“come on now” Helios said, looking at him with a bit of irritation in his eyes. “you know i would never lie to you… right?” he said, addressing the second part to me.
I said nothing, not knowing what to say “a fae can’t lie, remember?” he said, looking at me then to Aiden with this victorious look on his face. “besides, you can always say the words.” he said some spells, telling them to repeat them after him.
Something about the way he said i should repeat them made me unable to deny the request, so i did. ‘i mean what is the worse that can happen?’ the thought popped up in my head but i shoved it as far back as possible.
The las time i had that thought, i had seen what the worst that could happen was.
“bonded by blood, never to lie, cause when the tongue twists would be the day you die” the words flew from his mouth effortlessly making me not doubt whether or not they could be harmful.
“bounded…”
“no!!!” Aiden cut me off, rushing to me and using his hands to cover my mouth “please, just please, don’t trust him, or say anything fucked up thing” Aiden said, his demeanor like nothing i had ever seen in my life.
“why?” Helios’ voice called in that taunting manner, making me look at Aiden because he was acting a little out of place. “or would it be that you are hiding something and would not want her to know?” the air suddenly grew thick with tension as he said that
I looked to Aiden, my gaze not leaving him even for a split second.
He was all i had and the only person i now i had in my corner, if by chance he had done something unthinkable that i could not forgive…
“.. if that is the situation then i can keep my mouth…”
“enough!” i cut him off, mostly out of fear than anything else. He was getting to me and i knew it, and honestly, i would rather be ignorant than to lose the one person..
“oh..” Helios said, looking at me with a bit of genuine surprise “did i strike a nerve?” he said, looking at me with a bit of a smile. “or do you think that what i am saying might be true? You know you can always…”
“i said… that is enough!!!” i said, shoving him with more force than intended. It might have been the fact that i caught him off guard, or that i was not really thinking about it when i shoved him, sending him farther than expected.
I watched him fly, close to the place that Aiden had landed. “stop trying to mess with my head” i said, trying to sound tough but my voice only came out shaky.
“so…” he said, getting back to his feet, dusting the imaginary dust that was on his body. “i see that you are not going to take my hands so that i tell you the truth then?” he said, the irritation on his face becoming more and more obvious as he did not even bother to hide it anymore
“i don’t need to hear any truth from you i am afraid” i said it as calmly as possible, standing my ground. “i believe Lord Heathorb would tell me when the time is right” i said, looking straight into his eyes
Helios’s eyes burned like molten gold, a furious flame sparking as he sneered at me. “Foolish girl,” he spat, his voice dripping with venom. “You truly think you can do as you please?”he snorted, looking enraged “well i tried to do this nicely” he spat as he charged at me
My chest tightened, but I stood my ground. The air between us was thick, buzzing with something I couldn’t quite understand, something that made my skin prickle. He didn’t wait for me to answer. With a growl that shook the walls, he lunged forward, his movements as fast as lightning.
I barely dodged, stumbling back as his hand slammed into the wall behind me, stone cracking beneath the force. My heart pounded so hard it felt like it might rip through my ribs. He came at me again, and this time, his strike grazed my shoulder, sending a searing pain down my arm.
“Why won’t you just follow?” he snarled, his eyes flashing. “You’re nothing without me.”
I wanted to shout back, to scream that I was more than his puppet, but my throat tightened. All I could do was push myself up again, trembling, refusing to bow. Then I heard it—Aiden’s voice. Weak, pain filling every bit of his voice.
“Advika…” i snapped my gaze to him, seeing him trying to get up.
Helios turned sharply, his gaze snapping toward Aiden was trying to get up, leaning against the wall for support. My blood ran cold as Helios raised his hand, dark energy sparking in his palm, aimed straight at Aiden’s chest.
“No!” The word ripped from me before I even knew what I was doing.
Something inside me cracked open—like glass shattering, like fire racing through my veins. My body burned, not with pain, but with power. My vision blurred, the world around me warping with light that pulsed from deep within my chest.
Helios’s attack shot forward, but I moved before it could reach Aiden, raising my hand instinctively. Energy—my energy—burst out, colliding with his force midair. The impact sent a deafening roar through the house, and the walls shook violently.
Helios staggered back, shock flashing across his face. “Impossible,” he hissed.
But I didn’t stop. Power surged uncontrollably, spilling out of me in waves. I fought back with everything I had, striking at him again and again. Each blast of energy ripped through the room, tearing apart what was left of the pack house. Beams cracked, windows shattered, flames licked at the splintering wood.
Helios charged, but this time I met him head-on. Our powers clashed, the explosion throwing us both backward. I hit the floor hard, dust and debris raining over me, but I was still alive. Breathing. Burning with something new.
Helios rose slowly, glaring at me through the haze. His lip curled, but I could see the flicker of uncertainty in his eyes now. For the first time, he wasn’t so sure of his control.
and then it hit me. i had done it. i had made the man rumoured to be the most powerful tremble and that gave me a little more confidence boost that i did not know i needed...
