CHAPTER 042
CHAPTER 042
JESSICA’S POV
“Shhh! Easy… You don’t need to fight it! I whispered into Dominic’s ear, brushing loose strands of hair off his face. He lay there, unaware of what I was about to do. If by chance he thought I was going to be the fool and let him frolic around town with that whore, then he must be mistaken.
I carefully tucked away the small vial containing the remaining sleeping pill I had slipped into his drink before turning my attention back to him and pulled him.
“Damn! You…are fucking…heavy!” my voice broke as I panted, pulling him into bed. “Huhh!” I sat for a while after I did, trying to catch my breath before rolling my loose hair into a quick bun.
I looked at the time, it was just after 8 p.m. His breath was already deep and coarse. I rose up, searching for his mobile phone. “Where is your phone?” I muttered, scanning the bed. I tucked my hand into his pockets but found nothing. “Where is the damn phone?” I snarled, frustration was beginning to crawl up my chest when my knee pressed on something beneath the duvet.
“There you are,” I raked through until its edge glistened under the light. I picked it up, sitting back on the edge of the bed before clicking the power button.
The screen light glowed but it was locked. “Damn it! Face verification,” I glanced at him, sleeping peacefully unaware of his environment.
I held the phone over his face for a moment but the scan failed. “Huh?” My brows furrowed. “It’s got to be it,” I murmured, trying again but the error message kept popping until I realized the lightning was not enough. I turned on the table lamp on the bedside stool and tried again. “Bingo!” It worked.
I giggled, scooting back to the other side of the bed. His leg laid diagonally obstructing my space. I kicked it off like a rag doll and sat cross-legged, clutching his phone. I didn’t hesitate to swipe through to his WhatsApp message.
Hers was the first. Apparently she was the one he was texting on his way up to the room. My chest curled with envy. I read through the message and his response. I could have felt angry, but the universe was already working in my favor.” I didn't have to wait that long to strike anymore.
After the confirmation from my friend, Claire, I didn't just sit back at home whining in heartbreak. I began to sort out ways to get the leech off Dominic. First was the IT guy in the control room. I had some men threaten to eliminate his family if he didn't comply with my request.
It was a simple one. “Take over the shift from anyone who would be on duty at the control room on the day I intend to pick up Ivy. Make sure everything went right—no suspicion and no record of me on the camera.” That was all I asked.
Everything was going according to plan. I clicked on the reply arrow and typed another message to her.
Hey, Ivy! Change of plans. I’d be picking you up tomorrow. But if I can’t make it earlier due to office work, I’ll send someone to come get you. Is that okay?
I re-read the message again to be certain nothing was suspicious and that I sounded like Dominic would have. Once confirmed, I clicked the send icon.
For a while, I just sat there, rocking myself back and forth with the phone pressed against my forehead, waiting for a response. My thoughts kept going wild.
“Come on, bitch,” I whispered, gritting my teeth. “Respond to the damn text,” taking a look at the screen again.
While I waited, I took time to go through his other texts with chats that had female display profiles and damn! All I could say is, Dominic is a savage, cold-hearted person. The manner at which he turned down requests and meetups by ladies, shocked me and at the same time, made me wonder. What was special about Ivy?
I had barely figured this out when the phone buzzed in my hand and it was Ivy again. I opened up her text and read.
YIPPEE! ALRIGHT THEN, SEE YOU BY MORNING.
I smiled mischievously. Sending another response.
NO CALLS, NO TEXTS, REMEMBER? I MIGHT BE AT A MEETING. I'D CALL WHEN I'M FREE. GOODNIGHT .
Her response came almost immediately this time, affirming my instructions. Afterward, I deleted the texts and returned his phone.
“Hmm..Claire,” I muttered, reaching for my own phone and putting a call across to her.
“Hey Claire,” I greeted.
“Hello Jess,” she rasped sleepily. “What's with the late night call? Is everything okay?” She queried.
“I'm so sorry for waking you up. Everything is fine. I just wanted to disturb you a bit but trust me, I didn't want to, it just happened abruptly,” I began.
A noisy crack from her end stung my ears when she tried to get up from bed. “Uhhmm..sorry. I just had to sit up to get you properly. So, what's so urgent that you couldn't wait till morning?” She asked.
