Chapter 50 Chapter Fifty
Chapter 50 Chapter Fifty
Isolde
I sat on the edge of the bed, still wearing the torn remnants of my dress, staring at the wall like it held answers.
The fight with Celeste kept replaying in my head on an endless loop.
Her wolf lunging at me. My claws raking down her side. The metallic taste of her blood in my mouth. The satisfying crack of the coffee table when I slammed her into it. The way she had looked up at me shocked, furious and defeated right before I leaned in and whispered those final words in her ear.
“The omega beats the princess every single time.”
I should have felt victorious. I should have felt powerful.
Instead, I felt empty.
My body still ached from the fight… and from the sex that had come before it. Zander’s hands on my hips and his cock slamming into me so deep I felt it in my soul. The way he had growled my name like it was the only word he knew. The thick heat of his cum flooding me, leaking down my thighs even now.
I pressed my thighs together, a fresh wave of heat rushing through me at the memory.
God, what is wrong with me?
I had gone to his penthouse angry and overwhelmed, intending to… what? Fuck the confusion out of both of us? Use him the way Maren accused me of using him? Or had I just needed to feel something real after Maren’s disappointment and the weight of everything I was carrying?
Maren.
Guilt twisted sharp in my chest.
I had screamed at her. Accused her of things I knew weren’t entirely fair. She had sacrificed so much to give me this chance... the vial, the training, the new identity and I had thrown it back in her face because Zander made me feel things I wasn’t supposed to feel.
I should go to her, apologize. Tell her I was sorry for losing control. Tell her I was still committed to the plan.
But the thought of facing her right now made my stomach turn.
Instead, my mind kept drifting back to Zander. The way he had looked at me when I said “fuck me.” The raw hunger in his eyes. The way he had fucked me like he was trying to punish us both for wanting each other. The way he had filled me so completely I could still feel him inside me hours later.
He doesn’t know who I really am.
That thought both relieved me and terrified me.
He still thought I was Iris. The successful businesswoman. The bold woman who dared challenge his world. He didn’t know I was the girl he had once rejected on his father’s orders. The girl he had called disgusting in front of the entire pack.
And if he ever found out…
A sharp knock on the door jolted me out of my thoughts.
My heart slammed against my ribs.
I wasn’t expecting anyone.
I stood slowly, smoothing down what was left of my torn dress, and walked to the door.
When I opened it, the air left my lungs.
Zander Ashveil stood there, looking like a storm about to break.
His shirt was wrinkled, hair messy, eyes dark and burning with something dangerous. His jaw was clenched so tight I could see the muscle ticking. He looked...furious. Like a bear ready to tear apart anything in his path.
And he was staring straight at me.
For one long, frozen second, neither of us spoke.
Then his voice came out low, rough, and chilling.
“You lied to me.”
The words hung in the air between us like a death sentence.
In that moment, I knew everything had just changed.
