Chapter 146 A Vow to Protect

Chapter 146 A Vow to Protect
The next morning, Alpha Rolex summoned Silver to his new study. The grand room, adorned with old teak wood ornaments, was once the place where Cassen ruled all clan affairs with an iron fist. Even though Silver was previously Cassen's right-hand man, he chose to remain under the new leadership to maintain the stability of the clan, which had been shaken enough by various dramatic events recently.

Silver knocked twice on the heavy wooden door before stepping inside. He stood tall and bowed his head in deep respect. "You called for me, Alpha?"

Alpha Rolex leaned back in the leadership chair, eyeing Silver with a calm yet sharp gaze.

"Come in, Silver. Sit down," Alpha Rolex said in a firm but gentle tone, gesturing toward the chair in front of his desk.

Silver nodded softly and took a seat. "Are there any specific orders for me today, Alpha?"

"There is an important matter that requires your expertise," Alpha Rolex replied softly. He took a deep breath, letting silence fill the room before continuing. "I want you to help me find information on the whereabouts of someone very important to me. His name is Gerald. He is my grandfather."

Silver was slightly taken aback to hear the name, his eyebrows subtly raised. However, as a professional bodyguard, he quickly composed his facial expression. "Grandfather Gerald? I will immediately assemble the entire team and track down his whereabouts, Alpha."

"Use covert channels," Alpha Rolex warned solemnly. "Do not let any outsiders or other clan members know you are searching for him."

"Understood, Alpha. I will handle this personally," Silver stated firmly.

With the vast information network he had long built as the trusted bodyguard of the previous clan leader, Silver worked quickly. Without wasting any time, he searched through various old records, scoured secret documents in the archive vault, and reached out to several trusted contacts across different regions. Silver's main mission was to trace Grandfather Gerald, who had long disappeared mysteriously from public records.

The search was filled with tension. After several hours of intensive tracking, Silver's computer screen finally displayed a disguised medical record. The crucial lead pointed toward a specialized care facility on the outskirts of the city—an isolated location that had been hidden from public knowledge all this time.

Hurriedly, Silver returned to his leader's study. He pushed the door open rather quickly.

"Alpha, I found Grandfather Gerald's whereabouts!" Silver reported enthusiastically, his eyes radiating relief.

Alpha Rolex stood up from his chair immediately. "Where is he, Silver? How is his condition?"

"He is at a specialized care facility in the northern outskirts," Silver answered, hesitating for a moment before completing his sentence. "However... the medical reports show that his condition is not very good, Alpha."

"Ready the car right now!" Alpha Rolex commanded without hesitation.

"Yes, Alpha. I will drive you myself," Silver replied promptly.

Without wasting a single moment, Alpha Rolex rushed out of the mansion. His heart was filled with a mixture of burning anxiety and soaring hope, after years of living in uncertainty without knowing any news of his grandfather—the loving figure he had admired so deeply since childhood.

The journey through the outskirts of the city felt agonizingly long to Alpha Rolex. When their black vehicle finally came to a stop in the courtyard of a quiet, secluded building, his chest pounded heavily.

Upon arriving at the care facility, Alpha Rolex and Silver were greeted by a nurse in a white uniform.

"Welcome, Alpha Rolex. We have been expecting your arrival," the nurse greeted warmly yet cautiously.

"Take me to his room now," Alpha Rolex cut in quickly, impatient.

"Please follow me," the nurse invited, leading them down a quiet corridor.

She led him to a simple yet well-maintained room at the end of the hallway. As the door was gently pushed open, the sight inside brought Alpha Rolex to a sudden halt.

There, sitting in a wheelchair staring blankly out the window, was an elderly man whose hair had turned completely white. The figure was Grandfather Gerald.

Alpha Rolex walked closer with extremely slow steps, as if afraid of shattering the silence or startling the old man. His heart trembled violently at the sight of his grandfather's condition, which was a far cry from the gallant, dignified, and warm figure he remembered from his childhood. Grandfather Gerald's body appeared frail and fragile. Even more heartbreakingly, his dim eyes stared blankly without expression, as though he recognized no one and nothing around him.

