Chapter 289 Exposing the Lies
Chapter 289 Exposing the Lies
Aurora Ross's POV:
"Hold up."
An unwelcome voice cut through the somber atmosphere.
"Grandpa's funeral, and I didn't get an invite? That's just cold."
Alex and I turned to see who it was, then scoffed in disdain.
"Alan Phillips."
I had almost forgotten this guy existed.
He was dressed in a black suit, casually making his way through the crowd.
I glanced at his outfit, then at Alex beside me. Even their cold expressions were strikingly similar.
You could almost believe they were twins.
And it was clear why he was here.
For the inheritance.
A faint smile played on his lips, and his eyes were full of provocation as he looked at Alex.
"Your will is fake."
Gasps erupted around us. My fingers curled slightly, but I stayed calm. "Got proof?"
He raised an eyebrow and nodded slightly.
An elderly man stepped out from behind him.
Eleven frowned. "Grandpa?"
Harry kept his head down, holding another document.
He didn't look up at Eleven's voice, but loudly announced to everyone around.
"Before the head of the family passed away, he called me into his room and personally set the will in front of me."
"He told me that aside from this document, he wouldn't acknowledge any other will and not to trust any papers anyone else presented!"
"I have video evidence!"
He held up his phone high, showing Eder lying on a hospital bed, looking disheveled but with eyes still sharp as a hawk.
He wore a smug smile, as if he had anticipated today's situation.
The murmurs around us grew louder, like mosquitoes buzzing incessantly in my ears.
Scornful laughter, contemptuous glances, malicious whispers.
In this noisy chaos, I didn't feel the loss or embarrassment of the will being exposed, just a sense of confusion and sadness.
I turned my head, looking at Alex, who had remained silent.
How could someone be so heartless?
The last thing Eder did before dying was to scheme against his own grandson.
And Eder was Alex's only grandpa.
"Alex."
He glanced at me, then raised an eyebrow.
"Why the face? Feeling sorry for me?"
The more indifferent he acted, the more my nose stung.
"If he doesn't want to give it, we don't need his will. The company and organization were built because of you."
"You're the best wherever you go!"
He gave a resigned smile. "I really don't care. I saw this coming a long time ago."
"Besides, I despise everything here."
"If it stayed in my hands, I'd just destroy it."
His fingers brushed past my cheek, cold to the touch.
I pressed my lips together. "I'm sorry."
The video Harry presented was filmed in the hospital room.
It was after I had driven the Phillips family out.
If I hadn't shown that bit of compassion, he wouldn't have had the chance to set the will alone.
This wouldn't be happening now.
Alex's fingers pinched my cheek.
"Do you know what I'm thinking when I see you like this?"
I looked up, dazed, with unshed tears in my eyes.
His smile grew more pronounced, his gaze turning dangerous and wild.
He lowered his voice, speaking in my ear.
"I want you."
"The more guilty you feel, the more I want you."
I was speechless.
Even though I knew he was saying this to distract me, it was quite effective.
I couldn't cry at all now.
I rolled my eyes.
Alan spoke, "Hey, I'm still standing here."
"Could you two show me some respect?"
I looked at him with annoyance.
Looked like I didn't hit him hard enough last time.
With that smug look, did he really inherit the estate?
I turned to Harry, my expression much colder.
He seemed to notice, looking a bit embarrassed.
"Sorry, Ms. Ross, I'm just following orders."
I scoffed. "Didn't see you being this obedient when Eder was sick."
Everyone knew who had poisoned Eder.
Harry's face turned pale instantly, his lips trembling. "I... so... I wanted to make amends."
Fifty years of master-servant relationship, yet it ended with him poisoning Eder.
Of course, he would feel pain, but he had no choice.
I looked at his weathered face and spoke with contempt.
"Hypocrite. Only after he's dead do you want to make amends."
"Not sure if you're making amends to Eder or just trying to feel better yourself."
My words were like needles, piercing him one after another.
Since they had teamed up against Alex, I wouldn't show them any mercy.
Alan: "Is this anger..."
"Shut up."
I nodded slightly, and the bodyguard stepped forward.
"Until the will is announced, you have no right to speak."
"By the way, let me remind you, Dolly the cloned sheep only lived for six years."
"The same perfume smells good on Alex, but on you, it's just disgusting."
I covered my nose, as if seeing something filthy.
My smile turned malicious.
"A knockoff with everything copied from someone else has no rights."
"You'll live in Alex's shadow for the rest of your life."
Third-Person Perspective:
Alan's smile faded, and his gaze at Aurora revealed suppressed murderous intent.
Being raised as someone's substitute for half his life, he hated being called a knockoff the most.
Clearly, Aurora knew this well and was deliberately provoking him.
Alex chuckled, gently pulling Aurora into his arms.
He watched her, usually not one for arguments, now bristling like an angry cat, full of aggression.
He knew she felt it was unfair for him, felt wronged on his behalf.
That was why she had shown that tender expression earlier, almost suffocating.
He sighed softly, holding Aurora tighter.
Alan had stared at her for too long, long enough for Alex to feel his territory was being invaded.
He raised his eyes slightly, his gaze cold as he looked at Alan.
"Look at her again, and I'll gouge your eyes out."
Alan looked at the two standing united, laughing in anger.
Alan glared at them fiercely, then turned to Harry. "Announce the will!"
"Without the company and organization, Alex is nothing."
"I want to see if they can still laugh!"
