Chapter 27 Once Upon a Time of Innocence
Mark quickly came to Elsa and Lola.
"It's been long since I've seen you two old iron friends. Thanks for coming to my presentation."
"What you shared was great. We learned a lot, too. For a long time, I didn't realize you were so good. All the girls in the architecture department have fallen for you." Lola said jokingly, but what she said was the truth.
"Thanks for the compliment. You're still as jovial as ever." Mark looks to Elsa, "Are you free tonight? Do you want to join us for a drink? My treat."
"Are you extending a date invitation to two of our beautiful ladies?" Lola put on a proud face.
Seeing Lola's desire to perform, Elsa just smiled at Lola and didn't decline or agree to the invitation.
"I've come back from Europe this time with a gift for you."
Lola waited with wide eyes and exaggerated, "What? Mark Steven, the man of the world, would bring us a gift, especially for us? Let me guess, it's not chocolate, is it?"
Lola finished, frowned at Elsa, and then laughed harshly.
They all knew that Elsa didn't love other snacks but favored chocolate.
In middle school, Mark would always use his pocket money to buy various types of chocolates, and Elsa and Lola used to eat many of them.
If their teenage years had a flavor, it would have been chocolate.
Elsa blushed scarlet and bowed her head slightly as she seemed to remember her high school days. How could she not know that Mark liked her?
This time, Mark returned from Europe and specially brought chocolates, and his behavior touched Elsa.
After a few seconds, Elsa's expression returned to calmness, and she smiled at Mark, "We haven't seen each other for a long time indeed, and we could certainly use a drink and a good chat. It's just that neither of us has had time to prepare a gift for you."
"That's okay. I'm flattered that you guys came to hear me speak."
Lola happily agreed.
The three of them were best friends in high school, but after they went to college, they rarely saw each other because they were all busy with their studies because of their different majors. They became a little rusty with each other, and Lola was eager to make the friendship closer.
The three walked down a long corridor, chatting as they left the school.
At that moment, there was a clamor from around the corner of the promenade, and suddenly, many people appeared.
"Hey, did you see that? Nicholas Sanders is hurt. His face looks like he's been punched hard!"
"FUCK, it shouldn't have been beaten? Who's got the nerve?"
"It's crazy that anyone would dare offend Nicholas!"
"Nonsense, no one in this town would hurt Nicholas except outlaws. I heard he got hurt because of a football game."
"What? Are you kidding me!"
The discussion was much quieter, and the crowd slowly parted from the center to make way. Nicholas walked through the center, his eyes not even looking at the people on either side of him.
Behind Nicholas were Hugh and Thomas. The three of them were always inseparable.
Nicholas looked in evil spirits. His figure was erect, tall, and handsome. His brow was slightly furrowed, and his eyes were cold.
The top two buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, revealing his sexy collarbone and a faint glimpse of the bandages on his shoulders.
Although he still wore a nobleman’s dress and demeanor, his face, which looked like an angel had kissed it, carried some fatigue in addition to the conspicuous scars.
Nicholas carried a powerful aura on his body, and the crowd clamored and shut up as people retreated to the sides.
It was like an invisible wall around Nicholas. No ordinary person could get close to him.
When Elsa gazed at Nicholas, Nicholas looked at her as well, but Nicholas's eyes lingered on her face for only a second before moving away.
Elsa also panicked and lowered her head, standing beside the corridor.
Nicholas noticed Mark behind Elsa!
His originally expressionless face became even colder. His brow furrowed even more severely, his eyes seemed able to shoot bullets, and he clenched his teeth darkly, his bite muscles bulging slightly.
Mark sensed the hostility and glared at Nicholas as well.
Both men sensed the other's provocation, like two lions about to start a war for the right to mate with the lioness.
Mark didn't know why Nicholas was hostile to him, and he knew even less about Nicholas and Elsa's close relationship.
But Nicholas knows everything!
He hated the idea of his girl having even the slightest relationship with another man, even if it was just a casual friend! Besides, Mark was handsome and brilliant and had a high school fling with Elsa. It made him very uncomfortable.
His overbearing, controlling nature is entirely inherited from his mother, if not more so.
Elsa felt Nicholas' look on her face. Of course, she knew what Nicholas was thinking. He resented her meeting with Mark, so she always found excuses to shrug off Mark's various invitations.
But now, in this situation, Elsa had no idea what to do.
A war was about to break out between the two men, but Nicholas was the first to gather his sharp tongue, his eyes looking down the corridor without pausing in his steps.
The voice of reason in Nicholas' brain reminded him that there were more important things to take care of than beating up Mark, and there was no reason for him to beat up Mark at school that would cause unnecessary trouble.
The tension lifted in a flash.
Just when Elsa thought it was all over, Nikolas bumped Elsa with his shoulder as he passed her.
Nicholas was trying to give Elsa a heads-up and wasn't exerting himself.
But he was too strong, and Elsa's supple frame wobbled a little at the impact.
Elsa had leaned on this broad, warm shoulder countless times before, and this time, all she felt was coldness and pain.
Mark suddenly took a step forward, his eyes almost spitting fire!
The fuse of the bomb, which had just been extinguished, rekindled!
