Chapter 76 Unknown New Girl
Chapter 76 Unknown New Girl
SICILY, ITALY
In a dark dungeon, a girl with brown wavy hair, curled her bloodied fingers against the bars of a cell.
The dungeon smelt like stale blood, damp earth and the air was stagnant.
For the past month and some weeks, she has been locked in here as a prisoner, never seeing the light of day.
She was used to it.
Used to darkness.
In fact, black was her favorite colour.
Her eyes darted to the guard she had just killed, his blood pooling underneath the cell, she stretched her hands reaching for the key that would set her free.
Her eyes shone with determination.
Finally, she would be setting herself free without giving out the information they wanted from her.
Never in her life would she sell out her best friend. Death would be the best thing.
Sighing exhaustively, she forced her injured body to her feet, then unlocked her cell with shaky hands.
The dungeon was purely dark with no source of light to guard her but having spent more than a month there, she knew her way around.
Walking towards the entrance door would be a death sentence.
There was no other exit. She would have to climb over the wall to reach the single window.
She didn't have the strength.
She didn't even know how to climb over something.
And she was injured. Very badly.
Her lips were broken. Blood had dried around her forehead— she had been wounded there.
Her limbs were broken, her thighs had been stabbed with a pocket knife.
Fuck!
She exhaled sharply through gritted teeth.
She had no other choice.
She walked back to the dead man she had killed and took off his clothes leaving him stark naked.
She looked at the tray of food she had been served. Watery green beans with stale bread.
She ignored everything else in the tray and took the fork.
Using the sharp piece of the fork and the pin from his belt, she tore the guards clothes to make them longer.
After a while of hurting the web of her thumb and index finger she tied the ends of the pieces clothes to make them longer.
Then finally she tied the end leather strap of the belt around a piece of clothe.
Standing at five foot six she threw the belt upwards in such a way that the metal part hooked on the flat groove of the window.
She tugged it down, testing its strength and it held.
Finally!
She held the clothes and began climbing the wall to reach the window.
It was difficult, especially because of the wounds she had incurred but she made it to the top.
Heaving out a relieved sigh, her happiness was easily deflated when the dungeon door swung open.
Her eyes slashed on a guard who looked angry.
"Hey! She's escaping. Quickly tell the boss and gather more men quickly."
The guards hurried to drag her down through her escape route— the improvised rope she just made.
Fuck!
Fuck!!
She wouldn't have the time to swing the improvised rope over to the other side to get down.
The muscles in her throat tightened.
She wasn't going to let them get to her.
She had been planning this for days.
No way was she going to let herself get caught.
A sudden surge of adrenaline tingled her skin, she didn't hesitate she jumped, down to the other side of the dungeon. Outside
She didn't wait to catch or relieve the instant pain that poured over her body, she ran.
Ran like she was being chased by the devil.
Ran like she was being hunted down by a pack of wolves.
Ran like her life was at stake— which it was.
She didn't dare slow down to catch her breath.
Her lungs were burning for oxygen, the air slicing against her injured skin.
She didn't even know where she had to stop.
But heavy footsteps were resounding behind her.
She could hear their voices.
"Hey! Stop right there!" The men were screaming angrily.
A thread of fear swam into her skin but she shook her head.
"You can do this, Serah. You can." She tightened her face, running faster as her bare feet scraped against small sharp stones.
"Argh!" She winced, the pain moving through her whole body.
She soon realized she was in a large estate and she would have to pass through the main gates to escape.
Dammit!
The distance between the men who chased her were bigger now.
She luckily found the parts that led to the main gates.
Guards were already positioned there as if waiting for her.
What was she going to do?
What could she do?
So they were going to kill her now.
She knew it.
They had locked her up thinking that she was going to concede but now that they knew the fire coursing through her body, she could be deemed useless by the Don.
Shit!
But she didn't dare stop.
She would have to get past them by any means.
There were a total of five guards ahead waiting for her.
She believed she could do this!
Having single-handedly killed a guard, fire was burning directly at her skin.
Over her dead body would she get caught!
She paused for a while, and selected a few sharp small and big stones.
She didn't wait until she reached then she flung one fat stone in her guard and it landed on his eyes.
A painful scream tore out of him immediately. He dropped to his knees.
She aimed at a small guard, and the stone landed on his eyes too. He groaned in pain, holding his hands against his eyes.
But then each stone she began throwing, the other three guards escaped it.
Nothing reached them.
Shit!
Instead of waiting for her to reach them they ran towards her.
One punched her in her face.
She staggered, felt a leg that swooped her own legs and she fell flat to the ground.
"Argh!" She cried out, her injured thigh had scraped against a sharp stone.
Her wounds were torn open. She bled again.
"How dare you think you can outsmart the boss. You're going to die for this!"
Two guards grabbed her arms each. Then the other began punching her stomach again and again.
A final blow was given to her face then she collapsed on the ground, black dots blurring her vision.
She swallowed painfully, her eyes caught a gun tucked against the guards waist.
She had never used a gun before.
She didn't even know how to use it or how it felt like in the hands.
It was either she died now or later and she didn't choose any.
Gathering the strength she had left, pushing past her limits, she twisted her body as if trying to break free, using the sudden momentum to plunge her hand down toward his waist.
Click.
Her fingers collided with the cold, heavy steel of the firearm.
She gripped the handle on pure instinct, pulling it free from the holster before the guard could even register her movement.
Then pushed the two guards that held her backwards aiming the gun at them.
None of the guards had an
ticipated her next movements.
They thought she was weak. She wouldn't be able to aim right.
"Hey—!" one the guard barked, his face twisting into panic.
She didn't wait.
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!!!
