Chapter 291 Leaving
Chapter 291 Leaving
Third-personal perspective.
Alex's lips curled into a satisfied smile.
He couldn't help but wonder what Eder had thought in his final moments, realizing there wasn't a single person in his family capable of protecting his precious flowers.
He clicked his tongue in disapproval.
Eder couldn't rely on those useless relatives, so he turned to Aurora.
Eder had really banked on her kindness.
Aurora pressed her lips together.
Her heart felt like it was trapped in a small box, making her agitated as she ruffled her hair.
"What makes him so sure I'll do it?"
He just handed over his inheritance to her, without any fear that she might destroy his flowers the moment she got it?
He was dead, after all.
What made him think she would take care of his flowers, his mansion, his greenhouse?
Aurora was frustrated, and buried within that frustration was a self-loathing that made her want to knock some sense into herself.
Because she realized that she really couldn't bring herself to destroy everything that existed because of Winslow.
Alex seemed to notice Aurora's inner turmoil and patted her head with a hint of helplessness.
"Don't stress yourself out so much. Just do what you think is right."
The crowd around them started to stir again.
Alan's face was so grim it was impossible to ignore.
He hadn't expected that everything he brought would end up aiding his enemies.
They tried to resist again, but this time, Aurora just gave them a calm glance.
"Get them out of my estate."
Even though she felt a bit manipulated by Eder, she couldn't deny that the power she now held was intoxicating.
Alex's bodyguards and the ones Eder left for her moved simultaneously.
In three minutes, everyone was gone from her sight.
She believed that the next time they met, these people would have figured things out.
She patted Alex's chest.
"Though I don't know how things ended up like this."
"But from now on, I'll protect you."
She quickly embraced her new role.
Aurora lifted her chin, "As the wife of the head of the Phillips family, I want to see who dares to give you a hard time in the future!"
Alex couldn't help but chuckle, "So bold?"
"Honestly, I feel like I can do anything I want right now."
"Only now? Seems like I didn't give you enough confidence before."
"It's different this time."
This time, the power was in her own hands.
"If you had a tail, it would be wagging right now."
Eleven's lips also curled into a smile. She looked at the lawyer waiting nearby: "Since Ms. Ross has inherited everything from the former head, does that include an antidote?"
As soon as she asked, both Aurora and Alex turned their gazes towards the lawyer.
Eleven had only asked out of a slim hope.
To her surprise, the lawyer nodded, "Yes, Mr. Eder Phillips did leave instructions for that."
When the pill was finally handed to Aurora and she swallowed it with water, both she and Alex felt a weight lift off their shoulders.
......
On the day they left the estate, Aurora sat in the car saying goodbye to Eleven. She was very quiet.
But after spending so much time together, Aurora could easily see the reluctance in Eleven's eyes.
Aurora sighed, "I'll be back in a couple of weeks."
She had stayed at the estate for too long and needed to get out and handle some things.
"While I'm gone, the estate is in your hands."
With the change in ownership, there would undoubtedly be many adjustments.
Aurora left Eder's bodyguards with Eleven to help manage the estate.
"Oh, and keep investigating the stolen gem until you find the culprit."
Eleven was about to nod when she heard her new boss continue.
"When you find them, cut off one of their arms."
"He knew that Eder would kill many innocent people because of his theft, yet he still refused to confess."
"Leaving him alive is already merciful enough."
If she hadn't taken the blame, who knows how many families would have lost loved ones.
Eleven was stunned, watching the window slowly rise until she could no longer see Aurora's face.
It was strange. Aurora's voice was the same as always, but somehow, it had become filled with authority.
The months spent at the estate had perhaps changed Aurora in many ways.
She just hadn't realized it yet.
......
What Aurora didn't know was that as soon as the window closed, she couldn't sit still, fidgeting next to Alex.
Alex glanced at her. "Is there a thorn in the seat?"
Aurora was silent. She rolled her eyes.
"You don't understand."
He really didn't understand what could make her so restless.
Aurora sighed. She was anxious.
"I haven't managed Future City for months. I'm definitely going to get scolded."
She couldn't imagine how angry Banks and the others would be.
Hearing about Future City, Alex was a bit surprised.
So it was she who had the sharp eye to seize Future City back then?
Then his mouth twitched.
No wonder she had given him such a hard time when he tried to acquire Future City.
"This is the first time I've seen a boss afraid of their employees."
Aurora replied, "You don't know anything."
Alex was silent.
Had her language become more coarse?
Since he couldn't empathize with that, he tried another approach.
"I'm pregnant and haven't been home for months. Have you thought about how to explain this to my parents?"
Alex's eyelid twitched, and he sat up straight.
This... definitely needed some thought.
......
When the car finally stopped in front of Aurora's house, she got out, but noticed Alex wasn't following.
Aurora asked, "What are you still sitting there for?"
Alex paused, then said, "You go in first."
Aurora laughed.
So Alex could be scared, too.
"Alright, I'll go in first. Come in when you're ready."
Alex nodded, his expression calm, but his tightly pressed lips betrayed his nervousness.
He knew that no matter how angry Aurora's parents were, they wouldn't really make things difficult for her.
But he was a different story.
If it were the old him, they might have welcomed him warmly.
But now, he had brought so much trouble and suffering to Aurora.
It made him lose confidence when facing her parents.
He knew that even if Aurora's parents didn't like him, Aurora wouldn't leave him.
But he didn't want Aurora to be caught between him and her parents.
He wanted to earn her parents' approval and blessing on his own.
That way, Aurora could truly be happy.
He sat in the car for a long time, and finally, he opened the door.
