Chapter 87 Shocked Servant
"Grandma, it's not that I don't want to come, but how about tomorrow..."
Sensing her hesitation, Margaret said pitifully, "Emmie darling, I haven't been feeling well these past few days. I only got better after drinking the supplements you bought me. Just come over for a meal and chat with me. Grandma promises no one will know!"
Hearing the old lady making excuses, Emily didn't know whether to laugh or cry. But she really couldn't bear to refuse. "Alright, I'll come keep you company."
"Great, great, great!" Margaret was instantly overjoyed. "Bring little Eleanor too. Grandma bought her lots of things!"
At this, Emily hesitated slightly. "Is he... not there?"
Margaret pursed her lips. "I scolded him away a couple days ago. He definitely won't be back these few days. Don't worry, Emmie darling!"
In the end, she agreed. "Okay, I'll bring Eleanor with me."
She hung up the phone.
Andrew looked at her, worry crossing his face. "Emmie, are you really going to the Baker family estate? What if..."
Emily held Eleanor and reassured him, "Dad, Grandma's just lonely and wants me to come chat with her. Alex and I have nothing to do with each other anymore. Besides, before I went abroad, Grandma already accepted me as her goddaughter. It's only right that I visit her. Don't worry."
Margaret truly cared for her. She couldn't let her down.
Andrew said nothing more. "Alright, go ahead. Call Dad if anything happens."
"Okay." Emily went to the storage room and selected a few exquisite gifts. "Eleanor, we're going to see Great-grandma soon. Remember to greet her properly, okay?"
She placed Eleanor in the car seat.
Since Andrew was really worried, he had the family driver take them.
That saved her from driving anyway.
Over these years abroad, she'd gotten her driver's license since it made commuting convenient.
But since someone could do it for her, she didn't mind the help.
Hearing they were going to see Great-grandma, Eleanor danced with joy. "Yay! Going to see Great-grandma!"
Emily smiled helplessly.
Her daughter had loved going out and about since she was little. She had no idea who she got that personality from.
An hour later.
At the entrance of the Baker family estate.
Emily got out of the car holding Eleanor.
This vintage courtyard was still magnificent as ever.
Quiet and elegant, exuding luxury and refinement everywhere.
Emily took a deep breath. She was back...
She had just reached the entrance holding her daughter when Susan hurried over, her face full of smiles. "Miss Johnson, you're finally here. The old lady has been waiting for you... Huh?!"
"This is..." Susan froze completely.
She stared in disbelief, looking at Eleanor's little face in shock.
This... this child... her eyes, nose bridge, even her lips were exactly like Alex when he was little!
Like they were carved from the same mold!
Susan swallowed hard. "Miss Johnson, is this child..."
Emily smiled politely. "This is my daughter. She'll be staying for dinner at the estate today. Thank you, Susan."
With that, she entered the living room.
She didn't want to explain about her daughter to anyone.
Inside, Margaret was sitting on the sofa eagerly waiting.
Looking up to see the pair enter, she reached out and pulled Eleanor into her arms, doting on her endlessly. "My little Eleanor, I've been waiting so long for you! Let Great-grandma get a good look at you!"
The old lady held Eleanor, kissing her again and again, her face full of affectionate smiles.
Eleanor snuggled obediently beside her, pressing her little face close to the old lady. "Great-grandma~"
"Yes, sweet darling!" Margaret beamed.
Then she quickly pulled Emily's hand to sit down. "Why did you bring things? You're coming to your own home! Have you adjusted to the time difference? You must be exhausted, right?"
Emily sat down with a smile. "Don't worry, Grandma. How have you been feeling lately?"
...
Susan watched from the side, her mind already in turmoil.
The old lady... already knew?
This... so this was the old lady's actual great-granddaughter!
Susan was shocked but didn't dare show it. "Miss Johnson, I'll go prepare dinner now."
With that, she hurried into the kitchen.
Emily pressed her lips together, instinctively glancing upstairs.
The kitchen lights weren't on. There was definitely no one there.
Margaret pulled her hand closer. "Emmie darling, don't worry. Even if he suddenly comes back from outside, Grandma can hide you. By the way, is Eleanor in school? How long are you staying after coming back?"
School...
Emily's fingers touched her forehead. "Just thinking about it gives me a headache. Eleanor's at the age for kindergarten. But I haven't chosen a school yet. Enrollment starts next month, and I still haven't decided."
Margaret's eyes lit up. "The Baker family is a shareholder in a top private school. Why don't we let Eleanor..."
"Grandma, I don't plan to send Eleanor to a private school right now." Emily suddenly interrupted her.
Much less one under the Baker family.
If things came out later, Alex could easily access Eleanor's records privately.
Whether birth information or... blood type.
Seeing she had concerns, Margaret didn't press further.
"If you want to enroll in any school in the future, just tell Grandma!"
Her great-granddaughter deserved to enjoy all the best resources.
Soon.
Dinner was ready.
Almost everything was prepared according to Emily's tastes.
Eleanor was young and picky, but she loved the strawberry pudding on the table. "Eleanor eat!"
Margaret immediately had someone bring the dessert in front of her. "Eat slowly, it's all for our Eleanor."
Then she looked at Susan. "Call the star chef at home and tell him to make more strawberry desserts from now on! Send them all to the Johnson family. My little Eleanor loves them."
"Yes, ma'am." Susan quickly agreed.
Emily held her knife and fork, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. "Grandma, you don't need to go to such trouble."
"As long as little Eleanor likes it, even getting stars from the sky wouldn't be too much trouble!" Margaret waved her hand, her eyes full of love for Eleanor.
They say grandparents dote on grandchildren, and with Margaret it was doubled.
Meanwhile.
Alex was handling documents when the butler suddenly called.
He glanced at it and casually answered. "What is it?"
"Mr. Baker, the old lady has the family chef preparing strawberry desserts to send to the Johnson family. And since the old lady's condition means she can't eat sweets, I'm worried..."
Alex paused in signing documents, his eyes darkening slightly. "Why would Grandma think of sending things to the Johnson family?"
"It's Miss Johnson... she's at the estate having dinner with the old lady right now, and there's also a little..."
Click!
Before the butler could finish, Alex hung up directly.
His eyes remained calm as he continued working.
So she was at the estate.
That was fine. It was rare for Grandma to be happy for a couple of days.
Just... that delicate, gentle face inexplicably flashed before his eyes, lingering and disturbing his peace of mind.
