Chapter 25 Why Not Jealous

Chapter 25 Why Not Jealous

But some of her design drafts were still at the apartment, and with the deadline approaching fast, she'd left in a rush.
She unbuckled her seatbelt and rushed out, forgetting she still wore his jacket and didn't even say goodbye.

Alex's eyes turned cold. Did she just treat him like a driver?

His brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, a flash of displeasure crossing his eyes.

He drove off directly, then took out his phone and called Grace. "Yeah, almost there. Everything's arranged at the hospital, you can come down now."

A soft, delicate voice came from the other end. Alex hung up right after.

The car wasn't heading toward the company, but toward the hospital.

Alex didn't even realize he was missing something.

Emily rushed upstairs, had just pulled out several draft sketches from her desk to check them over, and was about to open her computer when the jacket on her shoulders suddenly slipped off.

She froze.

Then quickly picked up the black suit jacket from the floor, instantly realizing—this was Alex's jacket!

She'd forgotten to return it and had worn it all the way here.

Emily tapped her forehead in frustration. "How could I forget about this?"

Even her dress had picked up the cedar scent from his body.

Her cheeks warmed slightly. She was about to fold it and smooth out the wrinkles when she accidentally touched the pocket area.

Suddenly, Emily paused.

She felt something... cylindrical?

Alex never kept anything in his suit pockets—this was unusual.

She hesitantly pulled it out, and her eyes immediately narrowed.

Her body stiffened slightly. It was a limited edition lipstick, and the shade was the currently trending "man-killer" color.

Emily's fingertips paused, understanding dawning.

This pure yet seductive shade was most likely Grace's.

Well, Emily suddenly laughed, though with a hint of bitterness.

Of course, Grace held a special place in Alex's heart. It was perfectly normal for him to carry her lipstick around.

She held the lipstick between her fingers, and without realizing it, her fingertips turned white. Then she laughed at herself again.

Whatever. She and Alex were getting divorced anyway—who cared who was around him?

Emily put the lipstick back in the pocket, folded the jacket neatly and placed it on the sofa nearby, thinking she'd return it to him tonight. Taking a deep breath, she threw herself completely into her work.

At the same time, at the hospital.

Alex had already arranged for a top medical team, with everything fast-tracked.

All the prenatal checkup procedures and processes were top-tier, just to ensure the health of Grace and her unborn child.

The doctor came out and said respectfully, "Mr. Baker, please wait with Miss Miller for a moment. All results will be expedited."

Alex grunted, his chiseled face showing no emotion.

Half an hour later.

Grace, having just finished the last prenatal exam, smiled serenely.

She wore light makeup and a plain white dress, her smile radiant.

From the report in her hand, the baby was doing well.

Alex looked at her. "You look pale. Haven't been sleeping well lately?"

Grace glanced at him coquettishly. "Not at all, don't worry about me, I'm fine."

Then she pulled out a mirror from her bag to check, and indeed her complexion was somewhat pale. "Maybe it's because I'm not wearing lipstick. By the way Alex, where's the lipstick I left in your jacket pocket last time? I want to touch up my makeup."

At those words, Alex froze, only now remembering that he'd given that jacket to Emily.

That woman had been in such a hurry getting out of the car, she hadn't returned it at all.

As for Grace's lipstick, naturally it was still with her.

Grace was perceptive enough to guess something from his expression.

Damn it!

That woman had found another opportunity to worm her way in these past few days.

A cold gleam flashed through Grace's carefully made-up eyes, then she wrapped both hands around his arm. "What's wrong, is the lipstick missing?"

Alex calmly withdrew his hand. "Yeah, I'll bring it to you next time."

Grace's smile froze, her hands suspended in mid-air.

Then she asked casually, "Alex, where did you go? That lipstick was one you gave me before. I really love it, so I've been using it very carefully."

"Probably left it at the old mansion this morning."

The old mansion?

Grace smiled without warmth. No wonder there was a faint fragrance in the car!

Though it wasn't perfume, it was extremely subtle and lingering.

"Think about it again, I really do love it."

"...It's with Emily?" Alex's tone was flat. "I'll get it to you next time."

What?

He'd given the jacket to Emily? Grace was about to explode with anger, but had to hold it in. "Miss Johnson won't get the wrong idea, will she? You must explain it clearly to her. What if she misunderstands?"

However, hearing this, Alex suddenly felt irritated.

It had been most of the day since he'd dropped Emily off.

There was no way that woman hadn't noticed the lipstick.

Yet she'd kept so quiet about it—not a single questioning text or phone call?

Didn't she feel even a bit uncomfortable?

A cold smile curved Alex's lips. "No need to explain."

Because Emily simply didn't care.

When he'd brought Grace back to the Baker family and the old mansion before, Emily had shown no jealousy, as if even a second glance would be too much effort.

Thinking of this, Alex's expression darkened further, the emotions in his eyes unreadable and unfathomable.

She no longer had any place for him in her heart.

Otherwise she wouldn't have agreed to the divorce so readily, wouldn't be so resistant to any contact with him.

"I see."

Grace didn't ask further, just lowered her head to hide the darkness in her eyes. Her hand hanging by her side gripped the corner of her dress tightly.

She never imagined that even with their divorce approaching, Emily was still haunting them!

First clinging to Alex, and now playing tricks again.

The next second, Grace looked up, gently moving closer. "Alex, I can just take a cab back myself. You still have work at the company, go ahead and take care of it. The checkup's done—don't let me hold up your business."

At this, Alex nodded. "Be safe then."

Actually hearing that he wouldn't take her home, Grace couldn't feel happy about it. She forced a smile and watched Alex leave.

She stood there, her nails nearly digging into her palms.

She immediately hailed a taxi, heading straight for Emily's apartment!

She knew the general location.

She wanted to see just how shameless Emily could be!

Two hours later, Emily's doorbell rang.

Emily was at her desk working on sketches when she looked up in confusion. "Who would come at this hour?"

Besides, wasn't this apartment only known to her and Alex?

Emily pressed her lips together, put down her brush, and went to answer the door.

But she came face to face with Grace's seemingly pure and gentle face.
