Chapter 78
P.O.V. Lyall
Once again I had Ebon in my arms, once again I felt complete.
I don't know what the future held, but I wasn't willing to let her go so easily.
But so many things were going through my head, so many whys. I needed to think, because this time I couldn't go wrong.
I was afraid of receiving a new companion from the moon goddess, which is a common occurrence with rejected alphas, but just thinking about the possibility of loving another woman was driving me crazy.
I brought Ebon to her room to avoid unnecessary conversations, but I ended up making love to her again and now she sleeps peacefully on my chest, but that's wrong, so I carefully leave her there, lying like an angel and go to my room to prepare for the many decisions I have to make and to have a serious talk with Rebeca and hope for the moon goddess that she has settled down with John.
They deserve to be happy.
As soon as I entered my room and saw the sheets of my bed messed up from my night of love with Ebon and smelled her scent all over every corner, I stopped.
I watched that scene and tried to imprint it in my mind, so that I would never forget it.
I went to take a shower and as the water fell on my body, I felt the slight sting of the scratches that my queen's nails had left on my body. These marks were already beginning to heal, but I enjoyed feeling them.
I got ready and went down to breakfast, and again a smile appeared on my lips. The usual passionate couple were there chatting while they never missed an opportunity to touch each other, but now my parents had an unlikely companion: Ebon.
It was amazing how quickly they got on, even though they had a dark past in common.
“You'll let the drool run,” a smiling John appeared beside me and I knew that all was well again.
“Should I protect myself or say good morning?” I held out my hand to the man, who greeted it with a smile.
We both sat down at the table, but I realized that Rebeca hadn't arrived yet and after waiting a while for her, we started to eat.
Ebon avoided looking at me, but when she did, she didn't let a slight smile escape, which made my chest fill up.
“Where's Rebeca?” I finally asked, more to John, who, from the look on his face, didn't know what was going on.
“She's here,” Cassandra accompanied Rebeca, who seemed to have been crying all morning and probably didn't want to be there.
She sat down, but didn't even raise her eyes. I looked at Cassandra for any hint of what had happened, but she signaled for me to ask.
“Rebeca, darling, what happened to you? Is everything all right?”
“Everything's fine, I was delayed because I had to make some adjustments to my wedding dress, I can't wait to walk down the aisle with you!”
The way she said it was unexpected. She seemed to be angry, very angry, and now Ebon was also looking at me as if I were an insect about to be crushed.
“Rebeca! What the hell is going on?” John asked trying to control his anger and I understood him, since his predestined mate was saying in front of him that she was dying to marry another man.
“You cheating vampire, don't ever speak to me again... and to think I almost gave myself to you yesterday!” John's face flushed and I realized that, like Rebeca, he was shy about these intimate matters, which showed how compatible they were.
John was about to get up, but Ebon held his hand and asked him to calm down, which seemed to make Rebeca even angrier.
“You're both disgusting, I'm glad Lyall and I got rid of you,” she said and I saw Ebon's gaze change. I needed to separate these two, otherwise a war would break out over jugs of juice and fried eggs.
“Ebon, please, come on...” I started to speak. “No, leave them,” my mother interrupted me with that tone that even my father doesn't have the courage to face.
“So Rebeca, since you're like a tantruming child ruining everyone's breakfast, why don't you tell us why John and I are disgusting. Maybe we can figure out how to make it better,” Ebon said seriously, further increasing the tension at the table.
I noticed Cassandra encouraging Rebeca, who finally spoke up.
“You came here swearing your love for us, but as soon as you turned your back you spent the night together, curled up in your bed,” she said to Ebon, who with impeccable posture was turning over a glass of juice, but who choked the moment he heard that.
“Ebon!” I got up quickly to help her and saw John more lost than ever.
“Rebeca, after dinner I went to my room and slept all night. We've just come from a series of battles in the kingdom and I've had a very intense day. I just wanted to rest. I haven't had any with Ebon and as much as I'm free to enter Ebon's room, I've never even sat on his bed,” John said, almost terrified.
“John, the maids said that Ebon spent the night with you and that in the morning, when they went to tidy up the room, they saw you lying together,” Rebeca said.
“Damn it, Rebeca, it wasn't John with me last night. How can you think of such nonsense?” Ebon replied, slightly embarrassed at having been exposed.
“If it wasn't John, who was the man with you? I'm sure the maids wouldn't make up something that serious.”
Ebon lowered her eyes sadly and I realized she wasn't going to expose me. Does she really think I see her as a mistress? Doesn't she understand that in the midst of all the confusion going on in my mind, the only certainty I have is that I love her?
“Rebeca, darling, I thought it was obvious,” I said while still holding Ebon's back, after helping her from choking.
“Was that you with her?” She asked me with her hand over her mouth and I could tell she was starting to connect the dots.
“I saw that you and John were getting on. I wanted to talk to you after coffee and decide what to do together, but I guess now it's become a mutual matter,” I said to my little sister, who immediately blushed.
“Are you serious that you would still get married if Rebecca wanted to?” Now it was Ebon's turn to put me against the wall.
“Yes. I would get married. Once I'd given my word, I couldn't go back,” I replied and watched Ebon cry in front of everyone. She hated showing weakness and as much as her crying wasn't seen by me as vulnerability, I knew she wasn't well.
“I'm leaving, Lyall. I don't have to go through this,” she said as she stood up, but I knelt down beside her and pulled her hand so that she could sit down again.
“Ebon, my love. I made a promise to Rebecca to get married and then divorced without even touching her. Only for her to break the bond of predestined mate with John and as much as I think these two are made for each other and are already in love, I couldn't go back on what I said, but it wouldn't change anything between us, since we no longer have the bond and you wouldn't feel any pain.”
“Please stop arguing. Rebecca and I are getting married tomorrow, right?” John looked at Rebeca who nodded, clearly embarrassed by the scene he had caused.
“Don't worry, John. I won't argue anymore...” Tomorrow, after I celebrate your wedding with you, I'll come home...”
“You're not going anywhere!” I said as I gripped his hand even tighter. “I didn't finish saying what I wanted,” I said and watched her dry her tears.
“I was just going to keep my promise and as soon as I dissolved the marriage I was going to ask the council for permission to marry you, even though we're no longer partners. I love you, Ebon...”
I looked into her eyes and saw that the love I felt was even greater than before, when I could feel the bond influencing me.
“If you don't believe me, take me with you. I can be your slave again if you want, but I can't live another day without you.”
“Sorry, Lyall, but I need some fresh air. Sorry, Ava, for ruining your breakfast and sorry, Rebeca, for any misunderstandings.
Ebon stood up and Rebeca ran after her, hugging her.
“Forgive me... I'm not usually this childish, but the predestined mate bond is driving me crazy,” she said to Ebon, who smiled.
“Don't worry, sister. Just make my John happy.”
Ebon turned and left.
