Chapter 54 Gossip Fills the Sky

Chapter 54 Gossip Fills the Sky

She was absolutely furious. What on earth was this man trying to do?

Alex ignored her completely and pulled her into his arms. "Sleep."

Seeing this, Emily couldn't break free, so she simply forced herself to fall asleep.

Early the next morning.

As soon as dawn broke, Emily was woken up by her phone vibrating like crazy.

"Hello, Rachel?" She opened her eyes groggily.

As soon as she answered, she heard Rachel shouting anxiously and angrily, "Emmie! Check your phone now, the trending topics have exploded!"

"You and Matthew were caught on camera!"

What?!

Emily instantly woke up, her heart sinking. She quickly opened her phone.

At the top of the trending list was a photo of her and Matthew, taken from a tricky angle that made them look especially intimate.

This was... from a few days ago when Matthew drove her home.

Emily's delicate eyebrows furrowed. The trending topic actually said Mrs. Baker cheating during marriage?

They even made up rumors that she was unfaithful in her marriage and had unclear relationships with many people.

The comment section was filled with insults.

All kinds of vulgar language were simply unbearable.

Emily's face turned pale. "How could this..."

But before she could recover from the shock, her phone was snatched away.

Alex's face was cold. "Don't you want to explain?"

Emily looked at the suspicion in his eyes, her heart instantly turning ice cold. "What, can't the great Mr. Baker tell that someone is deliberately stirring things up?"

"You think I can't tell if the pictures are photoshopped? These are completely unedited originals!" He suddenly grabbed Emily's wrist. "You and Matthew, what exactly is your relationship?"

Her delicate wrist immediately turned red. The pain made Emily shake off the man's hand. "If you don't trust me, don't ask me!"

Alex blocked her way. "Emily, you just want to be with him as soon as possible, so you're in such a rush to divorce me?"

"I'm not!" Emily completely broke down, trembling with anger. "Alex, you don't believe me at all! We're getting divorced soon anyway, I don't need to explain anything to you! Get out of my way!"

She got up to leave.

Right now, the priority was to find Matthew to handle the public opinion.

Someone was clearly deliberately guiding this, and she couldn't drag Matthew down with her.

Seeing her impatience, Alex's aura erupted.

He pulled the woman into his arms, his hand gripping her slender waist with such force it seemed like he would crush her bones.

"Where are you going? To find Matthew? Emily, don't forget you're not divorced yet. Are you in such a hurry to go have an affair with him?"

In that instant, Emily's face turned as pale as paper.

She looked up in disbelief. "Af... affair?"

Those two words were like a sharp knife, stabbing hard into Emily's heart.

Alex met her shocked and hurt eyes, his throat tightening. "I didn't mean—"

Emily's years of pain erupted completely in this moment.

She used all her strength to slap Alex hard across the face. The crisp sound of the slap exploded in the bedroom, and the air instantly froze.

Emily looked at him with disappointment, her eyes surging with extreme sarcasm. "Affair? Alex, you really have some nerve saying that."

"No matter how low I, Emily, might be, I would never do such a thing in a marriage."

"You can not love me, not cherish me, but you can't trample on me like this!"

Her voice trembled, yet every word was heartbreaking.

Alex's tongue touched the bloody corner of his mouth. Looking up at Emily's eyes, he suddenly felt a dull pain. "Sorry, I just now..." Lost my mind.

An almost uncontrollable possessiveness swept over him crazily. He couldn't control it. He wanted to apologize, but the words only turned to dryness in his mouth.

Emily just felt it was incredibly ironic. "Three years. I've stayed with a husband whose heart belongs to someone else."

"Even when Grace came to the old house with a child, I never once crossed the line."

"But you, you just throw around words like 'affair.' Alex, do you even have a heart?"

She laughed, a laugh that was heartless and cutting.

With that, she didn't look at him again and rushed out of the room without looking back.

In the living room, Andrew and the others were startled by the commotion.

They had just come out and only saw Emily's departing figure.

Alex stood at the bedroom door, his face terrifyingly dark, with a clear handprint on half his face.

"What, what happened?" Lillian's face turned pale as she hurried forward.

Alex's fists slowly clenched. Without explaining, he just said in a low voice. "I'm going to the office first."

His tone was emotionless, yet cold and distant. The noble aloofness emanating from him made people afraid to approach.

With that, he turned and left.

Andrew watched his retreating figure and let out a heavy sigh.

Half an hour later.

Grace was waiting downstairs at Baker Corporation. "Alex!"

She was holding an exquisite breakfast box, wearing a light-colored dress.

Seeing Alex's car pull up, she immediately went forward, her eyes showing just the right amount of tenderness. "Alex, I just got out of the hospital. When you didn't come pick me up, I knew you must be busy. I figured you definitely didn't eat breakfast this morning, so I brought you some. I made it myself."

Alex's face was still cold, with hostility lingering between his brows.

He rolled down his window halfway. "You're not well, you didn't need to make a special trip."

"I'm fine, not tired at all." Grace smiled gently, but then noticed the handprint on his face.

A flash of satisfaction quickly passed through Grace's eyes, but her words became even more gentle. "Oh my! Alex, what happened to your face? Let's go upstairs quickly, I'll take care of it for you."

Alex's eyes grew colder. "It's nothing. Get in the car."

The luxury car drove all the way into the company's underground parking.

The two took the elevator to go upstairs.

Just as the elevator reached the third floor, Grace's eyes shifted, and she spoke as if casually. "The internet is so advanced now, you can see all kinds of fresh news."

"Alex, guess what I saw this morning? I think I saw Miss Johnson and the Moore family heir about to have good news."

"I don't know if it's true or not, but the photos I saw looked so sweet. Should we take some photos like that too?"

Alex's brows furrowed tightly, even feeling a bit irritated. "Stop talking."

Grace said no more, but as she lowered her eyes, a sinister smile flashed across her face.

The position of Mrs. Baker would be hers sooner or later!

At the same time.

Emily took a cab directly to the Moore family company.

As soon as the receptionist saw her, she respectfully let her through. "Mr. Moore has already given instructions that Miss Johnson can go up anytime she comes."

Emily was stunned. "Thank you."

She didn't expect him to be so thoughtful. Did he already know she would come?

However, she didn't know that after Matthew returned from abroad, the first thing he did when taking over the company was notify his staff.

Whenever Emily came, they should treat her the same as if they were seeing him in person.
