Chapter 86

Chapter 86
Elena's P.O.V

"You think you can talk to me like that, dog?" Carlton snapped, his eyes blazing with fury as he leveled a searing glare in my direction.

"Wait. What do you mean, the pain you are going through?" Kieran's voice was a mix of concern and disbelief, his brow furrowing as he stepped protectively in front of me. His eyes searched carlton's, demanding answers. "What pain are you talking about?"

I could feel the weight of his gaze, urging Carlton to reveal the turmoil he'd been hiding. The air between them thickened with unspoken words, and for a moment, it felt like the world around us all had faded away.

"You love her, don’t you? I understand completely. She’s your universe, the very air that fills your lungs. The blood coursing through your veins harmonizes with hers, a melody that binds you together. I know what that feels like. His blood sang to me! He was everything I had ever yearned for. I wanted nothing more than to shield him, to keep him wrapped in my protection. Yet, here we are—your men took him from me. Even the Moon Goddess conspired against us, wishing him dead! How could fate be so cruel?"

"Carlton? You said you loved me?" Davina's voice trembled, barely above a whisper as she stepped out from the shadows, her heart racing.

The look on her face was a mixture of shock and desperation, disbelief clouding her thoughts. She locked eyes with him, searching for any hint of truth in his gaze. "Please, tell me you’re lying. You didn’t love Mateo... Did you?"

The question hung between them like a fragile thread, the weight of her fear and hope threatening to shatter it completely. The silence stretched on, each second amplifying the tension, as Davina braced herself for the answer that could change everything.

Carlton's eyes blazed with a mix of disdain and twisted amusement as he locked his gaze on Davina. "You silly little tart!" he growled, his voice laced with contempt. "Who in their right mind could ever love you? You're nothing but cheap and easy, desperate for attention like a moth to a flame."

He stepped closer, invading her space, his demeanor shifting to one of cruel manipulation. "You were so easily bent to my will, weren’t you? Just a flick of my finger and you'd do anything for me—if you thought I loved you. But let’s drop the pretense, shall we? There’s something I need you to do for me, and I want you to listen carefully..."

A sinister smile curled on his lips as he leaned in, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Now, I want you to kill Elena." The weight of his words hung in the air, heavy and charged with dark intent, as he watched her reaction with cold, calculating interest.

“Go to hell!” Davina spat, her eyes ablaze with rage. “You lied to me! You promised I was the one! You manipulated me into believing I was destined to be your wife. You made me cross the darkest lines—killing her grandmother, my own mother! I poisoned that innocent little girl for you! And what did you do in return? You lied! You said you wanted a family with me!”

Her voice quivered with hurt, each word laced with betrayal, echoing in the silence that hung between them. She took a step forward, fists clenched, challenging him to face the consequences of his deceit. The air crackled with tension, the weight of their shared past threatening to shatter the fragile facade of their relationship.

"My own brother. Gay!" Kieran chuckled darkly, a twisted smile creeping across his face. "Wow, what a revelation. Good thing Father isn't around to witness this; he'd never let it slide! Now you can finally grasp what it feels like to lose someone you cherish. Remember how Elena felt when you orchestrated her grandmother's death? Painful, isn’t it?

I could bring an end to your misery, but that would be too easy. No, I have something much more fitting in mind. I’m going to banish you forever, serve you a fate worse than death—living with the torment of knowing that your actions led to the demise of the one you loved. And just for good measure, I’ll make sure Davina goes with you! Enjoy your exile!"

"Noo!" Davina protested, her voice trembling as she spun around to face me, desperation written all over her face. "Elena, please listen! It was Carlton—he's the one who twisted my arm. I never wanted to hurt you! I’m truly sorry! Please, I’m begging you for your forgiveness! Just don’t send me back to him!”

Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, and for a moment, I could see the genuine fear beneath her words. The weight of her plea hung in the air, as I wrestled with the chaos of betrayal and loyalty.

Just as I opened my mouth to speak, a searing contraction washed over me, doubling me over in pain. "Aarghh! Kieran, please!" I gasped, my breath hitching as agony coursed through my body. The urgency of the moment surged within me. "We need to go—now!" Panic flickered in my eyes, and I could feel the weight of time pressing down as I struggled to stay focused. The world around me blurred, but my determination sharpened. No more waiting.

Just as I stepped forward, Carlton surged toward me, arms outstretched as if he could embrace the chaos unfolding between us. Time seemed to stall as Davina flew into action, sprinting from the sidelines. Her eyes were wide, determination etched across her face as she reached out to snatch Carlton from behind. What was she thinking? Was she trying to shield him—us—from what? But deep down, I knew it wouldn't change a thing. She had done what she had done and she needed to pay. It felt like the world had paused, holding its breath as we teetered on the brink of something irreversible.

Before we could even react, Carlton whirled around, a sudden surge of anger propelling him to push Davina away. As she started to fall, her eyes widened with shock, a silent scream escaping her contorted face. In one swift motion, her long fingers snagged desperately at the the collar of Carlton's coat, pulling him down with her in a chaotic tumble.

A scream behind me pierced the air, sharp and agonizing, cutting through the confusion. Then came a thunderous crack, reverberating in the stillness that followed. My heart raced as I cautiously edged to the brink of the bridge, the chill of fear creeping up my spine.

Peering down into the dark abyss below, I was met with a haunting sight: Two silent figures, eternally ensnared in a web of mutual disdain, forever silenced, a tangled mess of limbs, their positions twisted and unnatural, lying in a heap. The silence enveloped me, heavy and suffocating, as the weight of the moment pressed down, leaving me frozen in shock.
