Chapter 63 Grace Panics
He was on the verge of tears: "Why are you looking at me? It really wasn't me!"
On one side was his completely furious ex-sister-in-law, on the other was Alex with his terrifying presence.
This was literally a scene from hell!
Emily's gaze fell on Alex, cold as ice: "Mr. Baker sure is in a good mood. Someone else's farewell party, and you're interested in crashing it?"
Alex let out a mocking laugh: "After three years of marriage, you won't even buy me a drink?"
As his words landed, everyone's eyes focused on the two of them.
The... atmosphere was so tense it felt like it could snap at any moment.
Emily's eyes turned cold, showing no mercy whatsoever: "Mr. Baker suddenly remembers those three years of marriage now? Sorry, but you don't deserve this drink."
Emily's words were sharp and decisive, leaving no room for negotiation.
The air around Alex turned ice-cold, his deep eyes narrowing as his tongue pressed against his teeth.
Just then, a delicate figure followed into the private room, and in the next second, a pale white arm linked through Alex's.
Grace nestled against his shoulder, her eyes sparkling, "Alex, I just went to touch up my makeup and you came in already? I almost couldn't find you."
Touch up makeup?
Looking at the two of them, they should have just gotten out of the car, so what makeup was there to touch up?
The only possibility was that something had happened in the car.
In the private room, except for Emily, everyone else's expressions darkened slightly.
Rachel, with her fiery temper, couldn't hold back. She stepped forward to shield Emily and let loose: "Miss Miller, is every floor tile your personal stage? Who doesn't know you're Mr. Baker's precious white moonlight? Everyone has eyes - there's no need to put on such a show."
Grace's expression remained gentle, then she leaned slightly closer to Alex: "I know you have misunderstandings about me, after all you're Miss Johnson's best friend. But Alex and I truly love each other, I'm not trying to show off..."
This weak act infuriated Rachel.
She hated two-faced people the most!
Just as she was about to step forward, Emily held her back and smiled slightly: "Really? I just came back from the restroom, how come I didn't see you touching up your makeup?"
The gentleness on Grace's face instantly froze, looking rather unpleasant for a moment.
The makeup touch-up was just an excuse - after Alex got out of the car, he didn't wait for her at all. She had chased after him the whole way.
Now that Emily had called her out publicly, her smile became stiff: "Maybe... maybe we went to different restrooms."
Alex's brow furrowed slightly.
The scene became extremely awkward.
A rich kid nearby quickly came over with a wine glass: "Hey, since you're already here, why not have a drink! How about we play Truth or Dare to liven things up? We've got everything ready! Mr. Baker, this is our Emmie's farewell party today, don't be a buzzkill."
His eyebrows were practically twitching - if this continued, the roof of the club would blow off.
Alex glanced at him: "Fine."
With that, he sat down with Grace.
Matthew stepped forward and gently patted Emily's hand: "It's okay Emmie, you'll be abroad in a couple of days anyway."
Then his reserved gaze swept across everyone, speaking gently: "Everyone just have a good time, after all we've shared some history."
Whether there was a hidden meaning in his words or not, at least he'd given them a way out.
Emily didn't say more and returned to sit on the sofa, deliberately choosing the spot furthest from Alex and Grace.
"Miss Johnson looks really good today, I can tell you're genuinely happy." Grace suppressed the resentment in her heart and sat close to Alex.
She could clearly feel that Alex's mind wasn't on her at all.
Emily looked over with a half-smile: "Miss Miller and Mr. Baker look pretty good too."
Everyone: ...
That was quite a slap in the face.
Who couldn't see that both of them looked miserable?
"Ahem, let the game begin!"
True to form as a playboy, he knew how to keep things going. With a flick of his wrist, the bottle spun several times on the round table, finally stopping perfectly with the mouth pointing at Alex.
Everyone held their breath, oh boy...
Rachel didn't care about any of that and spoke first, her tone somewhat challenging: "Mr. Baker, truth or dare?"
Alex leaned lazily against the sofa, "Truth."
"Great!" Rachel's eyes lit up - that's exactly what she was waiting for!
She immediately asked without hesitation: "Mr. Baker, looking at Emmie right now, what's the one thing you most want to do to her?"
As soon as those words came out, the whole room went silent, everyone perking up their ears.
Grace's smile became even more strained, her nails digging into her palm where no one could see.
But Alex's dark eyes instantly locked onto Emily, a low laugh escaping his throat: "You should ask Emily that question - she knows."
As his words fell, the light on his sharp profile somehow took on an ambiguous quality.
Alex's gaze swept over everyone, and when his eyes locked on Emily, his thin lips silently formed words.
Make love.
Those words made Emily curse him silently for being shameless.
Grace's expression became even more unpleasant.
She stared over jealously, her fingertips nearly piercing her palm.
At this moment, Emily let out a cold laugh and stood up: "Mr. Baker's thoughts are hard to guess. If you can't play fair, forget it."
Before Alex could speak, Emily spun the bottle herself.
And this time, it pointed at Grace.
Emily smiled: "Miss Miller, lucky you. Truth or dare?"
Grace tried to stay calm, "I'll go with the same as Alex - tr-truth."
Oh?
Emily perked up with interest, delivering a killing blow: "Miss Miller often posts about getting married. When will you and Mr. Baker be sending out invitations?"
In an instant, the room fell silent.
"What posts?"
"I haven't seen any. Grace, did you block me?" The rich kid quickly pulled out his phone.
But even after clicking into Grace's profile, he couldn't find any mention of marriage.
Alex asked: "What posts."
Grace's eyes reddened, saying aggrieved: "Alex, Miss Johnson must have seen wrong, I didn't..."
The more she tried to cover it up, the more obvious it became.
Alex's voice turned ice-cold: "What did you post."
Emily leaned back on the sofa, her fingertips lightly tapping the rim of her glass, half-smiling: "Why don't you show us?"
Visibly, Grace panicked.
Rachel scoffed, "Go on, keep pretending. Not showing off now?"
Grace gritted her teeth: "Is it fun ganging up on me like this? Miss Johnson, there's no need to embarrass me. I'll just leave."
With that, she looked at Alex pitifully: "Alex, can you take me home?"
Alex's gaze was chillingly intense: "What exactly happened? Speak."
For a moment, everyone was stunned.
Was this the same Alex who couldn't bear to use a harsh tone with Grace?