"Grandfather..." Alpha Rolex whispered softly, his voice trembling heavily.

He knelt beside the old wheelchair, holding Grandfather Gerald's cold, thin fingers. Tears began to well up and pool in his eyes. "It's me, Grandfather... Rolex. Your grandson. I finally found you..."

Grandfather Gerald offered no response whatsoever. His fingers remained limp, his eyes continuing to stare blankly at the trees outside the window, as if Rolex were nothing more than a passing breeze.

The nurse standing nearby stepped closer with a concerned look. "I am sorry, Alpha," she whispered gently. "Mr. Gerald's condition has declined drastically since the tragic events years ago. He suffered severe trauma that damaged his memory nerves."

"Can he not remember anything?" Alpha Rolex asked without looking away from his grandfather, his voice raspy.

"He has lost his ability to speak and is unable to recognize the people around him," the nurse explained empathetically. "He spends his days just sitting quietly like this."

Hearing the explanation, regret and pain struck Alpha Rolex's chest. Yet, his affection outweighed everything. Despite receiving no response, Alpha Rolex held his grandfather's frail body in a warm embrace. The tears he had held back in front of his subordinates finally flowed freely, soaking the shoulder of his shirt.

"It's okay, Grandfather," Alpha Rolex whispered into the old man's ear, his breath choked with emotion. "It's okay... I'm here now. I've won. I will take care of you and ensure you receive the best care for the rest of your life. No one can hurt you anymore."

Silver, standing near the door, bowed his head, sharing the deep sorrow that encompassed his new leader. For a few moments, Alpha Rolex allowed himself to drown in the overflowing grief, reminiscing about his happy childhood when Grandfather Gerald taught him courage, before a dark tragedy shattered their family.

However, amidst the quiet, emotional moment, a strong vibration from Alpha Rolex's suit pocket broke the silence. His phone rang repeatedly, forcing him back into the harsh reality filled with responsibilities as the new Alpha of the Moreno Clan.

Alpha Rolex wiped away his tears, took a deep breath, and pulled out his phone. He opened the newly arrived encrypted message. As his eyes scanned line after line of the official announcement on the screen, his pupils narrowed sharply.

The message delivered shocking news: Moza Group, the giant conglomerate that was once Cassen's pride and power base, had officially changed ownership. Even more surprising, its new head was Alpha Cimone. In an official statement, Cimone even openly expressed his desire to meet Alpha Rolex immediately to discuss future strategic cooperation.

Alpha Rolex furrowed his brow deeply. A cold sense of alertness suddenly arose, sweeping away the sorrow that had wrapped around him moments ago.

"What is it, Alpha?" asked Silver, noticing the shift in his leader's aura.

Alpha Rolex showed his phone screen to Silver. "Look at this."

Silver read the message, his eyes widening. "Alpha Cimone? How could he possibly take over Moza Group in such a short amount of time?"

"Cimone is a figure who was once known as Cassen's closest ally," Alpha Rolex muttered softly in a cold tone. "Now he suddenly emerges as the new owner of Moza Group... This move is too fast. Too neat to be considered a mere coincidence."

"Do you think he is planning something to avenge Cassen's defeat?" Silver asked cautiously.

Alpha Rolex stared at his phone screen with a sharp, threatening glint in his eyes.

"It seems," Alpha Rolex murmured softly yet emphatically, "I must immediately prepare for a new chapter in this fight. An unexpected old enemy has resurfaced under a new mask."

Alpha Rolex looked back at Grandfather Gerald for a moment, holding the frail hand tightly once more before standing tall. With a heart still filled with grief over his grandfather's condition, but now shielded by a high wall of vigilance against the looming new threat, Alpha Rolex made his resolve.

"I will not let anyone hurt my family again."