I need you to do something for me tomorrow,” I said quickly, my tone firm. “Listen carefully.”
Claire sighed. I could feel her rolling her eyes at me already. “Jess, please, not another one of your crazy stuff and threat shits again. I can’t…”
“Just listen,” I interrupted. “I know we talked about me coming to the hospital sometime next week but plans changed,” I began, my tone laced with urgency. “She was discharged suddenly and Dominic had promised to come get her by next tomorrow.”
“Really? How did you know that? That's not true. I went through her file myself before I got back,” my tone slightly spiked.
“She texted Dominic to inform him she was discharged by Dr Chelsea, possibly at your shift or something, but not the problem. Claire, just listen,” I snapped, putting her concentration back in order. “I’m coming to the hospital tomorrow. I want you to make sure you’re the one handling everything about Ivy like we had said. No one else. Understood?”
There was a short pause. “Uhmm..
Okay, yeah,” she responded. “How about the IT guy?” she asked.
“Yeah, I have that under control. I'd reach out to him after I drop the call with you,” I responded.
“It's Alright, I'd see you by morning then. Goodnight.”
The call disconnected. I quickly called the IT guy informing him of the change in plans. He didn't have an option, not when I had him by the balls.
After the series of calls and everything was set, I shifted my attention back to Dominic. I took off his top and tossed it aside. Then I unbuckled his belt and pulled his pants halfway down, ruffling the bedsheets. When I was done, I stood there, hands on my hips, admiring my work.
“Now it looks like we had a crazy night,” I whispered with a small laugh.
I glanced at him again. His lips parted slightly as he breathed. His eyelashes trembled, but he didn’t wake.
After I was done, I hit the bed.
Morning came so quickly but before it was dawn, I had already freshened up, picked up my car keys and exited the house before then.
The drive to Portland Central Hospital took less than an hour. I had booked a hotel last night and it was just adjacent to the hospital. The front desk lady smiled at me as I checked in under a fake name, wearing a disguise.
After I had checked into my room, I dropped my purse on the table and walked straight to the window. From there, I could see the hospital entrance clearly.
People went in and out. Nurses in white uniforms, patients in wheelchairs, doctors hurrying through the glass doors. The sight made my chest tighten. Somewhere inside that building, she was waiting.
I texted Dominic, making it look real and unsuspecting.
“HEY HONEY, I JUST STEPPED OUT TO PICK UP SOME GROCERIES MYSELF. DON'T MISS ME MUCH, I WON'T TAKE LONG.
Three hours later, it was 10 a.m. My phone buzzed and it was Claire. I picked up
“I just got in,” she said. “Starting my shift now.”
“Good,” I replied. “Make sure the papers are ready. No one else should go near her file but you.”
“Jess…” she hesitated. “You’re not going to do something stupid, right?”
I smiled faintly, watching a nurse wheel a patient across the road. “Don’t worry, Claire. I just want to see her. Talk to her. That’s all. I'd be there in a sec.” I dropped the call.
Almost immediately, I got notified from the control room. “I'm in position Ma'am.” A small smile tugged my lip.
I opened the closet and pulled out the small bag I’d packed earlier. From it, I took out a wig; short, brown, with bangs that fell slightly over my eyes. I slipped it on, adjusted the straps, then put on a pair of glasses.
“Perfect,” I whispered. Picking up my purse and headed out.
I walked into the hospital, keeping my head low. The receptionist barely looked at me. I moved down the hallway, my hands tucked into my jacket pocket.
Claire’s text came through as I approached the elevator.
Room 204. Two turns by you left and one right. Third door. That way, you'd avoid the Mr. Braun's security men.
My lips curled into a small smile. “He even gave her security? How nice!” I murmured, following her direction.
Room 204. There it was. I stopped in front of it, then took a deep breath in and out to steady my countenance. Then I turned the door handle and stepped inside.
She lifted her head to meet my gaze. I smiled back at her before shutting the door gently behind me.
“Hello, Miss Ivy,” I said, my voice calm, almost sweet as I stepped in.
As if she sensed I was going to be her nightmare, her brows furrowed as she set her phone aside.
“Who are you?” She asked.
