonio appeared from the hallway. “Yes, boss?”
“Have the table set,” Salvatore ordered, straightening his shirt with his uninjured hand. “We have a guest.”
Antonio’s eyes moved toward Anna, and something about his expression suggested he understood exactly what was happening. “Of course.”
Salvatore looked back at Anna.
His smile remained, but there was nothing warm about it now. His hazel eyes had turned cold, watching her with a quiet intensity that made Mira’s stomach tighten.
“Please,” he said, gesturing toward the dining room. “Join us.”
Anna didn’t move.
“I said I’m taking Mira home.”
“I heard you,” he said his voice uncomfortably calm.
“Then you understand I’m not staying.”
Salvatore’s smile widened slightly. “You can leave whenever you want.” Mira stared at him. That was too easy.
Salvatore turned away and began walking toward the dining room as though the matter had already been settled. “But before you do, you can have breakfast.”
Anna looked at Mira again, clearly trying to understand what he was planning.
Mira had no idea. And somehow, that frightened her more than if he had threatened her.
Anna remained where she was, watching Salvatore walk away as though he hadn’t just been confronted by someone who had come directly to his home to take Mira from him. Mira knew that look on Anna’s face. She was suspicious, angry, and probably wondering why Salvatore wasn’t stopping her.
“Don’t,” Mira whispered.
Anna looked at her. “Don’t what?”
“Don’t provoke him.”
Anna’s expression hardened. “I’m not the one who needs to be careful right now.”
Before Mira could respond, Antonio returned with two servants behind him. They moved quickly around the dining room, placing plates, glasses, and silverware across the long table while Salvatore took his usual seat at the head.
He leaned back carefully, his injured shoulder resting against the chair, but his attention never left Anna. “Come on,” he said pleasantly. “I promise I don’t bite.”
Antonio coughed.
Salvatore glanced at him. “What?”
“Nothing.”
“You were about to say something.”
“I value my life.” Antonio said walking away then Salvatore tturned to her “Sit, Mira.”She hesitated.
Anna immediately spoke. “You don’t have to sit if you don’t want to.”
Salvatore’s gaze shifted toward her. “I wasn’t speaking to you.”
The room went quiet.Mira looked between them before slowly pulling out a chair. Anna sighed and took the seat beside her, keeping her eyes on Salvatore.
He smiled faintly. “There. Much better.”
A servant placed a cup of coffee in front of him. Salvatore reached for it with his good hand, taking a slow sip before setting it back down.
Anna leaned forward. “You knew who she was before she came here, didn’t you?”
Salvatore looked at her over the rim of his cup. “I knew.”
Mira’s stomach tightened.
Anna’s eyes narrowed. “Then why are you allowing her to stay?”
Salvatore placed the cup down. “Because Mira wants to stay.”
Anna immediately looked at Mira. “Do you?”
Mira opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
That was the problem. She had spent the entire morning telling herself she needed to leave, yet when the moment finally came, the thought of walking away from this mansion felt strangely difficult.
Salvatore watched her carefully.
Anna noticed the hesitation. “Mira,” she said softly. “Look at me.”
Mira lifted her eyes.
“You almost died,” Anna continued. “You were nearly killed because of this man, and you’re still sitting here like nothing happened.”
“I know.”
“Then come with me.”
Mira looked down at the table.Salvatore remained completely silent.
That silence somehow made the decision harder. Anna reached across the table and took her hand. “Whatever you think you need to do it isn’t worth staying with such an animal.”
Mira’s chest tightened.
Salvatore’s jaw shifted slightly. He finally looked away, reaching for his coffee again. But Mira noticed the change in his expression. He didn’t like hearing Anna say those words. Not even a little.
Anna squeezed her hand. “Please.”
Mira swallowed. “I need time.”
Anna stared at her in disbelief. “Time for what?”
Mira looked toward Salvatore. His eyes met hers.
Neither of them spoke. And in that silent exchange, Mira realized something that terrified her. She didn’t want Anna to take her away.
She was sacred what Salvatore would do to Anna if she left with her.
