Chapter 16 016

Chapter 16 016
Alexander's POV

When we got there, Renee was still right where I left her, slapping herself nonstop. She didn't dare to stop, especially when I didn't ask her to stop.

If she had stopped slapping herself, thinking I wouldn't come back in here because I stormed off angrily, she would have really hated me because no one here in this clinic would like what I'd have done to her. However, she didn't. And the bright red bruise on her cheek was just enough to get Rage back in control around her.

And of course, she hadn't dared to take turns on both cheeks. She had hit Danica three times on the same side of her face, it was only fair that she had a taste of her own venom.

I would love to watch her hit herself for another hour… or two until her face and hand were numb enough to let her understand how far I'd go to make anyone that messes with my little Doc pay. But the pleading look in Danica's eyes when she finally looked at me after recovering from the shock of seeing Renee in the same position as we'd left her was something I couldn't ignore even if I wanted to.

“She only hit me three times, Alpha. It's not fair she have to do it many times on her own face…”

“Oh, it is, Danica. I didn't earn the name ruthless for the fucking fun of it, little Doc. I don't make people slap themselves when they make me mad, I make them beg for death. And trust me when I say she is grateful to be standing right there, hitting herself non stop— because she is” I told her sternly, my tone enough to show her I wasn't being sarcastic or narcissistic. It was the plain truth.

“You can't leave her like that…” she trailed off, nearly choking on the emotions that clouded her voice. Which was exactly what I had wanted to avoid.

“I can…” I muttered sternly, making her face fall as her eyes instantly watered, her expression screaming guilty as fuck.

“But I won't— on one condition” I added and her eyes instantly beamed, her teary eyes dissipating almost immediately.

“What condition?”

“You will call me Alexander from now on and not Alpha” I told her bluntly and I watched her jaw drop in disbelief. Of course, she hadn't expected me to ask for something as trivial as her calling me by my name.

“What?!”

“Deal or no deal, Danica?” I pressed, dying to hear her say my name with that silky smooth voice of hers.

“Deal” she muttered after a moment of hesitation. I took three long strides towards Renee and I stopped right in front of her.

“You can stop now, Renee. However, let this be the first and the last time something like this happens. You don't want to hear from me one more time, Ivan, trust me” I said at once, my expression and voice holding every hint of seriousness and unfailing promise. She nodded once, her movements slow and strained as she muttered “Yes Alpha”

She was sweating all over and her hands and cheeks had become a dark shade of red from all the pressure she tried hard to apply because she didn't want me to do it for her.

And what I'm seeing right here in front of me, is what I call ‘sweet revenge’. It doesn't matter if Renee was my favorite doctor. She crossed me, she got punished. I don't regret it. And I would do it again, probably even more if she ever lays her hands on my little Doc again.

“Thank you for your kindness, Alpha” Renee muttered, bowing as deep as she could manage but I didn't particularly give a shit about apologies or appreciation. What I cared about is the actions of whoever the person was. If a person was really sorry or grateful, it would manifest in how the person behaves from that time and moving forward.

“You know what Renee, I think it's best for Danica to opt in as an official royal doctor, maybe then it wouldn't feel like you got punished and blamed in vain?” I said smoothly, my words holding off silent mischief and Renee quickly shook her head, telling me she doesn't mind dealing with every treatment singlehandedly with the other interns and newbie nurses but what she doesn't know is that I didn't particularly need her permission and I already made up my mind even before I spoke about any of it.

“I'm not requesting a permission letter from you, Renee. I'm hiring Danica as a doctor in the royal clinic and that's final” I told her and she immediately snapped her lips shut.

“What?!” Danica exclaimed from the center of the room before taking heavy steps towards me.

“You don't have a particular job you're enrolled in right now do you?” I asked and she immediately shook her head; ‘No’

“Good. And no… I'm not hiring her as a newbie nurse nor as an intern. She'll be hired as a doctor, like you, Renee and I expect you to support her the best way you can” I said, facing the older Doctor and she nodded tightly. I could tell she had lots of protests about this… and I didn't blame her because I've been putting those applicants through trials and for over two decades, it had been the same, with no one who could prove themselves worthy of the position Renee held.

But all of a sudden, a frail looking woman suddenly showed up, always throwing herself out of her comfort zone the moment she saw someone get hurt, almost as if she had some kind of allergy to people getting hurt in front of her. It was commendable and she always looked like she knew exactly what the hell she was doing anytime she flipped up those weird gowns of hers and pulled out a scalpel— always ready to be the knight in medical armor.

“You have one week to prove yourself worthy of being a doctor in the royal clinic, Danica. Do you think you can handle it?” I asked and she hesitated for a while, her jaw still hanging open, shocked and probably expecting me to laugh and say I was only pulling Renee's legs but she knew I was serious when nothing of such happened.

“I… Yes, Yes I can… handle it, Alpha. I can” she muttered quickly after regaining her composure. She sounded like a giddy teenager, trying her hardest to look composed and refined on the surface.

Who winds up having this level of confidence when an Alpha requests a week to prove her ability? It was only Danica fucking Grayson.

No one ever pulled it off. That one week always means a week of hell, a week where egos and talents are dragged in the mud for the slightest mistakes but somehow, I believed Danica would pull it off.

I had no idea what medical school she went to or what made her passionate about saving lives. However, she wasn't the type that saved lives just to make a living for herself. I knew that much and maybe that explains why I had high hopes for her.

“Don’t disappoint me, Danica. You know what that means, don't you?” I asked and I saw her blink rapidly, her breath hitching before she nodded once.

“I won't, Ale… Alpha Alexander”
