Chapter 15 (Exposed!)
Chapter 15 (Exposed!)
"When you both have grown tired of each other, your companionship keeps you going. And most importantly, you'll look back on your memories together and realise that even without the sex, or throbbing love, that the man was indeed your soul mate," Mrs. Wolfe extended her hand to Callie.
Callie slowly stood and placed her hand on Mrs. Wolfe's, her pulse racing as guilt made her almost unable to breathe.
How can such a nice and lovely woman have raised such a jerk as a son?
"Thank you, Mother. I will cherish this gift, and, your son. He's a loving man, I don't think I'll ever stop loving him, not even when we're old and grey," She smiled and hugged the older woman.
She hugged the woman not because she wanted to but because she wanted to hide the guilt in her eyes behind a hug. She felt like she was lying to her poor, sick mother.
If she wasn't doing this with Grayson just for the money, she would have told the poor woman just how manipulative her son was. But, she wouldn't be stupid enough to do things that would sabotage herself, too.
"Aww, Grayson, she's so cute. Where did you find her?" A voice chirped happily from the entrance.
Callie immediately stepped away from Mrs. Wolfe, smoothing her hands over her pants as she stared at Grayson and a shorter young lady smirking in front of the door. Her long, wavy hair was held in a low pony, and her loose sweatshirt and baggy pants gave her a laid-back look.
Callie didn't need to ask before she knew that the young lady was Grayson's sister. Her face was too similar to her mother's, and she didn't escape the blue-eyed gene. Her eyes were just like Grayson's and her mother's, but Callie could see that hers had a bit of twinkle to it, a mischievous twinkle.
"Lily, you made it home," Mrs. Wolfe's face brightened the moment she saw her daughter standing by the door.
"Of course, Mom. I missed you," Lily ran into her mother's arms, kissing her cheeks.
"Glad you came back. Meet Callie, Grayson's wife," Mrs. Wolfe introduced Callie.
Callie awkwardly extended her hand for a handshake, but Lily gently pulled her in for a hug.
"Finally, I have a sister, we're going to do a lot of fun things together," She smiled at Callie.
Callie cleared her throat, smiling, "Hi, nice to meet you, Lily." She tucked her hair behind her ear, her cheeks flushing.
"Aww, she's so cute, Mummy. Will she live with us?" Lily asked, not letting go of Callie's hand.
"No, she's a busy woman, Lily. There will be no time for her to play with you," Grayson stepped into the room, his eyes taking in Callie's flushed cheeks and he wondered if she was uncomfortable and overwhelmed with everyone crowding around her.
His eyes went to her neck, narrowing on the pearl necklace around it. It did look good on her.
Callie glanced up, making a brief eye contact with Grayson before she quickly looked away.
"Hmm, just say you want to lock in with your wife, I'd understand, brother. I mean, you heard her say she would love you till you're both old and grey. I'm sure you want to keep her in and -"
"Lily, stop talking. Go find Omar for launch," Mrs. Wolfe turned Lily toward the door and gently pushed her pit of the room.
"Come along, you two. Let's eat," She said and walked out of the room with her daughter.
Slowly, Callie broke away from Grayson's intense gaze and cleared her throat, returning to her usual unborheted self as they were now left alone in the room.
She saw that Grayson's eyes had lowered to her neck and immediately recalled the reason why she was brought in here in the first place.
"I will return it to -"
"You heard her, launch is ready. Don't let your act drop, Wife," he said and left the room, not bothering to listen to what she had wanted to say to him.
Callie sighed loudly, her hands going to her neck to feel the almost silky feeling of the pearl beads around her neck.
If Roxy ever saw this on her, she'd suggest they pawn it.
She looked at the door and frowned, Grayson was a cold fellow. Couldn't he just have a normal conversation with her? Did he always have to be at war with her
Whatever, as long as he kept his side of the deal.
She would have to return this necklace to him. She couldn't wear it, she wasn't his wife... his real wife. He should probably keep it for the right person when she came along, but he left it with a stranger whom he had met at a crazy game show.
As Callie walked out of the room and along the passageway, she saw Omar leaning on the pillar by the wall just a few steps ahead of her.
Her steps didn't falter. She knew he was out for trouble, but he failed to realise that her last name was trouble.
She held her head high and walked past him, but there was no way Omar was going to let her go without speaking.
"Callie," Omar called, leaning off the pillar to fall into step with Callie.
Callie didn't stop walking, "Hi, cousin-in-law. Want to have some chit-chat?" She asked without even glancing at him.
Omar chuckled, "The dining is that way, Mrs. Wolfe," he pointed across the living room.
Csllie paused, realising she was heading the wrong way.
'Damn it,' she balled her fists as she saw the amused look on Omar's face.
She never wanted to give him a reason for his damn white teeth at her, but it looks like she had failed.
"Not so fast, damsel," Omar suddenly caught Callie's hand, blocking her path.
Callie sighed, "Grayson never mentioned he had such a dramatic family. You've got my attention now. What can Aunt do for you?" She asked in a mocking tone.
Omar smirked, "I wonder if you'd be so cocky when I show my aunt this video of you insulting Grayson in a game show... what a perfect couple, am I right?" He raised his phone to her face, the video playing loudly around the hallway.
