CHAPTER 039
CHAPTER 039
JESSICA'S POV
My heart curled with jealousy with the manner at which Dominic stared down at the girl on wheels. The smile on his face. He even wheeled her himself! My nose flared with envy. My finger wrapped the stirring so tight my knuckle turned white. My body etched to tear down my car door and matched to where they stood.
On second thought, that would have been a waste of strength. I only came down to confirm truly that Dominic was cheating on me with some other girl while I waited on Claire to get me information on who she is and on what account she was admitted, also possibly why my fiancé has been visiting her.
“What?” I batted my eyelid, leaning closer to my rolled up, tinted window. The warm breath from my nostrils fogged the glass.“Is that not a present he got her?” My eyes widened. She peeled the foil away like a child at Christmas, her mouth stretching into the widest grin.
“A phone?” My blood boiled, hissing in my ears. “You sack of shit,” I spat under my breath, trembling with rage. “You gave her a goddamn phone?” I spat. “This bitch thinks she can come from nowhere and glide into my space,” my jaw clenched as I spoke.
I was about to push the door open when a sports car zoomed across, its tires screeching at a sharp bend. The panic on Dominic's face told me danger loomed, I stayed back. While he wheeled the bitch back into the reception, he snapped in my direction.
“Shit!” I docked out of impulse, forgetting my glasses were tinted, so he couldn't see me. After a while I sat back up and he was gone.
While I sat back boiling in my mind, my phone chimed multiple times with notifications popping in simultaneously. Finally, it was the information I needed from Claire about this freaking gold digger.
I swiped through my phone, scanning through each line. My brows furrowed at each line that got me. “Hmm! “Ivy…” I whispered the name like it was poison on my tongue.
Scrolling down, my brows furrowed. “Amnesia!” My lips curled. “Of course. How convenient. I bet when I'm done she wouldn't have a brain to start with,” I scoffed, jumping over to the next slide.
My heart stopped at the sight of the report in the next slide. No! Perhaps I didn't read right. I swiped down for the previous report. Read through each line carefully to see if I missed a point. But there was nothing left out. I scrolled up again, re-reading the lines, my eyes slowly became glossy.
“I knew it.” My voice broke, a sob forcing its way through my throat. “I knew Dominic was hiding something. Ignoring me, canceling our plans, making excuses…” My face crumpled as I whispered to myself, “All because of this… this cheap slut.” I punched my steering so hard my knuckles bruised red, hugging my stomach as if it might keep me from splitting apart.
I wasn’t crying because I loved him. I wasn’t even sure I did anymore. But I needed him. Without him, my future crumbled. Without him, the inheritance I had been promised would vanish. Without him, I would be reduced to a nobody because my dad is such a disciplinarian. And she? she wants to clearly take that away from me.
My sobs grew harder, ragged breaths tearing through my throat until I couldn’t breathe. In desperation, I unlocked my phone and hit the speed dial. It rang.
“Hello Jess! It's been a minute, baby. What's been going on?” My mum responded almost immediately, as though she was anticipating my call.
“M…Mum?” My voice broke.
“My goodness, baby! What's the matter? Why are you crying? Don’t tell it’s that nitwit, Dominic!” Excitement left her tone.
For a couple of seconds, I couldn't construct a word. My heart shattered into bits—not because I was head over heels with Dominic or perhaps felt betrayed, but because my dad had sworn not to have me inherit any of his property if I was not going to be level headed and get married. to him or else I'd be cut off from the family inheritance.
“Mum, his mistress is five months pregnant! He's been having an affair!” I continued crying.
“My goodness! How dare he? I always knew he was not to be trusted but your dad…your dad is damn blind to see it!” She snarled. “I wouldn't be surprised if he used a spell on your father!” She continued venting her anger.
“What do I do mum?” I queried, tearing a piece of tissue paper from the pack on my car’s dashboard—blowing mucus in it.
“You need to calm down Jess, crying and wailing won't sort this out. You can't even tell your dad about this..”
“Hello no, mum! That would be me basically shooting myself in the leg. I… I can't do that!” I quickly brushed her off.
“Okay…let's get this straight. Where are you currently?” She asked.
“I'm currently in Portland. At Portland's central hospital,” I sniffled.
“Okay, great! Have you seen him or the girl in particular? Just to confirm the information you have.”
“Yes mum. I did. He even got the bitch a phone!” My chest puffed in anger.
“It's okay baby, you need to take your mind off that and think of something much better like taking her off the equation,” her cold tone sent chills through my body.
“Off the equation?” My tears suddenly dried off. “What do you mean by equation?” My brows furrowed. “Mum, the last time I heard that word being used was in a movie, and someone died! So what are you trying to insinuate here?
“Jeezzzz..come off it! You need to stop seeing these mafian and thug movies you like watching,” she retorted. A small smile curled at my lip. “All I'm saying is this, you need to make her know you own Dominic. Bark her out of your domain. Own your space and watch her scurry away like some scared puppy with her tail tucked behind her legs.”
Hmmm. While my mum spoke, I was busy picturing everything in my head. How scared she was going to look when I finally confront her, towering over her on the wheel.
“What would I have done without you mum? You always have your way of pushing me into manifesting my full potential. I think I already know how best to handle this,” I responded with a crooked smile.
“That's my girl! Now go get your man!” She cheered , making my cheeks burn.
“Thanks mum, I'd talk to you later,” I said, ending the call.
I took a look at myself in the mirror, pulling out my compact powder and dabbing some of it under my eye to conceal my teary eye bags. I glided my lipgloss over my lip, smearing it properly over the mirror before turning on the ignition.
“Let's see how well you play this game. Perhaps, how long you're gonna withstand the heat from me, Ivy!” My jaw clenched as I drove off.
